I didn't always agree with how she dealt with things, particularly Andrew but since she passed away, it seems no one is at the wheel.

I don't think Charles is strong enough to deal with them all.

H&M are monetising away, Kate seems to have said f*k it and f*k conforming (good for her) and William, god knows what he's playing at.

I just can't imagine the current situation would have occurred if QE was alive.

I mean Charles is pretty old and he has cancer so he's probably quite busy with that Confused

Back in the late 1980s and through the 1990s the RF were an absolute joke. There was It's a Royal Knockout, Sophie's Fake Sheik sting, Fergie's Toes, Diana's book, Diana's Panorama interview, Squidgygate, Tampaxgate, the divorces, Windsor Castle burning down and the Queen having the gall to approach the government to fund the refurbishment of it.

That's just for starters. All on the Queen's watch.

Very true. The Kate thing is nothing compared to all this. But I think the issue is that for her whole marriage to William, so far her image has been perfect and she does everything right.

Now, she's suddenly disappeared and people are concerned. Which they would be. Those people who keep bleating 'leave her alone' - you can't be a highly privileged public figure who suddenly disappears and expect people not to speculate.

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 15/03/2024 13:49

I agree, she had her faults ( don’t we all ) but the late Queen gave the country a real sense of stability and a small corner of calm

Now, it feels like all hell has broken loose, and at a time when the Government is having many MPs planning to leave a sinking ship; the prospect of dull Starmer and the gruesome twosome rubbing their hands in glee at K and W in trouble

CurlewKate · 15/03/2024 13:49

@Citrusandginger "Do you honestly believe every photo press agencies put out is genuine?" As far as they can determine, yes. Insofar as it reflects"a moment in time." Photoshop yes, montage no.

What current situation? A couple of members of the family are ill and taking sometime off for treatment and recovery. Some people have lost their heads about this and whipped up a a load of Internet rumours about severity of illness/divorce. A silly photo was released which is a bit embarrassing.

It'll all be forgotten in a few weeks. Most people don't give a fuck.

You’re very naive🥰

She hasn’t disappeared. She is, as we were told at the outset, on sick leave from work, if you will, until Easter. Being Princess of Wales doesn’t mean you have to be visible to the public at all times, and on request.

God it was great wasn’t it. The memes would have been off the hook if we’d had the internet back then.

Care to expand on that without the passive aggressive cutesy emoji?

I would have loved Its A Royal Knockout on Twitter. It would have kept me entertained for days.

Severalwhippets · 15/03/2024 14:00

I agree. The discipline and good judgement obviously came from the Queen, without it there is no authority. An authority vacuum exacerbated by the Kings diagnosis.

I feel it’s lose lose now for them.

If the William and Kate saga turns out to be nothing, the public will be rightly furious with the unprecedented levels of drama, fake photos and game playing and will never trust them again.

If it’s something serious and huge then the RF may not recover anyway.

The mystique and shine has totally evaporated.

I expect there to be plenty of attention around W&Ks engagement diary after Easter because they are doing virtually nothing - for years it seems.

I can’t see her coming back at Easter to be fair!

For many of us there is no mystique and shine anyway, hence none of it matters.

"the public will be rightly furious" is a massive overgeneralisation. A proportion of the public will be furious, same as they weirdly are about not being given more regular updates or messages of thanks. Lots of us will continue to roll our eyes and think it's all a fuss over nothing.

“If the William and Kate saga turns out to be nothing, the public will be rightly furious with the unprecedented levels of drama, fake photos and game playing and will never trust them again”.

In that scenario the only people the public should be furious with is the media.

There have been three photos. Two pap shots taken of her in cars, neither of which are dodgy. The other it remains to be seen whether Kate just tweaked a few bits, or replaced her entire head. Big difference.

JSMill · 15/03/2024 14:05

This makes absolutely no sense. They issued a statement saying K had had an operation and wouldn't be seen in public until Easter. They are not responsible for the speculation and conspiracy theories.

Severalwhippets · 15/03/2024 14:05

Kates own staff haven’t seen her…

They mean her office staff though, not domestic. I wouldn't see my boss if she was off sick.

It does not say office staff

Yes I does, it says "senior staffers", they're the people running her office. The headline is deliberately misleading.

TinkerTiger · 15/03/2024 14:16

OP, the way you glossed over Prince Andrew but are SHOCKED at the way a badly photoshopped (possibly fake) photo has been dealt with is quite troubling.

Senior staffers can also be domestic staff. Why are you trying to mislead.

SmashedPrawnsInAMilkyBasket · 15/03/2024 13:15

I don’t believe a word of it, not least because it’s not true. Tabloid mawkishness. HMQ owned Balmoral and Sandringham, and their estates and contents, personally, and the Queen’s privy purse, at a minimum. Neither was she given to that sort of emotional talk, at least where anyone who might repeat it would hear.

Not to mention the horses!

Severalwhippets · 15/03/2024 14:24

In the original text it states none of her staff domestic or otherwise have seen her. That Carole is doing the lion share of input - only the king and Camilla have been granted permission to see her according to senior members of Kates staff.

crumblingschools · 15/03/2024 14:24

If it turns out that Kate was ill (like they told us) and nothing else to see, not sure why the public should be angry with them, the public who were whipping up all sorts on social media should be ashamed of themselves
