A fitting endorsement from Fred Hargreaves OBE who on X wrote, “As ever, a genuine and heart-felt speech from the Duke of Sussex - the driving force and passion behind the #InvictusGames. So good to see this Award, and share the stage with Elizabeth, Kirsty and Israel.”

From the Royal Website, how the ‘driving force’ - Harry - brought Invictus into being:

https://www.royal.uk/invictus-games

Positive Harry posts have been flooding X. Haters were out too. Some negatively posting in a quasi-forensic manner. No ‘gotcha’ revelations, however, nor tens of thousands of likes which the repost of Harry’s speech on ESPN by the knowledgeable Robert Griffin III now has. In less than 2 days 51+K likes and still rising.

I also checked out some (too many) #Sussexsquad posters. It revealed teachers, veterans, different nationalities, colours, creeds, nurses, retired folk etc etc. Thus I formed a completely different understanding about the use of the hashtag to support the Sussex family. There were also very strange users of the hashtag too. The hashtag was additionally utilised to send the message out on X to put the anti-Harry and Meghan posters or ‘derangers’, as they are often called, on mute and not to engage. Quite a restrained and civil position to promote and many did just that. Invictus awareness was successfully brought to those who had never heard of the international fraternity of veterans with disabilities and injuries by this hashtag alone.

Watching the videos on X I saw Harry speak with sincerity and humility under pressure. His words, “The truth is, I stand here not as Prince Harry, Pat Tillman Award recipient, but rather a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and the thousands of veterans and service personnel from over 20 nations who have made the Invictus Games a reality. This award belongs to them. Not to me.”

Harry has now been awarded, by a very diverse online presence, a new respect. And I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

I am so glad I went on my very new X twitter account for I was disgusted with the Daily Mail’s use of Pat Tillman’s mother to denigrate Prince Harry as it was totally uncalled for. Call it for what it was - a hit piece of journalism designed to create a mini storm online. We know nothing about the context of how they obtained words supposedly said by Pat’s mother about Harrry. I was aghast too at how Pat’s widow has also been treated by some online posters. Her foundation may not be perfect but she does more than anyone to honour him. Pat’s mother also did not go on any mainstream American media either where her complaints would have been listened to and would have provided the much needed context for the hate motivated article by a newspaper under the spotlight for its nefarious journalism and click bait articles about Harry.

Harry’s response was beautiful. The way Harry acknowledged Pat’s mother went further than him being a royal. It was a standout out moment of what being human is all about. I do believe he’s also a jolly good fellow…and so say many, many, many of us. 😊💙

More attacks on the Wales children. Nice.

the only real soldier in the royal family
Not Prince Philip?

Andrew? He’s a horrible human being, but his record in the Falklands is undeniable.

Gorgonemilezola · 16/07/2024 17:32

I thought Harry had only been an ambassador for Scotty's Little Soldiers since about June - he's not done a great deal with them, has he?

It is! He is a living legend too. 💪

Since the ESPY farce, I've been thinking a lot about H & M. I'm not a fan, and that's understating things.

When Meghan sends out pots of jam and lemons, I think it's lame but harmless. When she seal-claps and pushes herself front and centre at a charity polo match, it's pathetic but ultimately harmless.

But what she and Harry are doing to Invictus really upsets me. Their behaviour shows disprespect for the disabled veterans to whom it means so much - and has been a lifeline. Oh God - where to start! But I really feel depressed by what's happening.

The over-involvement of Meghan when it's Harry's show, if anyone's (I realise it was given to him, not founded by him).

Her marching in front of the veterans, grinning.

The ugly controversy over the Pat Tillman award, the trolling of Pat's mother, the tactic of veterans accompanying H on to the stage to shield him from booing, the utter disrespect and rudeness of their leaving early as they did.
And the MN 'positive' thread during the IG event in Canada earlier this year which made the whole thing about Meghan's clothes and jewellery. Ugh - utterly crass.

I've seen Sussex supporters on this thread trying to whitewash what happened at the recent award ceremony, and I think they're heartless to ignore the growing controversy over what H & M are doing to Invictus. The people who matter are not happy, and that should not be ignored. Trying to portray it as people 'being mean about H & M' is a pathetic attempt to trivialise an important issue.

And in the meanwhile, the other charity Harry is associated with - African Parks - is never mentioned.

Uricon2 · 16/07/2024 17:43

Prince Philip was a real soldier (well, sailor) ditto Prince Andrew, who had quite a long career. The current Duke of Kent did 20 years in the Army, including as part of a UN Peacekeeping Force. Prince Michael of Kent did around 18, retiring with the rank of Major.

Hypebole like "the only real soldier" doesn't add any support to Harry as it is patently and provably untrue.

skullbabe · 16/07/2024 17:46

The metrics were the first thing I investigated after going on X. This was because after a long absence

It has been certainly has been interesting in terms of impressions on social media. I'm really pleased, as you can definitely see outside of royalist social media, the overall opinion of the Invictus Games has been overwhemingly positive inspite of the concerted effort to downgrade the games. This can only be positive step for the Invictus community and the games.

