Insurance? He’s dressed in something not far off school uniform. I think he resembles his mum and maternal grandfather. Lovely picture of a sweet kid.

Quite. A voice of reason. Some people enjoy being unpleasant about children.

Oh no! Did the pic not appear?

You have to wait to check that the pic has loaded before you press post. It’s happened to me a few times 😂😂

Edward VIII as a boy

Happy birthday George
MaisieMacabe · 22/07/2024 11:46

Sweet! I love the sailor top.

Edward VIII

Happy birthday George
Uricon2 · 22/07/2024 11:54

I really think he looks like William in this one!

AzureAnt · 22/07/2024 11:54

MaisieMacabe · 22/07/2024 11:39

Perhaps he ought to wear street clothing with large logos on and have a McDonald's haircut.

He would probably like to but as the future King it wouldn't be a good look 🤣🤣

Some people just want to pick. They wouldn't be happy with anything! 😉

Arconialiving · 22/07/2024 11:56

He looks lovely - happy Birthday!

PrettyFlyforaMaiTai · 22/07/2024 12:02

It’s a lovely photo, he’s a handsome lad. He really looks like his dad (and Diana).

I can’t believe he’s 11 years old, I remember the day he was born as it was the week I first started work and the office were taking bets on names. Crazy how time flies!

PrincessMee · 22/07/2024 12:04

CoffeeCantata · 22/07/2024 11:37

I don't agree that it makes him look 'like a 40-year old man'.

Of course, it's an official portrait with posterity in mind - so not a snap of him playing on his X box, which I'm sure he does do.

It's very (what the French would call) Bon Chic, Bon Genre - and what it reminds me of is those ads of Patek Philippe watches that you sometimes see in posh magazines - where an impossibly chic mother or father, dressing exquisite, classic, understated clothes which have cost an arm and a leg, are seen with a similarly dressed mini-me son or daughter. All in tasteful monochrome, too.

This is why I love the RF - I don't want it to be TOO relatable and mundane!

Great comparison!

salem4cuddles · 22/07/2024 12:16

Lovely photo

Mylovelygreendress · 22/07/2024 12:30

I did hesitate before posting the photo as I guessed there would be some snide comments about an 11 year old boy .
Some posters never disappoint.

It still surprises me that adults would be nasty about an 11 year old child

MaisieMacabe · 22/07/2024 12:32

It's sadly predictable, but still uncalled for and nasty.
Thanks for posting anyway, @Mylovelygreendress , no doubt more snide and sarcastic put downs about an 11 year old boy will appear. Some people like an easy target.

Great comparison!

Unfortunately l, when I lived in France there was a different version of what the acronym BCBG stood for 😂😂. Nothing to do with how George looks, just an aside 😂

I’m glad KP has continued to post these pictures on their SM and left the press to lift them from there.

You and me both, Mymilkshake; the professionals must be gnashing but it really is a sensible thing to do

Besides, whether Catherine or someone else takes them they're pretty good

Jellytotsandwinegums · 22/07/2024 12:59

I don't think he's on Mumsnet much, might not see your birthday greetings OP.

Do you think that was her aim? Maybe she just wanted to start a nice thread.

BemusedAmerican · 22/07/2024 13:34

@CoffeeCantata Both Edward VIII and George VI had those high, to me broad, cheekbones. I see the cheekbones in young George, his mouth looks like William, and the lower face looks Middleton to me.

I'll be interested in seeing how he looks when he is an adult.

Indeed but I knew there would be some sneering comments . I don’t u derstsnd why some posters feel the need to be snarky about a child.

George is growing up & into his looks, I think he's likely to be very handsome.

Male-pattern baldness comes from the maternal side, doesn't it? So he's unlikely to lose his hair. Mind you, I think William's baldness is starting to suit him now that he's keeping his hair very short. I have seen him in person at an event and he's a very attractive man - especially when looking serious.

Also, it's ironic that they sneer because George isn't wearing clothes they approve of. That would be forcing him into another kind of 'tribal uniform'.

I know formality is disappearing from society and in some ways, that's good - but don't they get the concept of a formal, official portrait?

I'm sure George gets to wear his comfy clothes most of the time...

JADS · 22/07/2024 15:30

Happy Birthday George. I think it's a good idea to have official smart pictures, a bit like the photos my parents liked to have of my kids in their school uniforms. In reality, my children are happiest in a lurid coloured hoodie or football kit. The separation for the Royal children works well.

I definitely don't see the resemblance to Edward VIII. I'm not sure who he looks like.

wordler · 22/07/2024 17:33

For those disapproving of the blazer - it seems to be Kate’s plan to vary the clothes, poses and backgrounds to get a bit of variety over the years. He was in a footy jersey for his sixth birthday. I remember loads of people complaining that was too casual.

Happy birthday George
