Does anyone know where Prince William is?

Errrrr….. where’s Willy? The press focus in the past 24 hours has been perplexing. King Charles’ diagnostic has been the top item, of course. But, bizarrely, the 2nd item has almost invariably been… Prince Harry this and that and the other. Prince HARRY??? What’s with the obsession with him? This should be about Prince WILLIAM! Yet from/about him, absolute silence. What on Earth is going on?

And please don’t start with the “he has to be at his wife’s bedside”. If Harry The Not Next In Line To The Throne And Not Counsellor of State And Can’t Stand In For The King etc etc can fly all the way from Montecito, then William The next King and He Who Should Stand In For King Charles can go visit his Dad in hospital (did he?), rush to be by his dad’s bedside (did he?), make announcements about which official duties he will take up, etc etc.

I know Prince Harry is the one the media are addicted to writing about and slagging off to drive clicks, but can they (and so many on these boards) perhaps take a break from their unhealthy obsession with H (&M) and keep the spotlight where most would expect it to be, on King Charles and, in particular, his successor Prince William?

[Title should read does anyone know...]

Has Charles lectured everyone about flying then?
No - but neither of his sons have lectured anyone about flying either.

Started an environmental travel company?
No - but he is and was well known for promoting environmental causes and climate change (and was much criticised for it). His other son is also known for Earthshot and other causes.

I think it is certainly important to be critical of the heavy use of planes and helicopters by the monied because of the real issues we have with emissions but it serves no one to focus solely on one member of a family especially when they all are as culpable and hypocritical as each other when it comes to this point. It’s important however for people to keep questioning and giving alternates.

(So I think Harry’s most recent flight was wasteful but I also think that the multiple helicopter flights across the country by Charles and William also wasteful and alternate modes of travel should be explored)

GrouchyKiwi · 10/02/2024 15:55

I understand using helicopters from a speed and security point of view, but I think we're past the days when engagements should be carried out piecemeal around the country. I think they need to line things up better from a travel perspective and go on tour a bit more than they do. Short engagements further afield can probably be done via video link.

I agree with skullbabe that they're all hypocritical on this issue (pretty much all celebs, tbh) and should all do better.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 15:58

Skullbabe, my question was about Charles as that was who the poster was talking about, not his sons .
I personally don't care who flys !
And I don't particularly have any interest in being provided with endless Green information that I have seen endlessly, Charles was slated for taking a helicopter to his estate after cancer treatment, this was defended as being hypocritical, I was asking if he had told others not to fly?
Because that would be hypocritical, if he hasn't then he's not!
Everyone knows he's interested in the environment.

It's got fuck all to do with cancer or human kindness. He could have sunk into those back seats for the hundred mile trip and been completely comfortable. This is a habit with Charles, not new for his recently diagnosed illness.

Personally, I find Charles lacking in kindness himself, judging him on his behaviour over the past thirty years.

I very much doubt he'd be comfortable travelling 100 miles without a stop. He's just had prostate surgery. In fact I wouldn't fancy it myself. I regularly regularly drive 360 miles and need to make regular pee and stretch stops. It used to be easier 30 years ago. Thank goodness you have no say in it.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 16:06

I have not seen any retractions or acknowledgments of false accusations about me yesterday yet, until then I will not be replying to those responsible.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 16:18

I would also like to add while we are on the subject, for me personally, I have no issues with any of the royals flying privately ( yes including Harry!) , I do not think it is safe for them or any extremely high profile people to fly commercially, the world is full of people who would love to hurt any of them and indirectly this would endanger the normal people caught in the crossfire.
This is my opinion I acknowledge that others will feel differently.

mrsmingleton · 10/02/2024 16:32

So many nasty posts about a person with cancer - let's hope that they are never in that position. Who really gives a f*ck about a helicopter trip?

Gee whizz one time it's they don't do enough then it is they are doing too many. One day it is royal tours are a thing of the past then it is what they should be doing. I assume all these posters are cycling to work every day and for their shopping and not travelling at all out of the UK unless they are paddling their own canoe.🙄

'Did you take a long-haul flight to reach your last holiday destination? How eco-friendly was your hotel? Did your trip benefit the local community? These are some of the questions that Prince Harry wants you to consider when planning your next trip. i

Did he ask himself those questions when deciding on his flying visit?

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry purposely unfollowed everyone on Instagram

Apparently, it’s part of an overall social strategy that will be very different from that of the other royal social media accounts

I think the point is that he always travels by helicopter.

As do do PoW and the PoW.

It is not an unusal cancer related thing.

With his "focus" on environmet there are a lot of contradictions in his behaviour. Helicopter flying being one of many.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 17:00

What his focus on the environment that was used to ridicule and abuse him for the past 30 or so years?
That focus!

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 17:01

Yes we all remember the " looney green Charles talking to his plants" don't we .

I couldn't care less about how they travel. I bet you don't travel by horse and cart.

skullbabe · 10/02/2024 17:03

Did he ask himself those questions when deciding on his flying visit?

It’s obvious he didn’t. It’s also apparent that many others are equally as hypocritical- the important thing is to keep highlighting and flagging it up to all of them.

wildernesssw · 10/02/2024 17:04

Strangely enough a lot of what Charles has been going on about for years is now accepted as largely correct.

Even with architecture, it is accepted that designs need to support community, which they didn't for a while. Though the Louvre pyramid is now iconic!

No-one is claiming he got everything right, but he has turned out to get a lot more right than many of his critics.

wildernesssw · 10/02/2024 17:05

Great, I am glad we agree Harry was a hypocrite in flying over unnecessarily for such a short visit

In general, actually, I'm very supportive of the Royal family. But I do think the Firm needs to look at how it does things.

jeffgoldblum · 10/02/2024 17:08

This is not meant to disparage America but you couldn't crowbar air force one , or the many calvcade of cars from them they are proud ( quite rightly!)
Only in the U.K. could you find people wanting the kind and heads of state pootling about in a morris minor!

Of course - as said several paragraphs ago…..Not sure why you may thought otherwise.

The problem is you cannot please everyone. I agree there is always a need to reassess and I am sure that there are things that hangover from the Queen's reign that need to be tackled.
