Harry “is willing to return to a temporary royal role in support of his father during his illness, sources have revealed. In an attempt to help heal the rift in the family, the King and Prince Harry are said to have had several “warm exchanges” since Charles received his cancer diagnosis.
The duke is now understood to have told friends that he would step into a royal role while his father is unwell.”

For those asking "Where's William?" I just checked the Court Circular from now until the end of June and no engagements come up - ditto for Camilla, so I'm not sure what happened to "she'll be stepping up"

In fact the only ones working seem to be Edward and Sophie, Anne and a few engagements for the Gloucesters

Normal, for security reasons.

At the start of the year, the only engagement listed for the King was Trooping the Colour, but only a fool would have thought there was noting else arranged.

It's always patchy (at best) until v close to events, and for King, Queen and both Wales it cannot be relied on for forwards events at all.

You remember wrong.

Did I imagine a wedding that cost £ 20 million and had an immense amount of goodwill towards the couple?

ArcaneWireless · 18/02/2024 13:08

They were accepted as a couple.

Their actions? Not so much.

The crowds lining the streets and cheering...the cheering when they did engagements, people wanting to shake their hands...

???

They were absolute darlings, lovies and adored at their wedding.

Yes, literally turned out in tens of thousands to wish them well

ArcaneWireless · 18/02/2024 13:09

You clearly must be misremembering MrsD.

As must I.

If you had been interested previously you would have known that the “Court Circular”, is updated in arrears once things have taken place (and is not comprehensive - it differs from royal to royal).

The upcoming engagements section on the Royal family website used to be filled out, but several of the royal family members stopped that during Covid, to avoid large crowds turning up to their engagements. William and Kate in particular have never really gone back to having it filled in. Their engagements therefore are known to the people they are visiting, and to the press in advance, but not otherwise.

You remember wrong.

You accepted Meghan as Harry's new future wife at the time. A woman said to my partner after Harry and Meghan married I don't know why the queen allowed that to happen.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 18/02/2024 13:14

You find one happy story that the dailyfail printed what about the rest I can upload a lot more than one negative story on HandM that they have printed.

Inkanta · 18/02/2024 12:39

Well, he'd know all about that

He exposed the covert /dysfunctional goings on - the way the palace/family/press operate. Called it all put .. blew the whistle .. blew up the bridge. Folk do that when they've had enough and want out.

And thanks to Meghan’s court case against the Mail and Harry’s libel case about offering to pay to for the costs of Met police security, we know that Meghan and Harry themselves are the only people proven to have engaged in the things they were complaining about.

Good at tactics, utterly abysmal at strategy, as ever.

From what I can remember the British people didn't accept them as a couple.

What??? I can only think that you don't live in the UK or didn't live here in 2018. They were HUGELY popular as a couple, their wedding was watched by everyone, I don't know one person who didn't wish them both well and hope that finally Harry had found someone he could be happy with.

With Harry marrying someone who was mixed race and not British they represented, as a couple, a chance for the RF to represent and speak to a much wider demographic. And with Meghan being an actress and comfortable in front of a camera it was assumed that she would relish the public side of the role she was stepping into. She was also hugely admired for walking herself down the aisle in front of billions of people on her wedding day. TBH, it's hard to see how much more popular they could've been at that point. The British people absolutely embraced them as a couple.

ArcaneWireless · 18/02/2024 13:16

Those crowds? For their wedding?

Sure someone will be along to tell us that it was actually a protest…

Or maybe they turned up for a car boot sale?

Maybe the tv viewers (reportedly 18 million) just tuned in for spite? Background noise? For the goldfish while they went to ikea?

Mon now.

Not accepted my arse.

CGI can do wonderful things, though.

From what I can remember the British people didn't accept them as a couple.

Actually, it was the rock-star reception they received from the British public everywhere they went that fuelled their unfortunate and mistaken belief that they were truly A-listers, and would carry that adulation with them if they walked away fro the Royals.

One woman does not make the 'British public'. Sure there were people who took a dislike from the start just as there were people who thought Kate was too common for William or the people who are just opposed to all forms of monarchy full stop.

The 'public' consists of all sorts but overall they had a lot of goodwill when they married. Most people were optimistic about the cheeky younger son and his glam American wife who would breathe a bit of life and fun into royalty.

I remember watching the wedding, it was a gorgeous day and the little gestures like Charles making Doria feel welcome felt genuinely lovely at the time. It's a massive shame how sour it all went and how quickly. I don't think everything is the fault of H&M but they own their share of it.

I know that a friend had a visit from Camilla at her workplace recently, but they were embargoed from telling anyone beforehand, so it didn't appear in the court circular. Had been planned for months, and she'd had to keep it a total secret. I assume that may be the case for the most senior royals.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 18/02/2024 13:20

Because they weren't happy - but it was nothing to do with the British public not liking them and wishing them well.

Maireas · 18/02/2024 13:22

Have a look at the Daily Fail (sic) front page about their wedding. I dare you.
