Social media leaking news of POW hysterectomy

It goes without saying its only her business, however I found it odd that whilst 'doomscrolling' from sleeplessness I came across a couple of posts from US news sites claiming they had news obtained from 'Palace sources' posted onto SM.

We all know that KP is somewhat leaky but over something like this? (I suppose Maybe if the price was right?)
Or is it just speculation passed off as the truth?
Or, are US news sources avowed to publish info that uk ones aren't?

I'm not particularly interested in what she's had done, surgery is unpleasant, full stop, But I'm just wondering if there's a reason the story is in US but not uk news-if it even real ( which seems slightly unlikely I would think, but then you never know about anyone personal life).
Just found out odd and curious as to the whys

It might help if BP stopped the ridiculous speculation and announced what is going on. It’s only fuelling attention.

Edited

Agree with this..
Or..
As it's no one's buisness don't announce in the first that members of the Royal family are in hospital then Joe public would be none the wiser.
Does anyone really NEED to know.

Mummyratbag · 20/01/2024 14:52

@Crumpleton I think they had no choice as engagements had to be cancelled.

feellikeanalien · 20/01/2024 14:58

To those saying that BP should have kept quiet can you imagine the speculation when PW was seen driving into the hospital.

I'm no royalist but I feel sorry for her. Most people are just being nosy. Social media fuels all this. In the past there would have been a report on the news and in the papers and that would have been that.

What ever is wrong with her has absolutely no effect on anyone else apart from her family and all the prurient speculation is just gossip. I really don't think most people in the UK are sitting worrying about her out of genuine concern.

Things definitely do leak, though. My friend house-shared with a couple of therapeutic radiographers in the 1990s, I often heard which celebrities were being treated for cancer. A bit like the PP’s George Michael story.

When a mildly well-known person was hospitalised in my small town following a self-harm incident last year, word got around. Someone knew the tea lady’s auntie’s mate or something I suppose. Who knows. The person themself tweeted about it weeks later but I already knew.

Therefore, I’d say that it is very unlikely that Kate’s op isn’t being discussed in certain circles, let’s be honest. It’s not ok, but it’s the case.

@Reddog1 I agree with you. Her health should be private, but people do gossip. For the avoidance of doubt, I'm not condoning it, and unsure how to prevent it. The more people who know, the more the story leaks

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 20/01/2024 15:01

Not entirely true, especially if it involves a very high profile patient. George Michael had a diagnosis that was never made public or mentioned in the media but we found out at a house party with a lot of medical students, some of whom were working at the hospital where he was being treated

It's still a breach!! Those medical students should have known better and kept their gob's shut.

Gottseidank · 20/01/2024 15:04

Speaking as someone who had bulimia as a student and recovered, I see no evidence whatsover that Kate is bulimic - the claims about that are laughable.

As an aside, most bulimics are not particularly slim - I actually weighed more when I had the condition than before or since.

Whatever the condition is, it's none of our business and the speculation is disgraceful.

Christmasnutcracker · 20/01/2024 15:27

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 20/01/2024 08:14

What evidence? This is another vile theory I have seen floating around. I am waiting for the plasters on her fingers blah blah blah.

Look at her family, all very slim and toned women. Her being slim doesn't mean bulimia.

She isn't 'slim' Lets stop covering this. She is thin. Very thin.

Her sister is also thin but not as thin as Kate. We have all seen photos of Kate when she was younger (and in the best of health) and she had a fab figure compared to what she is today.

Normalising Kate's figure as 'naturally slim' and 'athletic' is not the right thing to do.

Zanatdy · 20/01/2024 15:32

When I was in the US once there was a magazine article confirming the Princess was pregnant. She wasn’t. It’s unbelievable what crap they are allowed to print

The police outside the entrance would have just made it obvious so yes they do need to announce it

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 20/01/2024 06:12

@CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk the fine publication that keeps track of Bat Boy and Elvis sightings would never falsely report a hysterectomy!

Indeed!

Elvis would never be associated with such disrespect - he adored the Royal Family.

That will be the last hake and chips (and pickled onion) that the particular reporter will ever get from him!

LlynTegid · 20/01/2024 15:43

It is about time that in the UK there was a proper privacy law. Medical conditions and treatment should be covered by it, we can debate what else in other threads perhaps.

With proper sanctions if convicted, such as a period without publication. If a daily newspaper is convicted, say no publication for a week or two.

Interviewq · 20/01/2024 15:45

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 20/01/2024 10:05

What evidence? Speculating like this about anyone - whether your neighbour, famous singer or the POW - is just vile.

Why is it more vile to suggest an ED or mental health related problem over a hysterectomy or physical problem?

The taboo around mental health is still strong.

