Photography hobbyists and aficionados unite.

Welcome to the thread where you can display and discuss some of the most iconic photos captured by some of the most talented photographers.

These aren't your average Instagram photos. Oh no. These are the ones that live in your head rent free. The Marie Kondo of photos that spark joy. Where everything in the photo is perfection.

This thread is meant to be fun, light-hearted, and showcase the talents of those behind the lens.

Please do not derail, and do not use this thread to be snarky or have a dig about subjects you don't like, or to other posters. If you cannot keep in the spirit of the thread, then please don't participate or spoil it for others.

When is the Garter ceremony? It always looks slightly strange...Id love to dress up for the day!

In June, apparently. The Order of the Garter | The Royal Family

I see the King has appointed Edward to the Order of the Thistle, the oldest Scottish Order, to mark his 60th birthday. Birthday interview with Edward here, including his thoughts on being Duke of Edinburgh: King Charles appoints Duke of Edinburgh to Scotland's Order of the Thistle - BBC News

I know that PA is persona non grata and poor old Fergie has had some rather unfortunate times but I love this picture of them playing with the crowd on the Mall on their wedding day. They seemed so carefree and genuinely in love, it's sad I think what happened and they were so very popular. Those of us older in the tooth will remember C&D and A&S being the original royal Fab Four. And she was such a breath of fresh air. It takes me right back to 1986 when the RF seemed invincible and the cracks had yet to show.

I will be honest and don't want to be a downer but I hated when they were doing that with the crowd...getting them to shout louder for a kiss 😮

It was a wedding, not really sure what's so controversial about them getting th crowd to cheer for a kiss.
anyway I've had twenty minutes off my usual mn boards and I think I shall go back there where it's nice and calm

eggandonion · 10/03/2024 22:41

I love pantomime...so I like a shouting crowd!

Queen Mary is almost smiling in that photo! They're all dressed up, wonder what the occasion was.

Apologies if a repeat

Definitely a photo for a caption competition!

JudgeJ · 10/03/2024 23:57

That last post was supposed to be attached to the photo of Harry and William eying each other up!

One of the most memorable images from the late Queen's coronation - Queen Salote of Tonga. Most people in the procession were driving in closed carriages or cars because of the weather. She insisted on an open carriage, so that she could see the crowds and be seen. The crowds loved her for that, and because she was so clearly enjoying the occasion, and cheered her all the way. (She was a very large lady - there's a photo of her walking with the Queen when the Queen visited Tonga which shows their relative sizes.)

My late mother always talked about the Queen of Tongo sitting in an open carriage when it was pouring down!

Mrs Alice Keppel, long term mistress of Edward VII. She was well-liked (even by Alexandra), because she was said to be good at managing the King's moods, was aways discreet and didn't flaunt her position.

When the King was in his last illness, Alexandra said that anyone who wished to see the King, and whom he wished to see, should be admitted, so Mrs Keppel was able to say goodbye.

She is of course Camilla's great-grandmother.

There was a programme on TV last week about Edward VII that was interesting, Mrs Keppel retired to a very nice house on Pall Mall courtesy of Edward.

Real dog lovers, then - they like EVERY dog! 😄

I believe Princess Anne is an English Bull Terrier woman - Princess Margaret had Sealyhams (my mam always wanted a sealyham but never got one - I quite like them myself).

My mum too!

eggandonion · 11/03/2024 16:38

My mum was also in the Queen of Tonga club. I don't remember anything so noteworthy last year.

Well, pipsfromthefuture. You chose an absolutely perfect time to post your lovely thread about Royal photographs- bearing in mind what is currently happening with the Princess of Wales and her Mothering Sunday photo😂!!

Abouttimeforanamechange · 11/03/2024 21:37

Absolutely batshit, the responses to that photo. 'Where's William????!!!!' they were demanding on Twitter last night. He was taking the bloody photo, as anyone who bothered to look at the credit could see.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/03/2024 21:42

I've been looking through photos of coronations from other countries and was struck by this one of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej's coronation in 1950. I love that he's wearing sunglasses.

This is King Maha Vajiralongkorn in 2019, which gives you an idea of what the colours might have looked like in the previous photo.

Yes. Smile
But William's Mother's Day photo of his family won't be regarded as "the best of the best" (see thread title) for obvious reasons

heldinadream · 12/03/2024 09:00

@GrouchyKiwi superb pics! Wonder why he was wearing sunglasses at his own coronation? Or is it just that it's sunny in Thailand?
Trying to imagine QE2 turning up to hers in her sister's best shades! 😎👀

AnnunciataM · 12/03/2024 10:26

The 😎 are a great touch! The current king of Thailand is… a character, shall we say?

I started that thread and I never said it was the best of the best.

I said it was lovely.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/03/2024 12:08

She's referring to the title of this thread BirthdayRainbow. Smile
