King Willem-Alexander says ‘at least I didn’t Photoshop it’

King Willem-Alexander when asked about a picture with his family says ‘at least I didn’t Photoshop it’. It is bad when other Royal family members are having a pop.

OP posts:

It is quite a funny joke- and British people make those kinds of jokes too.

i think that humour is probably the most sensible course of action over this issue.

sanluca · 16/03/2024 09:38

It is typical Dutch humour and not meant to offend. I find it quite funny and knowing the signficant issues the Dutch royals have had, I would take it as 'give it a rest, it is photo, not a threat to life'

As for the WW2 comment, that is quite offensive if you take into account the lives lost during ww2. And the Canadian 'boys' were always welcomed back with open arms during every remembrance of Market Garden

Is this a made up person?

Ever heard of Google?

VisitationRights · 16/03/2024 09:45

There has always been huge respect between Canada and the Netherlands. The whole Ottawa Tulip Festival is centred around the historical relationship. Anyone Canadian I know who traveled to the Netherlands has experienced nothing but kindness from the Dutch.

TallerSally · 16/03/2024 10:21

I think it’s obvious why the king made that joke: the RF (thanks specifically to the PR geniuses at KP) have become global laughing stocks over this Katephotogate.

It will go down in history as one of the worse PR disasters of the modern times, in the age of TikTok, X and online influencers.

And it 100% is down to KP and their antiquated and frankly arrogant comms strategy, which everyone with a voice, including their usual staunch supporters (ie even Pasty Piers, he’s usually FoS but even I’ve been surprised by what he’s been saying lately), is condemning as an abject failure.

Until KP wise up and adapt to the realities of keeping the public on side in 2024, they will continue to drag down the RF and make it the butt of jokes all over the world.

Things are not great for the RF when even other royals are making fun of them…

sashagabadon · 16/03/2024 10:38

@TallerSally I think that is a tad over dramatic. It might be all over the internet but in real life not a single person has mentioned it to me among relatives, colleagues, old school friends on night out and group of mum friends.
i am not sure anything can be as awful as Diana dying anyway so if you can get through that then you can get through a wonky sleeve on a little girls cardigan imo

sashagabadon · 16/03/2024 10:40

But i agree they need to rethink their photo release strategy as do all royals everywhere! And actually maybe politicians and high ranking celebs. The rest of us can carry on photoshopping away 😁

sashagabadon · 16/03/2024 10:44

I also think there is a media agenda ( which includes piers) of wanting more access to W and K as their are millions of podcasts and YouTube channels that make a fortune discussing them and they are not liking this trend of Kate releasing her own pics. I bet the photo agencies generally hate that and this is a shot across the bows by them to the Cambridges. Give us more access or we’ll scrutinise your photos to within an inch of their lives and make your lives miserable in the process.
just my opinion of course

ChVrches · 16/03/2024 10:50

We live in a very fake world. My son specialises in the law regarding AI and the ways in which Governments try to deny people's rights in particular with regard to free speech. Perhaps this is one of those pivotal moments where the current policies of the media need to be reviewed in line with developments in technology.

What an awful thing to say

I would love to tell you.our story, but I am not into giving personal stories out on MN.
We were in the Netherlands last year for a WW2 Memorial with a huge connection with our family, it was in the media
Please do not knock a whole country just because of your views on our RF

AliceOlive · 16/03/2024 10:52

This seems like a very important thread. Brava! @BenefitWaffle

ChVrches · 16/03/2024 10:53

I think I am entitled to say on here what I want within TG and really what business is it of yours what I think?

Let me get this straight. Are you seriously posting an opinion on social media and then getting huffy when someone says they disagree with you?

I mean we could all just sit here saying that to each other. I can post what I like and what business is it of yours what I think? 😂😂😂 Hahaha that’s going to be a great discussion.

Thinking about this some more, I would say that his comment (“Echt waar? Ik heb in ieder geval niets gephotoshopt”) would be more like, “Oh did you? All I can say is I haven’t photoshopped anything!” (Or “I didn’t photoshop anything.”) I don’t think the implications of “at least” are there in what he said in Dutch.

Thus ends my overthinking 😂😂

I think your translation is fair.

The more important news from the Netherlands is that Geert Wilders has given up trying to become Prime Minister.

ChVrches · 16/03/2024 11:00

I'm not being huffy. I'm just saying that that poster was telling people yesterday she can post what she likes so I assumed that is an appropriate answer for everyone?

WinnieTheW0rm · 16/03/2024 11:02

Banter

But was it aimed at the spliced Danish royal twins? Or the Wales?

Totally within TG. I wouldn't report it anyway, I want it to stand with your name by it

As for what business it is of mine...do you not remember writing huge paragraphs to me recently picking apart a reply that I wrote to someone?

To me, because of our big connection to the Netherlands, I found what you wrote unpleasant and I'm not on my own there.
That's it

Did you mean this for the other poster?

Every time I see something about the coalition-forming on the news I’m like oh, do we STILL not have a government yet? 😂 It’s like, you forget about it and then something reminds you that negotiations are still going on.

There’s nothing the Dutch love better than a good negotiation. Let’s all get our opinions across!

ChVrches · 16/03/2024 11:07

Now I'm honestly lost.

"Totally within TG. I wouldn't report it anyway, I want it to stand with your name by it'

If it's totally within TG then you can't report it? I do apologise if you feel upset by questioning you yesterday.

Apologies for apparently not following the whole discussion. I should probably have kept my mouth shut rather than chiming in to have a go at you. It wasn’t constructive of me 💐

Begsthequestion · 16/03/2024 11:12

Compared to the hundreds of racist, misogynistic remarks Prince Phillip doled out on official occasions while representing Britain, this is incredibly mild and quite playful really.

ChVrches · 16/03/2024 11:13

I am slowly learning here though. It seems you have to have a good memory for recalling previous conversations. My memory is appalling so I might have to start a spreadsheet 😄
