I was worried that Catherine might not release a birthday photo of Louis this year what with what her diagnosis and the mothers’ day photo fiasco. But she has released an image on the Prince & Princess of Wales instagram page.

Happy 6th birthday Louis! Isn’t he a mini Michael Middleton?

Is the weather bad over there in England today then?

Maireas · 25/04/2024 05:58

I can only speak for my part of Yorkshire: bitter, artic winds, but the lashing rain has stopped.

No we had some rain in the morning but it was a nice sunny afternoon

MrsFinkelstein · 25/04/2024 08:22

I'm in Scotland - SW/Central belt - it's been lovely the last week.

Weather was pish the week before, and apparently will be pish again from this weekend onwards.

But this week has been lovely.

For all the UK is a tiny island compared to the US - our weather can vary hugely from region to region - and even within towns within the same region. Its like some small areas have their own micro climate.

That's why when the SS say "it's been raining in England blah blah", any Brit knows that's utter shite.

Paul Clark said on, I think, Good Morning Britain, that it was obviously a series of images. I think he said 4. Feel free to google.

Feel free also, to quote me "piling on" and shedding crocodile tears.

I'm in SE England and it's been sunny the last couple of days but cold. I'm getting bored of the rubbish weather.

CurlewKate · 25/04/2024 08:29

Paul Clark also said that there were obvious failures of scrutiny at several stages of the process.

Do you actually know what a composite picture is?

You're being picked up on for misuse of terminology, because the type of editing that the detailed description from the agencies shows it was a composite. Everyone knows it was edited, but that is not a synonym for making a composite. And to people who know this stuff, you are insisting on something that did not happen.

To the lay reader, it does look like a harmless synonym. But in general, and specifically when its been pointed out, accuracy keeps everything clearer.

At the end of the day though, and I keep asking this, what was the intention behind the photo. Was it meant to deceive or just show people in their best light at the time? No common sense seems to have been applied

Thedom · 25/04/2024 08:53

Here is what AP had to say, totally contradicts the idea of a composite image.

"The AP said there was no suggestion that the image was fake, but the agency retracted it because it didn’t meet its photo standards, which state that images must be accurate and not altered. The news organization said its editors determined after further inspection that the image showed an "inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte’s left hand with the sleeve of her sweater."

Minor editing, such as cropping and color adjustments, are acceptable when necessary for clear reproduction, but should "maintain the authentic nature of the photograph," the news organization wrote in a March 11 article explaining the decision.

"Changes in density, contrast, color and saturation levels that substantially alter the original scene are not acceptable," the story said. "Backgrounds should not be digitally blurred or eliminated by burning down or by aggressive toning. The removal of ‘red eye’ from photographs is not permissible."

Naming a celebrity photographer isn’t evidence that the photo was a composite @CurlewKate. Even if he did say this (he didn’t) it would simply be hearsay.
What he did say is that the Princess should be left alone rather than be hounded for some kind of “prove of life”, which was what was happening. Thanks mainly to the trolls and the Sussex Squad.

Another sweet, beautifully composed but entirely relatable family photo, taken with love by Charlotte's mother, like any of us would take a photo of our children.

ArcaneWireless · 02/05/2024 20:48

Also Scottish with a very, very late weather report.

One skimpy layer on today. And I’ve caught the sun.

My colleague much further north was in full tapsaff mode.

But he is a man. And his nipples are still where they are supposed to be.

And aye, the photo of Charlotte is charming. Milkshake said all that needed to be said.

MrsFinkelstein · 02/05/2024 21:29

Interesting that they've released the photo only via their IG account again.

Looks like this will be the standard going forward. Good, I agree with them, and the Photo Agencies will just have to reap what they've sowed.

Of course you're entitled to your opinion @Ilikeadrink14 - just as others are able to draw their own opinions about someone resurrecting an old thread to post quite uncalled for comments about a six year old.

Ilikeadrink14 · 16/06/2024 23:10

I didn’t resurrect this thread. Someone else did that just before me and that was what I was replying to. If you are going to tell people off, at least get your facts straight!

ArcaneWireless · 17/06/2024 00:11

I’ve clearly gone loop-de-fucking-loop for I can’t see what was ‘just before’ the post made yesterday.

Are posts getting scrubbed without a deletion message these days?

You did resurrect the thread yesterday at 12:43. The post before that was 2nd of May. Maybe you lived up to your username and forgot?

Who was that then as I don't see a post before yours?

myrtleWilson · 17/06/2024 05:47

Nope, you resurrected this thread @Ilikeadrink14 -my facts are perfectly straight thanks!
