If you keep on topic @PracticallyYesterday then perhaps people won’t think you’ve wandered onto the wrong thread. (Hint, stop banging on about tax!) 😂

It was AliceOlive who introduced the topic of tax, I was simply responding to their point.

Mylovelygreendress · 19/06/2024 17:27

Maybe those who don’t like/ approve of the RF could request a Republic Board ?

You said you paid for the camera used to take the photograph we are discussing, amongst every other cost. Did you mean you went out and purchased it for them?

This has been suggested before. Good idea, IMO. Let us uneducated peasants on here remain in ignorance of how we're being 'taken for a ride.'

The topic is neutral - 'The Royal Family'. Your suggestion is akin to saying that only people who support the present government should post on the 'Politics' topic.

Why don't you request a new board called 'Fans of the Royal Family' if you want to avoid conversation with republicans?

AliceOlive · 19/06/2024 17:44

Many republicans post here, not all get upset about a nice family photo. Not all despise the RF.

wordler · 19/06/2024 17:47

I love chatting with republicans as I’m very open to moving from constitutional monarchy to republic - and interested in how a UK republic would work etc.

But I respect and like a lot of the way our constitutional monarchy works too.

It’s not really conversation when certain posters just make wild and often inaccurate statements about the current system and the people within it.

Mylovelygreendress · 19/06/2024 14:23

It never fails to amaze me the number of people who come onto the RF board to say how much they dislike and disagree with the RF .
Why bother ? Obviously it’s up to individuals what they contribute to but i can’t imagine going into a board about horses ( for example) and say that I dislike horses and can’t imagine why anyone likes them.

I don't think that analogy stack up.

With horses, dogs, or any other interest or characteristic, it's reasonable to assume that people's interest is going to be positive.

But the Royal Family matters differently - we are a monarchy and the king is head of state to us all. So I think all POVs are ok.

(But do prefer it when they are at least tangentially related to the topic of any particular thread, and don't include bingo card phrases)

It is not a family photo. If it was a family photo - shared only with friends and family - it would be fine for its purpose. If a friend showed me a similarly posed holiday snap, I'd think it was quite nice. The whole 'family photo' thing is part of the illusion the Royals are trying to create - to draw in supporters to keep the next generation in unearned luxury, and the next, and the next. It's sickening.

It's a publicity shot and as such it should at the very least not have obvious flaws such as the background being askew and someone's head being obscured, even if you accept that them having their backs to the 'audience' is a matter of personal taste.

AliceOlive · 19/06/2024 17:55

It’s a casual family photo that they shared. I just can’t understand getting worked up about it.

Me too. I love reading all the opinions about it. I have no say in the matter. It’s interesting as an outsider.

It's not really the photo itself, although it's a poor photo - photos of the backs of people's heads might be OK in a family 'memories' context but unless they have supporting artistic and technical merit, shouldn't make it beyond that context.

I just despair when people keep fawning over the royals, for no reason at all. Catherine takes a snapshot into which clearly little effort has been put, and people fall over themselves to gush over it. We'll never rid ourselves of the drain that is the royal family while people think like this.

Baital · 19/06/2024 18:10

And if they had released a photo from a professional photographer, carefully posed, there wouldbe people complaining about that (so stiff, artificial, how much of our taxes wasted on a photoshoot etc etc)

Assuming they were after something casual, a professional photographer would have the skill to make to look not stiff, artificial and posed. I imagine they would have no difficulty getting a professional photographer to do it for free, as long as s/he was credited.

And then would be - rightly in my view - criticised for exploiting them 🤔

I think a slightly wonky family snap is more in the spirit of father's day

If that one was taken by a professional, Harry and Meghan should ask for their money back - what's going on in the top left hand corner? Another photo best kept for the family album, in my opinion.

I haven’t seen any gushing though. Of course you are entitled to your despair. But to despair because others are not despairing over a sweet family snap is hard to comprehend. This thread is a strange place to look for consolation.

1.6M liked it on instagram so I think you are probably correct about your chances of getting rid of them.

It's getting to 'I started screaming in the Sistine Chapel' levels the last couple of days. Gotta wonder how some people cope with life if a family pic triggers this much anguish and criticism.

PracticallyYesterday · 19/06/2024 18:39

It would be strange indeed if a family picture triggered strong reactions. I've not been privy to any of the Waleses' family pictures, so I can't comment.

I have better things to despair about than a nice picture taken with minimal intrusion to the children pictured.

You may want rid of the RF, as I said above, valid viewpoint, but plenty don't. Why should people think like you?
