Finding all the Princess of Wales conspiracy theories so odd. Am I in as much of a minority as it seems?

Perhaps I'm naive. Maybe my imagination isn't as wild as it could be ( although it is general incredibly lively), maybe ive got a realistic perspective, or maybe I've got it utterly wrong. Whichever is the case time will tell.
I'm Finding it difficult to understand why pepole would think it so inconceivable that firstly she has had surgery, rather than is having a MH crisis or divorce out they're is done other strange mystery afoot. It's apparently unimsginsble that surgery is major and takes a lot of recovery to get back to full health, a)to be potentially walking around for hours on end not feeling drained and exhausted and. b) being in the public eye wanting/ needing/ being expected to look good on return to public life.

i personally underwent abdominal surgery at the same hospital as the PoW a fortnight ago And stayed in for 6 days. Apparently many pepole in the Gi unit stay up to a fortnight two weeks on, although my cuts are tiny (keyhole), I am swollen up and currently am a similar size to I was when I was 7.5 months pregnant, covered in bruises, & in almost constant severe pain despite a cocktail of drugs and can barely move around. To say I'm exhausted would be the understatement. I normaly walk 6 miles every day and work out bit I can't ever get to the street corner150ft away and back without being crippled. I'm carrying about 7kg of extra weight in swelling. Needless to say apart from feeling grim I look deathly.
I've been given a very structured list of things I can't do for 6 weeks, very basic things - I tried as it seemed so ridiculous. Clearly its not ridiculous. Abdominal surgery can be a huge deal. I've been told 6 weeks to be able to do ordinary things like mopping the floor and hovering, carrying anything more than 4 or 5 kgs the 12 weeks to get back to my usual stamina and condition.

If i was appearing in the scrutiny of the public eye I would not be going out if I did not look back to normal and feel good. Surgery makes you feel really low and you need to feel good about yourself especially when you're going to be picked apart the world over. .

People firstly have no idea what is involved I often in major surgery. Add in having to maintain an Element of appearance for the public so asks extra time to achieve that.
They seems to be huge confusion between planned/ elective vs emergency surgery. Its always planned unless you are literally rushed in as a critical emergency. Otherwise it's classed as planned I saw my surgeon for a consultation. My op was the next day. Urgent but not an emergency, therefore planned.

Is it really that strange?..

There's no hysteria in RL in the UK. Everyone I know thinks she should be left alone to recover. There's been some awful things in the foreign media and I have seen really unhinged stuff on X from accounts that seem to be US based.

Same here, it's almost like the small number conspiracy theorists have the loudest voice and drown out the majority of sensible ones, those who shout loudest and all that...

WisteriaLodge · 16/03/2024 13:13

Most of these posters are from the UK.

You don't know that for a fact at all, only MNHQ would know.

It wasn't just a family picture. The picture was edited to the extent the agencies couldn't say without doubt that those people sat together in that place. And it was apparently taken by the future head of state, meaning he was complicit in the deception. That's why it's a big deal, regardless of what any original photo may or may not have looked like.

Not actually true.

The meta data from the image shows it was taken at Adelaide Cottage on the Friday before Mother's Day, and edited twice over the weekend.

And the 'analysis' I've seen of it shows that most the changes were done around the children. The only ones I've seen saying Catherine's face was heavily edited have been on Twitter & Tiktok by random users.

The agencies reject news photos because 'red eye' has been edited out because 'photos as news' have a higher threshold of integrity, and the reason they did this with THAT photo is that they chose to present & categorise it as a 'news photo'. Had they classified it as a PR photo there would have been no issues with it. To me The Wales' presented it as a PR piece (its a puff piece Mothers Day photo ffs), the agencies preferred to view it as "news".

And you're correct, Misan Harrison did release the original colour image, however he removed a significant amount of meta data, so it's hard to tell exactly what editing was done to the original image.

Well, I'm saying in general that most posters on Mumsnet are British. You can see that from the discussions that it's generally UK based discussions on British schools, British towns, British TV shows, Beitiush shops etc. The specific posts about Kate still feel like they're mostly from British people (the language used not sounding very American or English as a second language).
Anyway, to say it's only foreigners getting carried away with these conspiracy theories is nonsense. I've heard as much madness from UK sources as I have from foreign sources.

JSMill · 16/03/2024 13:22

I don't know where posters on MN are from unless they say but I have seen absolutely batshit stuff on X from accounts that are US based. Why do they even care?

WisteriaLodge · 16/03/2024 13:29

Well, I'm saying in general that most posters on Mumsnet are British.

But they're not though, posters on the Kate threads are from everywhere, that's only because they've said things like "here in Oz or "it's on the news here in the US", it's just like Twitter.