Mummyratbag · 20/01/2024 15:49

Given the length of time she is in there I would be surprised if info didn't leak. Think of all the staff that come and go, other patients, visitors etc. It only takes one person to overhear something or put 2 and 2 together when they see a particular specialist or cotton on to something and mention it to someone else. Totally unacceptable, but human nature.

I have heard medical info about celebs/minor royals over the years (I don't work in a hospital) - I was shocked, but it was later confirmed in the press.

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 20/01/2024 15:59

StillCreatingAName · 20/01/2024 12:19

So, why don’t you share some detail of your own health scares, just a few headlines and we can all have a discussion about you and make guesses about what’s wrong with you? Leave us to it and you’re not allowed to come back on to ask for privacy. Does that sound good, fair and nice op?

I actually DID do this extensively a couple of weeks ago under a different user name...I was asking if any one could help fathom out why I had a kidney infection for 11 weeks which hasldn't responded to 8 lots of antibiotics and had any suggestions as i was getting nowhere and at the end of my tether... since you ask I can elaborate that it turned out after 2 days in a&e coming out last night I have damage to my ureters and pelvic organs which needs surgery...I posted in health asking if anyone could recommend surgeons.... I'm happy to discuss if you're that fascinated, and actually if it stopped people being given incorrect treatment for now 4 months it would be great if people were aware. Very happy to tell you what you want to know... kind of funny you ask when I've posted about it!

I've long thought that's the problem with medical students. A lot of them are only 18 and are no more mature and discreet and nice than the rest of us. A lot of the boys I went to school with went into medicine and I used to listen with absolute horror to the things they came out with. They actually put me off seeking medical attention for some things.

CoasttoCoastlines · 20/01/2024 16:04

Arent you just fanning the flames @CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk ?

The last people I'd expect to know these details would be someone in the US!

FWIW women don't have 10-14 days in hospital for that op and IMO (only) it's highly unlikely it's for that.

RaccoonOnTheSofa · 20/01/2024 16:11

I was slim growing up, then I slimmed down naturally to a size 2/4. I was quite skinny I guess. Nothing wrong with me, no ED, no medical issues, it just happened. I have quite thin parents and thin siblings. You wouldn’t believe the shit I had off people, it was disgusting. Skinny shaming is just as bad as fat shaming. Posts like yours insinuating there is something wrong with her are vile. Her body is her business, not yours to speculate on and say that it’s wrong to normalise her figure. You’ve got no idea. I cried often when random strangers would say things about my body. When I had kids my body went up a few sizes and now I’m 6/8, naturally. You don’t realise the damage you do by saying another woman’s body isn’t ‘normal’. It’s disgusting.

RaccoonOnTheSofa · 20/01/2024 16:12

Sorry, that was to @Christmasnutcracker. bodies come in different shapes and sizes, you need to drop your judgment and mind your own business

CupOfCoffeeandaPineappleChunk · 20/01/2024 16:12

I would think so too @CoasttoCoastlines. Although I was in personally for exactly 15 days myself following ábdo surgery because that was the length of the iv antibiotic course I needed to treat the acquired infection. I was exceedingly unlucky though, it's not standard and i woukdnt wish that on anyone.

I really was just wondering if it WAS likely to be a known thing and foreign sources just reported it whereas uk ones didn't. It was a question of are there different rules etc depending on where you are based. A couple of people have answered this question throughout the thread.

Absolutely, the students at that party should be ashamed of themselves using someone else’s health as gossip. And even if they just mouthed it or whatever, they were gossiping about a persons health simply because they were famous. How shameful.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 20/01/2024 16:19

As to references to "foreign press," I did a search for US news sources and came up with nothing other than what seems to be reported in UK outlets. Main stream US sources are not saying what the POW's health issues are.

Still chuckling at the notion that the National Enquirer is a prominent source of news in the US.

The unseemly speculation seems to be mainly on social media, including, of course, Mumsnet.

Over the years, the RF have had surgery that no one knows about (except it's been revealed years later and even then it's not 100% certain.)

There were rumours about the health of the late Queen Mother (I won't say what she was supposed to have) but at the time, no one knew- other than her hip ops.

I doubt very very much that anyone will 'leak' the information.

She will be kept in a very private space, there will be a few handpicked staff to care for her, and there will not be any gossiping in the corridors.
I expect only a very few people know what she is there for- namely her surgeon(s) and theatre/nursing staff. And her friends and family.

There will be a ring of steel of security there.

Note that the Palace did say she may make it known in the fullness of time.

It's a massive breach of GDPR.(data protection laws)

GDPR doesn’t cover verbal disclosures.

It also seems to be accepted that EVERYONE gets fatter as they age. Lots of women get slimmer and their faces angle out. They lose the chubby cheeks they had in their early 20s.
