Does anyone know where Prince William is?

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

AliceOlive Kosair is the reason my eldest is here today. Completely amazing hospital. She almost certainly wouldn't be alive had we been in the UK. We were astonishingly lucky, hence her middle name of Louise.

That’s really beautiful. My cousin got a pacemaker there when she was about six.

I love that you named her after Louisville, too. One of the reasons I enjoy when we go off topic here is that we always find some things that we can appreciate about one another and our life experiences.

Does anyone else either a) hide their RFF compulsion from loved ones or b) get the side-eye if they mention the RF at home?

A and B here. 👋

I mean, it’s probably much worse for me given than I’m American and if I even mention news from another country to my DH he jokingly says “What? Where did that happen? Oh never mind!” He’s not unwordly, I swear but the first time I mentioned Harry he had no clue who I meant.

A) No, in that I find it interesting to hear what others irl think. It's mostly the protocol and weird tradition stuff that fascinates me rather than the individuals.
B) Yes!

I have many American friends and every time there is a big royal event I find myself having to discuss details of precedence and protocol because they find it fascinating but know little about it. I should pass them onto you!!

I don’t know much about protocol, but I’d find it fascinating and soothing in some way. Knowing what to expect is good. I like tradition, though I throw it out the window when I like. I despise the idea of a woman wearing white to represent purity, for instance.

I found MN by accident and RFF by even more of an accident. Interesting people here, even when the topic is a bit dull.

Hi jeff this is extraordinarily over the top, to the point of being extremely odd. Cheers.

goodbyestranger · 12/02/2024 08:59

And by way of trying to be helpful jeff, perhaps read my post of yesterday evening at 20.22 where I not only owned my words but doubled down on them.

I won't copy the post because that would be a bore for others who are less exercised by my dim view of American cheese than you appear to be, if that's ok.

jeffgoldblum · 12/02/2024 11:11

🥱 bored now !!!

ArcaneWireless · 12/02/2024 11:52

@AliceOlive

Ive just had a peep of that recipe on the tv programme. The recipe, such as it is, is heavy cream, cheddar and the American cheese’ which looks like the velveeta stuff but may well just be chunky Kraft type cheese slices?

I will have a bash at beer cheese too but in case I missed anything when I was at work, is american cheese the orange solidy stuff mentioned above or could I substitute something else please?

It looks like it doesn’t matter about it needing to be super runny. The beef patty is shaped like a donut (so you pop your chips in the hole) and the sauce goes in the hole and over it. Top bit of bun has a hole too. A very messy creation which looks almost impossible to eat with your paws, but the chap gave it a valiant go.

The cheese sauce doesn’t look as though it belongs on the weight watchers list but I’m a great believer in the odd lovely treat! It looks lush and my sibling is fond of a burger.

Thank you for any advice. I’ve saved the beer cheese thing for going forward and am very grateful. 😘

It might be nice, and not so boring, if folk just reported posts instead of poking/being goady in return.

BeckyAMumsnet · 12/02/2024 12:00

Hi all. We're receiving reports about derailing and so we kindly ask that you avoid doing this kind of thing on threads. It annoys people, hampers discussions, and pretty much goes against what we're here for.

There's a broad range of opinions on this board as with the rest of Mumsnet and so long as our Talk guidelines are followed, people are welcome to express them. If you don't like a thread or wish to engage with the subject, please either ignore or hide it.

Thank you.

@AliceOlive

A pm would be grand if you are ok with that.

Ok @BeckyAMumsnet 👍, I will start a new thread .

Do you say that about every other parent who takes the school holidays off with their children?

Just William in particular.

jeffgoldblum · 12/02/2024 23:09

@RocketsMagnificent7 , retreat , retreat , come back home!!!

user1477255159 · 13/02/2024 00:01

Most parents won't have any help at half term. Some will even lose pay.
Stop comparing William to the average Brit on the street who if they don't perform will be sacked, have to interview for their job and be assessed periodically with their retirement age postponed to keep up fully tax funded Willy.
