I love this thread!
All stunning pictures.
I wish I knew how to upload, but the one of several that I always remember is when Princess Diana held a sick little child to her. Her face showed compassion and care and that human touch (especially from the RF) was worth so much.

Was it this one?

It's a photo that sticks in my memory.

When I searched for it there were so many beautiful, compassionate photos of Diana with children. She had a lovely connection with them.

I've always loved pictures of these two together. 💝

Ah, Kate and Harry had such a lovely relationship and clearly adored each others company. I’d love to see this happen again one day.

There have been loads of pics posted here of our royals having a right good giggle with each other. More of that would definitely endear them to the public!

This is such a great, refreshing post - I've never got through a full thred before - thank you OP

This one is an iconic photo for historical reasons - when I went around the royal palace in Stockholm they had a copy of it displayed and the guide explained its significance. It shoes the current King of Sweden,Carl XVI Gustav - who is in his 70s now- as a baby, being held by his great-grandfather King Gustav V. His father and grandfather watch on.

The interesting part is that when Gustav V was born, in the 1840s, there were still people alive in the Swedish Court who had fought with Napoleon in the years leading up to 1815, as one of Napoleon’s Marshals, Jean Bernadotte, had become King of Sweden in the years after the Battle of Waterloo. So the current Swedish King is two degrees of separation from the French Revolution and Napoleon. I love that.

I love photos with multiple generations. That's a fantastic photo.

Speaking of Sarah Chatto, I loved her wedding. At first glance it seems strange to have bridesmaids wearing almost identical dresses to the bride, but in this case it worked.

The bridesmaids, among them Zara Tindall, look like graceful swans flocking around her in this photo. Take away the car and the crowds, and it could almost be a Holbein painting, which is fitting given that Lady Sarah is a painter and the dress was inspired by Tudor gowns.

I've always liked the colours in this picture, it looks beautiful.

I know Kate got a bit of stick online for wearing such a light yellow but actually I think it all looks deliberately coordinated. The women (the queen, Camilla, Doria and Kate) all in fresh pastel/spring colours), the bridesmaids in white, the green and white bouquets and headdresses, and the green of the room work really well. Kate would have stood out and looked off in, say, bright pink or navy etc. I think it was planned well and comes together really nicely.

I've always wondered how they keep those slanty hats on . . . 🤔

i love the history of the Swedish royals.

This photo is from the wedding of Prince Bertil to Lilian Craig. After the death of his brother when his nephew, Carl Gustav, was only 9 months old it was expected that he may be needed as regent at some point. At that time marrying a commoner, like Lilian, would lose you your title and place in the succession so they didn’t marry for over 30 years. By then his nephew was Carl XVI Gustav and, himself married to a commoner, he approved the marriage and made Lilian a princess of Sweden.

Has anyone posted any of the Hawaiian royals?

Queen Kapiolani and Crown Princess Liliuokalani at Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee.

She commissioned her “peacock gown” for the jubilee.

It’s such a shame there’s no video footage of Diana dancing with John Travolta. I don’t think there’s any of her dance with Wayne Sleep either, though The Crown did its best!

There’s lots of photos of her dancing with Charles, interestingly - it was one activity they did both love, apparently. Which reminded me that there are plenty of photos from the first few years of their marriage There was definitely affection and chemistry there. I’ve also seen film footage of them giving an interview shortly after their marriage (the recent Netflix documentary that was just real footage from her life) - they were flirting with each other as they answered the questions. It was quite eye opening, given everything we think we know about them.

What a tiara ! Gorgeous both of them

Sikhs are a very beautiful people.

I know that you get plain people and gorgeous people in all races colours and creeds*, but most of the Sikh people I have met have been "above average", no matter what their age. They have exceptional dignity, somehow.

Yes, they were basically like grandparents to the Victoria, Carl-Philip and Madeleine by all accounts.

AnnunciataM · 08/03/2024 19:49

Lilian died just before Madeleine’s wedding and her oldest daughter’s middle name is Lilian, which was a lovely tribute.

Speaking of Diana and iconic photos from a cultural point of view, I think this photo typifies that.

This photo is Diana shaking hands with a gentleman who had HIV in 1987.

It was quite a momentous moment and such a great humanitarian act.
