Apols

I mistakenly mistook the headline re Harry that it was done and dusted ie usa citizen was guranteed,

Does anyone know approximately how long it will take to approve Harry's citizenship, please?

Harry's visa application is under review. If he is found to have lied on the application, he could be deported.

If he wants to become a US citizen, he must renounce his title and swear allegiance to the US. See Section B " Hereditary Titles". I really don't think he is willing to take those steps:

That's very interesting, @BemusedAmerican . He won't ever give up the titles.
Swear allegiance? Isn't this a man who criticised the First Amendment?
I think if you want to live permanently in another country you respect their laws and constitution and abide by cultural norms.

BemusedAmerican · 22/04/2024 10:15

Anderson Cooper even suggested that Harry give up the titles and Harry said that he did not see the point of doing so.
I really think he announced the domicile change on April 15th because that was the last day to file 2023 taxes. It was a tax move, in my humble opinion.

I cringed when I heard he said that. Not just the idea of opposing free speech, but going to someone else's country and criticising it.

A measure of his entitlement.

He was used to the Royal rota. The idea that anyone could write about him without palace permission was new to him. I think the problem is that he isn't very bright.

Polishedshoesalways · 22/04/2024 11:24

What if his application is refused?

OneHeartySnail · 22/04/2024 11:40

The Royal Rota doesn't prevent anyone from writing about the RF. It is just a way to make sure every official event is covered, but not swamped.

Accredited photographers/journalists take it turns to cover the RF's scheduled appointments. If the appointment suddenly becomes newsworthy for some reason the photos get shared with all the media outlets who could have attended, but didn't because it wasn't their turn.

At least, that was the way it worked 20 years ago when i worked in those sorts of events!

And when mags such as Hello were paying for exclusive photos, but it was also an officially scheduled Royal appointment, there were DAYS of discussion about what was the 'royal' bit, and therefore open to the Rota photographer, and what was the bit the Royal Personage then went on to attend in their personal capacity, which could be given to e.g. Hello exclusively...!

It's cultural colonisation.

He's just another privileged mid-range thinker who goes to another country and deigns to stay there and give it the benefit of Prince Harry's ideas, Prince Harry's values, and Prince Harry's ideals.

Rather than absorb and soak up, cultural colonisers give out, impose and demand.

OneHeartySnail · 22/04/2024 11:54

It's like all the cr*p about his 'affinity' for Africa (all of it?). It was only ever a luxurious colonial version of Africa, with a hot bath being run by 'simple natives' grateful for his largesse

MaturingCheeseball · 22/04/2024 12:09

Yes, methinks he wanted the White Mischief life - to live in debauched luxury with no scrutiny.

Yes, it was totally insensitive, tone-deaf and ignorant for Harry to criticise the US constitution. What a twit! He's hardly a world-class political scientist. But it's on a par with them both using their royal titles to insistently - what place to British royal or aristocratic titles have in the States?

It's similar to Meghan thinking she knew better how the RF should operate - like a bumptious intern telling everyone how to do things after one week in the job! They both needed to look, learn, take time and advice and then engage their brains but they are, of course, too arrogant and ignorant for that.

Goodness that article doesn’t hold back. Thank you for posting.

W0rkerBee · 23/04/2024 07:36

Uf!
"Coin-operated" and "selling jam without Jerusalem". Yikes. Nailed it.

Corinthiana · 23/04/2024 07:40

Good article. To paraphrase -
The USA values hard work and talent. Harry and Meghan have neither.
Ouch.

Thedom · 23/04/2024 07:57

@BemusedAmerican thanks for linking, pretty hard hitting and very apt.

Runnerinthenight · 23/04/2024 20:49

Pretty much nails things!

@DistinguishedSocialCommentator He isn't applying for citizenship. That is different from staying with a visa. Also the judge hasn't made a ruling yet. If the judge rules against Harry's visa then Biden will show that he is going against the US Court. People in the US don't like Harry. They will like him less if he gets open preferential treatment.

AutumnCrow · 24/04/2024 14:34

The current court case I think is about whether Harry's visa application and status can be made public under FoI, I think? The US is usually very pro-transparency, but on this occasion US government lawyers have argued that Harry's documents should stay private.

I presume Harry wants the privacy too, or he would have released them himself.

Just posting this from the Spectator.

"Coin operated B-list celebrity"! 😂

"Their penchant for creating distraction, chaos and controversy wherever they go is intolerable. Nor does America need yet another coin-operated B-list celebrity wading into politics."
