The royal family

In appreciation of Princess Anne

Princess Royal gives Gloucestershire history lesson to army officers

The Princess Royal educated senior army officers on "a very important bit of Gloucestershire history".

She had visited the army barracks to open new accommodation.

"The new officers' accommodation at the Imjin Barracks in Innsworth were named after Colonel James Calne.
Col Calne was the commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, The Gloucestershire Regiment during the Korean War in 1951."

"The princess reflected on a trip to Korea after asking if there was an explanation for the name of the block, to which she was told there was not."

Of course Princess Anne knew better, if not by virtue of a sharp memory then because she had done her homework before the visit.

"It seems very relevant to Gloucestershire, and I was at a reception the other day for Korean veterans," she said.
"Funnily enough, when I went to Korea the first time, they took me out to the Glosters' memorial.
"As it happens, I think it is much more relevant to go and see the territory and terrain that they had to fight in. It was horrendous.
"The temperature in winter… they said minus 40."

Those senior officers must have been very red faced, fancy being caught out having failed to brush up their history or even ascertain the reason for the choice of name for their new barracks!

Thought it was time to have a break from threads about you know what and have some simple appreciation for the chief workhorse of the Royal family.

I love the way that she supports her brother.

He's so lucky to have her, all the Royal duties that King Charles can't do himself are in safe hands with Anne.

I suppose you have never got anything wrong in your life then....

Maybe unfurling yourself from your anus would be an idea?

No, I’ve never had dogs that attacked random children in the park…

Maybe finding yourself some basic manners would be a good
idea

Literally said I liked her, I just find it interesting how her, pretty major, misdemeanour is basically forgotten in comparison to some other royals because she’s viewed as a hard worker

Mrsjayy · 24/03/2024 20:18

She used to be patron for Riding for the disabled I was a member/rider up until my early 20s I was presented? (Is that the right word) to her at a new equestrian centre opening I had to do a demo. Anyway afterwards I met her and instantly liked her she was thoroughly decent and interested in what I was doing.

The “likes of me?” And what exactly do you mean by that?

I think you need to look up the meaning of manners if you think you’ve shown any whatsoever

You could have mentioned disagreeing with bringing it up in a discussion about Anne, being that we’re on a discussion forum, without being downright rude

Nasty. That's all.

And I think you’ll find being convicted of your dog attacking two children, and another of your dogs killing one of your mothers Corgis is not a “single unfortunate incident”

It is indeed a sign of a dreadful dog owner

Yeah sure, if you say so...!!! Maybe QEII should have disinherited her. Or sent her to the Tower.

Did you even read the OP?!

I wasn’t impressed with her comments on the RF links to slavery which she made in an interview not so long ago.

Same. She really didn’t like being challenged on that at all.

She at least does more than the rest of the Royals, I suppose. The best of a bad bunch gets hero status it seems.

Congratulations on getting my post removed. C'est la vie. Still don't need lessons in manners from you.

I knew about the dog attack on the children, but I didn’t know there was another incident involving another dog. How awful.

I think Anne is brilliant - she does the grunt work, the unglamorous stuff, is well briefed, efficient and willing to learn (Children in Need).

Looking fabulous in a gold dress at the BAFTAs is one side of the royals, and one I enjoy and want, but the graft of staring at the back of a new modern bin lorry and doing the opening of sheltered housing units, meeting young offenders the same day as going to a Vegetable Processing Machinery Company is what she’s for. She pitches up, sleeves rolled up and doesn’t care if there’s a camera there or not, she still does her job the way she always has. It’s not for applause because she’s not often in the tabloids because she’s not young or glam.

She’s also represented her country at the Olympics which is something anyone would be proud of.

I love English bull terriers but they’re terriers. And accidents happen. People behave like she did that deliberately. Over all, in her 73 years with no sign of retirement any time soon, she gets a thumbs up from me. The good outweighs the bad. And no one’s perfect. Even those posters having a sneer.

Is a dog attacking 2 children and then killing a dog in a separate incident, an accident? An accident may be an excitable dog knocking over a child, but attacking them? And then killing a dog? It’s dreadful. The dogs must have been out of control and the responsibility lies with the owner.

When was the last incident?

@Mairzydotes

Definitely.

I wish we could vote her in at the next election!!

since her parents died she is my favourite Royal!

17th in line, it's a tragedy. I'm hoping that Charles gets his bash at it for more than 5 minutes after waiting his entire life... but if anything was to happen I'd rather like Anne to take over, William can wait a bit longer!!

DuchessOfPort · 24/03/2024 21:46

Let’s ignore all the good light she’s shone on charities or the work she does for Riding for the Disabled.

  • she pleaded guilty
  • it wasn’t recommended the dog even be put down by the dog psychologist who described the dog as “placid”
  • the children didn’t come to any harm (“it put them off dogs” according to the judge.

Between her and HLMTQ about the corgi. they seem to have remained on speakers and you weren’t there, so it’s none of your business is it?

TakeTheTime · 24/03/2024 21:49

quantumbutterfly · 24/03/2024 21:39

When was the last incident?

Just Googled and the attacks were in 2002 and 2003. There are some reports of a dog belonging to Anne attacking another dog on Boxing Day 2022, I don’t know if that attack was confirmed. It doesn’t paint a picture of someone with well trained dogs whether it’s 2 or 3 incidents.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 24/03/2024 21:53

People’s need go go on the attack without even properly reading posts has absolutely ruined this forum

You used to be able to have a discussion with people with differing opinions.

I said, in my first post, that it was interesting that her misdemeanours (and the last reported one was only last Christmas when her dog apparent attacked a gamekeepers dog) have been forgiven and forgotten when other things (even things like tampongate) are always brought up.

It is interesting that she escapes any long term stigma from her actual crime because she’s seen as hard working, when other royals carry things, like tampongate, because they’re not seen as hard working.

Anyway, I’m done. Once people resort to nasty PMs it’s time to leave a forum be. No time for that level of bollocks

A dog died. That matters. It seems like it was the same dog who attacked the children and then went on to attack a dog resulting in that dog having to be PTS.

If people want to talk about it, they can. It’s awful.

It wasn’t the same dog. The dogs were mother and daughter.

Perhaps the fact that these incidents were over 20 years ago suggests they were isolated ones? Princess Anne must have countless dogs over the years!

Good. It's not an airport btw.

Please DO NOT insinuate that I have sent you nasty PMs because I have NOT sent you any PMs(I have never sent anyone a PM in all my years on this site!!) and I am not interested in communicating with you, so perhaps you could have the decency to confirm that before you complete your flounce!!

That is a load of crap too re tampongate - Charles is deemed to be hard-working !!

The whole tampongate thing should never have been public knowledge, it’s awful that was publicised. They should be able to have private conversations.

You’re right, Anne’s irresponsible dog ownership actually caused harm yet it’s rarely mentioned. I only knew about the attack on the children, I didn’t know about the dog attack that resulted in a dogs death or the alleged attack in 2022. She seems to get off lightly in the press because of her reputation as a hard worker. Lots of people work hard, they don’t get people excusing their irresponsible behaviour resulting in harm to children and animals, just because of it, nor should they.
