A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

Milkshake
I can see why Harry is happier at Invictus than anywhere else, because it’s the one place where the model of his old life seems to still apply.

I think this is a really perceptive point. Yes, it's like the things he was brought up to do and he's great with the people. But he really needs to watch the way things are going because I get the impression there is serious discontent among the veterans.

Someone mentioned 'not blaming the woman' with regard to what's going wrong with Invictus, but I don't think the problem arises from Meghan's gender or her being Harry's wife - it's definitely her personality that's driving the change which is making some people uneasy. Personally I think she should butt out and focus on her own projects and charities, and leave Invictus to Harry. I think many veterans see her as irrelevant at best (what's she doing here?) or attention-seeking and mercenary at worst.

I don't know how the conversation has gone in Montecito - whether Harry was desperate to involve her, or whether she insisted on tagging along, but it isn't working. The RF don't do everything together - each person has their own patronages and projects and partners don't always tag along to these events.

That was me, @CoffeeCantata, and you're quite right about it being personality rather than gender that's involved here. Trouble is, it still sounds like "blaming the woman" if we're not careful and I wanted to avoid that

I had to smile about "whether Harry was desperate to involve her, or whether she insisted on tagging along" though; obviously we can't know that, but I hardly dare imagine what would happen if he tried to stop her Confused

It really feels like it's crying out for someone to do an exposé on the Invictus Games. I'd love to get a look at the commercials regarding Harry and Meghan.

If it was found to be that they were taking appearance fees that would really be beyond the pale. I suspect they're not, but as others have commented, the expenses would be very interesting to see.

Have to say also that I find this narrative of Harry doing "so much" for Invictus laughable. What has he ever done beyond giving it profile - which I appreciate is valuable for the charity - or it was in the past - but it's not exactly work is it? Turning up to a few photo opportunities and meet and greets doesn't enable you to claim you've really put in hard graft that you should be applauded for.

Also, can the Invictus Games be called a success as a movement if they are so dependent on Harry's presence? Surely after 10 years, as an international games heavily funded by hosting countries (and therefore taxpayers) they should be flourishing irrespective of royal (or former royal) endorsements and influence, and run like a properly regulated and accountable non profit? Obviously as one of the founding parties he will always have a place of importance; but the games (or at least the perception) seems to have gone backwards towards Harry being the only thing about it drawing in interest. And that interest is not entirely positive.

Nigeria wasn't even about the Sussexes in the end - it became all about her 43% Nigerian heritage.

And getting scammed into accepting freebies from a wanted fraudster in the US, being forever linked to him by his use of their meeting for his own self promotion. Meghan accepting a ‘Royal’ title from an ex jailbird.

Alll in the supposed name of Invictus ……. you really couldn’t make it up.

DelectableMe · 18/07/2024 17:51

That whole Nigerian quasi royal tour was entertaining, though. Particularly some of Meghan's clothing choices!

"Global Harry" 😂
"Todger Harry", surely?

I know 😂, I can think of more appropriate terms to link with his name!

Mymilkshakebringsallthepapstomycar · 18/07/2024 18:09

Globule Harry?
Gobby Harry?
Golum Harry?

MummyJ12 · 18/07/2024 18:11

Global Harry is thriving 👍 good to know. Can you tell him when you see him? It might save him in litigation fees. Just that, it doesn’t look good from where most of us are standing?
It sounds more like a manifestation mantra.

Are you quite ok? The level of hero worship is quite disturbing, particular for someone who doesn't deserve it?

I should imagine that would very much depend if she kept her handbag shut or not.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Today 15:40

Oh sorry, Puzzled - I did try to find the post but failed.

Yes, I agree it's something to avoid usually, but in this case I think Meghan's personality - and her actual involvement in Invictus - is clearly the problem. And it did make me think about the RF - each partner tends to have their own projects and they don't tag along clinging to each other to the other one's charity/opening/fundraiser etc.

I watched Meghan's speech at the Canadian Invictus event and it was excruciating. She clearly thought she was top of the bill, and that everyone had been waiting for her arrival with bated breath. You can hear the mutterings from the baffled veterans as she blathers on. Harry really needs to have a word, but I wouldn't like to be him when he does....crockery will smash, i should think.

DelectableMe · 18/07/2024 19:26

She has to tag along and hold his hand. It would be good if she could find something positive to do. Excluding jam.

I'm not so sure they were "scammed". I think they are i to anything-for-a-paycheck-and-a-headline territory now.

DelectableMe · 18/07/2024 19:30

It was a Meal Deal kind of arrangement, surely?

Not sure how that counts as being scammed Thedom?
After all they could have done their research into the fraudster before committing, and if the appeal of being feted counted more than caution that's on them - especially when this concerned a country where the corruption stats are truly appalling