I've been consistent about not wanting any child in the public eye to necessarily be available/so public, but I think that the Wales' are doing a really good job with the children within the constraints of having a public role. I don't think we see them that often. I think that it would be difficult for the Sussex children - if they were to attend the ESPYS like Alexis or the polo like Alba - this would open up a whole other can of worms - all the people wanting to see them will turn around and say things like..... similar things that have been said on this thread. Anyway I will return to my little enclave. See you on the later Invictus threads and if you're at all interested more in general chat about Sussex news - see you on the out and about threads.

Let’s not forget that he earned the nickname “Bunker Harry”, slept through an attack on his enclave and was allowed to leave the barracks during routine drug testing. And two men died defending their enclave while Harry was whisked away by the SAS. And he selected his father’s car for target practice on an exercise. Nice.

Still tumbleweeds and the usual politician style dodging of valid questions on here.
The delusional mud slinging is lazy and goady and I’m (very much like MNHQ) fed up with it and also with the nastiness. I know I’m not on my own with these thoughts.

Like the ongoing refusal to acknowledge and discuss African Parks @Rhaidimiddim.

@TallerSally there's been so much going on with Scotty's - really good to see.

I particularly like that it acknowledges the impact military loss has on the children who get left behind, not only on the vets.

Meghan and Harry have a real knack for shining light onto less obvious causes which are as worthy of support as others, yet are often overlooked or overshadowed.

Hats off to them for their good philanthropy, and to the folks like the CEO of SLS whose story was told on the BBC when they got the exclusive of Harry’s play date there a few months ago.

Runnerinthenight · 16/07/2024 18:13

DelectableMe · 16/07/2024 17:02

It's really very strange.
Do you think some people are just ultra royalists, and put titled people on a pedestal, no questions? I can't explain it otherwise.
Neither Harry nor Meghan have any kind of talent, ability, creativity, work ethic or integrity.
The worship of them is baffling.

But they don't feel the same about the rest of the RF. Why M & H?!!

@ConstantGarden1 really encouraged by impressions the ESPYs have had (looking a twitter metrics and the viewing numbers). Really positive for Invictus too - the lead in tape really seems to have shifted some people's thoughts about it. Which can only be a positive for the games.

Thank for the update, @skullbabe , lovin’ it!

A new audience for Invictus who are able to, as it were, walk and chew gum at the same time, ie focus on Harry and the Invictus team’s support for veterans and their fams without getting sucked into the RF psychodrama…

That ESPY Invictus video was gold! 🥇

Gorgonemilezola · 16/07/2024 18:18

I've just had a look at Invictus' social media. The positive comments actually read more like a Sussex Squad incantation than being genuinely positive about Invictus. I mean:
'Congrats to the Only founder of the Invictus Games'
Lots of mentions of Diana for some reason Hmm
And commenters with names like 'dukeandduchesdofsussexdaily'
'suxessquad page'
'SussexSpartanMegHive'
Lots of comments disagreeing with the award too.

Me too. 😊 The metrics were the first thing I investigated after going on X. This was because after a long absence (due to the fighting between derangers and some people who use the squad hashtag) I saw that my feed was blowing up with positivity. It was a joy to see Harry recognised for Invictus. The only real soldier in the Royal Family who despite all his wealth continues to highlight his many causes. He is also now a global ambassador for Scottys since November last year. He has kept solid with the military communities and veterans all over the world. He truly is a global citizen, in demand and raising the profile of Invictus. Bless him. He had a rough time of it but is shining through it all. A lovely guy and has a beautiful family. I also admire how they do not bring out the kids every 5 minutes to boost themselves. That said I look forward to seeing them one day joining their parents at many events. That will be special.

Nah, they won't roll the kids out because that would take attention off Mememe!

How do you know he has a "beautiful family" because we don't see them?! I personally think it's a bit odd that they never include them in anything.

Harry - "the only real soldier in the royal family"??? You'd better go back and do some more investigating!

So I had a little more time today - I was wondering why Elizabeth Marks' introduction to Harry seemed so heartfelt. So I looked it up -bless her she's definitely an Invictus (and Paralympics) alum - she was unwell at one of the games and gave her gold medal to Harry to present to Papworth for saving her life and Harry presented her with the Soldier of the Year award earlier this year and she's a Pat Tillman past award recipient as well for her Invictus/Paralympics acheivements. I wish, though, that Israel Del Toro had spoken more - he also a past award recipient for his Invictus achievements.

It’s definitely nice to see Invictus participants speaking up in support of a) Invictus and b) Harry, as they VERY often do but get deliberately ignored by the M&H-hating media.

Every now and then the likes of the Daily Fail, after trying as hard as they can and no doubt offering pots of cash, succeed in finding one disgruntled Invictus participant out of the hundreds and, in their desperation to besmirch Invictus and Harry, splash that all over their front pages.

But the fact that that’s soooooo rare, considering the hundreds of IG participants, is clearly a testament to the positive impact Harry and Invictus are having on the vets and their families.

Well done Invictus! 🥇🥇🥇
