Please point me to anything I have said that is mean-minded or spiteful.

If you read it again - I referenced mean minded comments over the 17 pages of this thread; not specifically aimed at you, altho this is the second time in about an hour when you've taken my posts to be personal to you.

As you're clearly spoiling for a fight and determined to get annoyed, I'm not engaging with you any further.

I agree. I’d love to be a net contributor as would my DH, but he has MS and is confined to a wheelchair and I am his carer as well as working part time. Claiming to be a net contributor comes across as smug to me

eta sorry for derail 😆

Edited

Flowers @smilesy fellow carer here.

I understand Republicanism as a valid belief, I really do. However, if anyone thinks the entire RF suddenly being teleported to Planet Posh and leaving behind every single thing they own would improve living standards for the people of this country, I'd say they were very naive.

SidekickSylvia · 19/06/2024 14:09

I'm amused that someone who earns enough to pay 40% tax is feeling sour because their £1.50 per year contribution isn't giving them value for money. If you think they're not good value then don't look too closely at where the rest of your tax goes; you'll be bloody furious.

Anyway, I think it's a nice photo. It demonstrates a close and loving relationship between them all.

AliceOlive · 19/06/2024 14:10

PracticallyYesterday · 19/06/2024 13:56

Well, are you wanting me to change my opinion because you think the Royal Family are good value for money and the photograph is a masterpiece? Or are you also expressing your own opinion, as I am.

No, I’m simply answering the complaint you addressed to me. I can’t see where anyone has prevented you from expressing your opinion.

If you're not aiming your comments at me, this would be clearer if you didn't include my posts in quotes/bold. However, I agree there's nothing to be gained by further engagement because we clearly have very different opinions on this topic, so I wish you a good afternoon.

YouJustDoYou · 19/06/2024 14:12

I think it's a lovely photo

BadPennyForeverTurningUp · 19/06/2024 14:18

Happily I’m no fool and am quite content having a Royal Family.

To the best of my knowledge I have not heard the RF saying they have taken any person for a fool.

One person here has suggested it though.

Oh. And I am ex forces. A carer. Someone who also takes tax payers money so I can provide a service that most have something to say about yet seem really reluctant to walk in my shoes for a bit.

Folk are entitled to their opinions. There is far worse wrong with this country than the RF. I’m assuming my taxes go on a lot of things I would happily opt out of.

But I don’t have the bitterness or the energy to argue with those, as said above, who are spoiling for a fight and dressing up their insults like they think we can’t see them.

Folk don’t like the photo then fine.

But as I’ve said above, imagine being so bitter that you feel you have to be negative about a photo, celebrating love, when it has cost you the sum amount of fuck all.

You do know that you don’t have to announce your departure ?

It never fails to amaze me the number of people who come onto the RF board to say how much they dislike and disagree with the RF .
Why bother ? Obviously it’s up to individuals what they contribute to but i can’t imagine going into a board about horses ( for example) and say that I dislike horses and can’t imagine why anyone likes them.

@Mylovelygreendress

I’m fond of those who announce departures. As well as those who close down arguments wishing people well.

It has such a comforting air of familiarity don’t you think?

I'm not departing, sorry to disappoint! I'm agreeing, at another poster's suggestion, not to engage further with that poster.

Ah, it would be a boring place though and I do think it’s the right one for the discussion.

It’s just odd to think everyone must and should have the same opinions. Even more so when it’s just a photo.

The woman who did the E2 impersonation died recently, and at about the same age (which I guess she'd have to be to pull off an impersonation). I've often wondered if she and HM ever came face to face.

When James Bond went into the Queen's office I thought it was that impersonation lady to begin with, and then it was, "Wow, it IS the Queen."

BadPennyForeverTurningUp · 19/06/2024 14:33

Air is such a precious resource. As is time.

Like most precious resources, I don’t tend to waste them if it can be helped.

It serves me well.

And just to add that the Waleses aren't funded by the taxpayer. The are funded by the Duchy of Cornwall (& were when Charles was POW and paid for their expenses).

(Most) civil servants and other state funded workers represent reasonable value for money. But the Royal represent appalling value for money when you consider what they receive versus what they actually do

And yet just by appearing at Trooping the Colour on Saturday, Katherine managed to make the event (with pictures of the pagentry, the crowds, the military etc) a top print and live news story globally - showcasing the UK and one of its USPs - its heritage - positively.

Try buying that kind of global coverage before you start whining that Royal family are appalling value for money.

Absolutely right. It was headline news all over the US--on all the morning shows, discussed even on the hard news, reported in every major news outlet, even reported on my local news. Charles, Camilla, Kate and William are global hyperstars in a way that I don't think people in the UK quite grasp. There is no amount of money that you can pay for that kind of promotion of Brand UK.

Pretty sure if you added up all the taxes any one of us pays minus the other benefits we receive, it didn’t fund diddly squat.

I doubt it. I pay 40% tax and don't receive a penny from the state. I have private healthcare, and I don't have children so I'm not benefiting from state educational provision.

Was this post meant for one of the VAT on school fees threads?!

They do get some money from the Sovereign Grant - but it’s only used for specific engagement expenses. So the money from the tax payer is only used if they are on an official engagement.

Which is why it’s silly adding up the work days of any royal individual and saying the tax payer is paying for them to sit at home.

The SG can also be reduced if there’s too much excess left at the end of the year. There’s a government department that audits the books to check what was spent on what.

As I said, I don't have children, so have no active part in the VAT on school fees argument. For the little it's worth, I agree with VAT on private school fees.

Lovely @PracticallyYesterday good for you. Just so you know, there’s loads of threads on it if you want to go and share your wisdom there instead, maybe a better place for you to echo chamber. Or start your own thread on tax, cost of the monarchy etc. This thread is for discussing a lovely family photo.

But why is that inherently a good thing? I don't particularly want to be associated with a 'Brand' that is built on the Royal Family, and I particularly deplore celebrity 'hyperstar' culture in whatever form it takes.
