No reason why she should tell anyone what happened. Incidentally, horsey people often wear hats when not riding but doing anything where getting kicked is a possibility.

DelectableMe · 27/06/2024 07:33

The late Queen did that because she didn't want to ruin her hair in case she had to talk to the nation, or meet with a PM at short notice.
We may not understand this, especially nowadays with the "safety first" mantra, but I think it's an interesting insight into her behaviour.

DelectableMe · 27/06/2024 07:35

Anne must be a careful sort of person though; she was a champion Three Day Eventer, also a medal winning Olympic equestrian.
Think of how rigorous that was - and how dangerous. She's almost 74 and hasn't really had that many injuries, considering.

I don’t think Anne’s pr team would be stupid enough to lie in that way @CurlewKate . I mean these are people who are highly trained in public relations, if it came out her reputation would be in tatters.

Sorry @ed the wrong poster, was meant to be @TheUsualChaos .
Eventers are not known for their cautioun. They ride unpredictable beasts round huge solid courses of jumps. In Anne’s day there were no pins to break and save you if you made a mistake either.

The Queen and Princess Anne both regularly rode without a helmet. I suspect she has had a fall whilst not wearing a helmet but the RF do not want that particular detail to be public knowledge. I hope she recovers well and is back in the saddle soon.

I doubt this.

Her staff may well want to obfuscate if there are details they do not want public, but are unlikely to tell a direct lie, and they have said that she was walking at the time and that injuries are consistent with contact with a horse's legs/feet. If she'd been riding they would have said that, or said nothing about the circs (based on her being unable to remember)

It’s also more likely that she startled a horse if she was on foot. She may have tried to remove something from its coat, for example, and it startled. Who knows 🤷‍♀️. But it’s not that unusual to be injured by a horse when you are not actually on it’s back or falling from it’s back

@DelectableMe "The late Queen did that because she didn't want to ruin her hair in case she had to talk to the nation, or meet with a PM at short notice. "

Really? Seems unlikely, considering that she wouldn't do either of those things in jhodpurs, boots and no makeup! Far more likely that she belonged to a stubborn, no hat generation. I've known plenty of them in my time!

ARichtGoodDram · 27/06/2024 08:18

The late Queen never wore a riding hat. Even as a child she never did (neither did Margaret).

I think the hair thing is just one reason why she didn’t relent in later years, but she was just used to no hat as that’s how she was taught

I agree smilesy

Nor really my domain but it is that of my sibling. You get near a big beast and accidents can happen.

They said she was out walking. That should be taken as the case.

But some can’t help putting their own take on it and inventing their own story/chain of events.

Agreed. If she had received injuries from a cow when out walking for example, no one would have suggested that she must have been riding it. Oh wait….😂😂

CurlewKate · 27/06/2024 09:34

I think this is more about people who know about horses and horsy people than people who know about the royal family!

I know plenty about horses. I just don’t see a need to assume something different happened to what we were told every time the RF say anything

edited to correct repetition

ARichtGoodDram · 27/06/2024 09:55

There’s no chance after all the speculation about Catherine and the King that they’re going to make up an outright lie imo.

Given they’ve specifically said she was out walking there’s no reason to doubt that.

HadMeABlast · 27/06/2024 09:55

Too used to another’s lies version of the turn of events.

Sometimes it just is what they say it is.

Rather than a Hollyoaks style recollection for the drama.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 27/06/2024 10:37

There's nothing that some people won't turn into a conspiracy. How often on this site (and not just this one) do you read people saying that 'we're not getting the whole story' and there's 'more to it?' I assume it fills some need in otherwise empty lives.

PrincessMee · 27/06/2024 10:45

Is this another example of William's bad temper and he has now had a go at Anne? 🙄 Is this to cover the fact she is having a Brazilian butt lift?

Iwasafool · 27/06/2024 11:05

ARichtGoodDram · 26/06/2024 16:31

I think at 9 1/2 be a bit miffed that your new brother bumped you down the line.

Though by 14 with Edward she might have been quite pleased.

I think in some ways she has the best gig. As the Queen’s only daughter she got a good title when she was given the Princess Royal title. You get a good pick of charities and patronages. You get good access to the royal jewellery box. But being that bit further down you can live at Gatcombe and bring up your children in a luxurious lifestyle without the same restrictions as your elder brother, less scrutiny than any of the royal wives really and your children have much less pressure than your nephew (and much less stick than your nieces).

I think if you have to be royal then Anne’s spot is a good one.

Edited

I think most 9 and a half year olds with a new baby sibling feels like they have gone down in the list of priorities as it is basically true.

I think if we started a list of "People Least Likely To Undergo A BBL" Anne would be very, very near the top!😂

I dunno. It would be good padding on a saddle as she gets older. That would fit with her “practical” ethos 😂😂😂

Really? That's what her cousin, and dear friend, Margaret Rhodes, said.
So, I would think she's a valid source.

If it was enough of an emergency, it wouldn't matter what she was wearing, surely? but her hair was part of HM's image and she'd want it just right at all times.

She always had a black dress, stockings and shoes ready. Also another colour. So it would be a quick change and comb though, I'm guessing, as opposed to sitting in for any time the hairdressing chair.

DelectableMe · 27/06/2024 16:25

Sorry, @MrsDanversGlidesAgain I was agreeing with your point about the hair!

diddl · 27/06/2024 16:33

To me the hair thing sounds more of a joke that HM would have said in answer as to why she didn't wear a helmet.

Not as if a hairdresser couldn't be found quickly if necessary I wouldn't have thought!

DelectableMe · 27/06/2024 16:36

Well, we know she had a very good sense of humour!
