Great.
IMO, it will take many to that part of Scotland that may not have adventured that way and in turn, its a big help to local businesses of many types.

It is only for a month. And a maximum of 40 people a day. I would expect it to have sold out.

They are £100/150 per ticket which is a lot of money . Also , Balmoral is not the easiest place to reach so I think it’s impressive that so many people have bought the tickets given that we are constantly being told on MN that the RF are irrelevant and unpopular..

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 03/04/2024 20:08

Oh Christ! Not more toe curling, nausea inducing, fawning sycophancy

postcard · 03/04/2024 20:14

Great idea. I’ll come away from the tour thinking they’re just like us.

Seriously, why not. Plenty of tourists for this kind of thing.

DewinDwl · 03/04/2024 20:16

Charging for access and selling afternoon teas now. How crass.

I wonder how many are American tourists? Or under 50? Although I think its a good thing Charles has done this. He should do it to more of the palaces, and make them self sufficient and open to the public. Hopefully for a lower price than that! Id like Buckingham Palace to be opened up for longer. Tourists can pay for the repairs to it. Stick some of the priceless pieces of art they are hoarding on display as well while they're at it.

CathyorClaire · 03/04/2024 20:25

I'd expect a bit more than three rooms, a servant's cubbyhole and a corridor for a ton.

Where is the money going?

LlynTegid · 03/04/2024 20:26

Agree good if people choose to visit a beautiful part of this island.

They could do an immersive experience, where you put on an apron and get on with making the tea yourself. Then a bit of floor scrubbing and some genuflexions.

Oh, God, until the TikTokers get on to it, like Cornwall.

They could practice putting toothpaste onto a 'Prince Charles' brush or have a recording of Prince Andrew ordering them to pick up something he's dropped!

😂 it’s ripe for experimenting

DojaPhat · 03/04/2024 20:49

I read an article once about the then queen's mother, IIRC her maids would have a vase? container type of thing with wine which she'd drink half for elevenses then polish off the rest by late afternoon, followed by a nap till dinner time. I can see how something like this would be sold out - I think the RF are struggling to adapt to maintain relevance especially if part of doing so means conceding some privacy. I suppose this is one way to keep the pitchforks at bay.

Dearg · 03/04/2024 21:01

You get a lovely scone at Balmoral, and the cafe is dog friendly. If that makes it more attractive ;-)

Balmoral is privately owned . It is self sufficient.

NoisySnail · 03/04/2024 21:05

There are already lots of tourists that visit the area.

WibblyWobblyJane · 03/04/2024 21:14

Harry should take Meghan. She’s never been, right?

Honestly, I take this back. It feels cruel in thinking about the truth of it all.

Theunamedcat · 03/04/2024 21:55

Isn't Balmoral where they spend Christmas? 🤔 she went for Christmas

ssd · 03/04/2024 22:09

There's an amazing hotel up that way, The Fife Arms. OMG its unreal and very costly, right up some pretentious mnetters street

No, that’s sandringham. Balmoral is where they go in the summer.

upinaballoon · 03/04/2024 22:21

"He should do it to more of the palaces."
Surely Sandringham and Kensington Palace and Windsor Castle are open many days of the year. I've known Clarence House to be open for visitors but I don't know how long ago it was, or for how long.

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 03/04/2024 22:22

From what I saw on the tv - the rooms looked lovely as did their toys when they were kids.

If it was near to where we live, I would have gone
