Sikhs are a very beautiful people.

I know that you get plain people and gorgeous people in all races colours and creeds*, but most of the Sikh people I have met have been "above average", no matter what their age. They have exceptional dignity, somehow.

  • I myself have a face like a potato, only sweatier

I like their culture and philosophy.

I almost married one!

Bryan Adams photographed the Queen in 2001 as the official Canadian Photographer for the Golden Jubilee and this image went on to be a famous stamp. They say it is one of the first informal photographs of the Queen with her smiling naturally just waiting to go out in a hallway with gumboots beside her.

@ChVrches That's great isn't it.
Bryan used that photo on his SM page on the day the Queen died.

I remember almost gasping when I saw Kate in the gold dress

Same. And with this dress. I wish I had her stunning figure.

My fave is that one of Princess Margaret in the bath with the tiara on. She was a beauty and just encapsulated the 1960s/1970s with her clothes. Kaftans and earrings - so glamorous but laid back Caribbean.

Speaking of Diana and iconic photos from a cultural point of view, I think this photo typifies that.

This photo is Diana shaking hands with a gentleman who had HIV in 1987.

It was quite a momentous moment and such a great humanitarian act.

Yes - I remember that.

With that one simple, human action she changed so many people's attitudes towards sufferers with HIV - prior to Princess Diana, many people regarded them as some sort of "plague rats". And many felt it "served them right" for being gay - even when they weren't gay, suspicion would linger. They were dark times to be a homosexual man. Diana broke down that barrier and showed that they were no more "dangerous" or "sinful" than anyone else.

I like their culture and philosophy.

So do I - they are the "Anglicans of India" in that their ethos is so very similar to Christianity - do good, avoid evil, if you sin then you will be forgiven if you truly repent and do your best to make reparations where possible. (There's much more, obviously, but that's a nutshell.). Very generous and tolerant people, too.

Gumboots?

She and Paddington had more in common than marmalade sandwiches, then? 😁

Any man who will kiss his dog in public has a lot going for him as far as I'm concerned.

Even H. - he can't be all bad, surely?

Gorgeous - Margot from the good life would love that kaftan and those earrings too 🤩

Speaking of Lady Sarah Chatto, I always liked this photo of her with Prince Charles in their (much) younger days.

@Emotionalsupportviper sorry Canadian term - what is it you say wellies?

ochrebla · 08/03/2024 20:36

IcedPurple · 08/03/2024 19:33

Speaking of Sarah Chatto, I loved her wedding. At first glance it seems strange to have bridesmaids wearing almost identical dresses to the bride, but in this case it worked.

The bridesmaids, among them Zara Tindall, look like graceful swans flocking around her in this photo. Take away the car and the crowds, and it could almost be a Holbein painting, which is fitting given that Lady Sarah is a painter and the dress was inspired by Tudor gowns.

I think this is a usual thing for british royals. Queen Elizabeth, POW, Meghan, Diana all had bridesmaids in similar colour.

My mum was a bridesmaid a few times in the 60's and she always had a dress that matched the brides in colour. I absolutely that look.

@Emotionalsupportviper sorry Canadian term - what is it you say wellies?

Edited

We do say wellies*, yes, but in some parts of the UK they are also called gumboots, so I understood you perfectly. 😁

*Some people even use the term "welliebobs". <shudder>, but you will not hear it from my lips.

Edited - As God is my witness, autocorrect, I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED!

Yes, royal bridesmaids traditionally wear white.

But in Lady Sarah's case, the bridesmaids' dresses were almost identical in style to the bride's dress, which is unusual. The only difference I can see is that the bridemaids' dresses had a scooped neckline, whereas the bride's was square.

If we look at Kate's wedding, Pippa also wore white the but the style of her dress is quite different to Kate's.

I too think the all white look is beautiful.

Yes agree that is unusual, and I think the sign of a comfortable woman. The image you posted is stunning.

Don't google "Prince Harry manspreading" then. I only did his out of curiosity but I'm sure the other male royals will be too.

I love this one. According to the FB link it was Wales 1963.

That’s such a lovely photo. Never seen it before.

Simply stunning yet such a sad life.

Just curious
Why such a sad life?
I think completely the opposite! It is Margaret isn't it?