Haven't people from the US always loved the royals more than us?

IsoldeWagner · 16/03/2024 13:33

Thanks, @MrsFinkelstein for that additional information about the photo, also the one by Misan Hariman.

Not all US press love them, but I think quite a few do...

Sorry - late to the party.

I'm totally with you OP - what the flippin' heck is all the crazy fuss about? So someone tweaked a photo!! I've just been seeing ads for the iPhone 'Best Take' facility - which does precisely what the frothers are complaining about.

I was within a millimetre of flouncing off MN 2 days ago because it was a bit like looking under a paving stone...the utter bonkers-ness of the threads and responses made me want out. But I've clutched my pearls tightly and sniffed some smelling salts and your thread has restored my equilibrium.

I wonder how many of the more extreme MNers think the moon-landing was a hoax, too?

My “good authority” is a well-known journo. And it’s pretty OMG. Guess only time will tell. As I said, I’m really disinterested! Too much drama going on in my own life

ShamedBySiri · 16/03/2024 14:20

I agree OP.

What people don't seem to understand is that when she is on duty she always has to be 100% her best, at all times, with cameras focused on her and press quick to comment.
She has to look fabulous, cheerfully accept a hug from a sticky fingered child, play tennis with Wimbledon ball boys, do scouting things with scouts.
She can't have an off day when she's feeling grumpy. She can't have a phased return to work. She can't be needing to nip off to the loo frequently.
I can't recall her having a day off sick before - maybe she has but short term cancellations hit the news and disappoint people who were eager to meet her. She obviously won't want to do this which could happen if she goes back before being fully recovered.

She can't go back until she's 100%.
She might have been feeling pretty well recovered for the last month but that's not the same thing as being g 100% up and ready.

I feel really sorry for her as she can't win. As a hands on mother who likes to do the school run I expect it's driving her nuts being shut away at home. But if she appears looking great doing the school run she'll be criticised for not being back at work when she's obviously well. Even though there's a big difference between driving the kids a short distance to school and going to home to have a rest and do her physio exercises and being her normal energetic self.
But by staying at home to avoid that she's now going to be mobbed when she does go out and about again.

I hope she's feeling well and happy and will reappear on Easter Day looking fabulous and then just quietly get back to doing what she normally does whilst ignoring any tactless questions.

Considering rhe journos don’t know, as this has been kept so confined to a private close knit group, then I assume you will be name changing soon after posting this malignant stuff?

TwistedCable · 16/03/2024 14:35

Freakinfraser · 16/03/2024 11:09

I think it’s envy. I really do. And it also appears it is mainly women. Women attacking another woman, as that’s what these are attacks. In my experience that’s often down to envy,

when a woman appears to have so much, there are others who will take deep pleasure in hoping something bad has happened to them. Bring them down a peg or two,

I think that’s what’s behind all the baying for a stoma, or that her marriage is secretly shit, or that she’s had a mental breakdown or her husband is cheating. It’s pure envy bringing out the worst in people.

Who the fuck would envy her? I feel very sorry for her

DeftDenimPoet · 16/03/2024 15:00

It is about lack of trust, whether you think that is justified or not. Public trust in all UK institutions has declined, so people no longer automatically believe what they are officially told.

RosieAway · 16/03/2024 15:02

What do you mean?

Seriously?

wnat you are posting about your big omg story is nonsense. Any major editor will tell you they do not know what is going on. Kate’s staff don’t even know. Never mind the malignant stuff you’re posting about his infidelity and her health. It’s malignant gossip.

so I assume you will name change when she’s back and recovered?

OneHeartySnail · 16/03/2024 15:14

It has also been posted that most of her staff didn't (and don't) know about her health issues and reason for having a break. So it is strange that a random journalist has a scoop that is front-page worthy but they are keeping it under wraps.

EasternStandard · 16/03/2024 15:15

It’s just media making hay whilst the sun shines

SM platforms too. It makes them money

Yes, but lets not let logic get in the way of a good conspiracy theory.

FFS, your post makes you sound like a gossipping teenager with all the 'OMG' bollocks...

OneHeartySnail · 16/03/2024 15:20

I don't understand why (if there is an affair, divorce, soft-landing for affair party, undermining Catherine to get rid of her etc etc) how putting out a story about surgery and back after Easter would benefit KP/the RF?

Because after Easter the same issue would still exist.

The only way a statement of 'back after Easter' would make sense as a strategy is if there is a reasonable expectation that she will be back after Easter

This is a very long read. It’s an interview with an ex buzzfeed royal reporter. Make of it what you will. I’m with one of the earlier replies on this thread. The whole thing seems….. odd,
