I’d imagine the royals get better treatment than the rest of us. No in and out 24hrs after a hysterectomy (if that’s what she’s had done). Though she’s young for a hysterectomy……maybe it’s appendix but not returning to royal duties till Easter suggests something more than appendix.

An appendix is not a planned surgery.

OrangeVelour · 17/01/2024 21:20

How the bloody hell do you know?

Well there’s only 3 possibilities:

  1. they are Kate’s friend and are a shit friend for sharing that information
  2. They are Kate’s doctor and so have broken the law sharing that information.
  3. They don’t know at all and are bizarrely jealous that a woman had HG so bad she had to have her pregnancy announced probably far sooner than she was comfortable with

What could it possibly be?!

Bunnycat101 · 17/01/2024 21:22

Whatever it is, you can bet the world’s media are camped outside the hospital watching for her coming out, trying to pay staff for gossip etc. no-one would want that regardless of how much money you have. I’d have thought the only reason they announced was because someone got wind and was going to leak.

Newchapterbeckons · 17/01/2024 21:08

Well yes, she is the future Queen, and the mother of three children. I am finding the language from BP unnerving. I really think she is not in a good way.

Maybe you should find something else more productive to do, to take your mind off this then. That would be more beneficial for you, no doubt.

goodbyestranger · 17/01/2024 21:23

If they want to do minimal work and be 'parents' Karen then they should stop being grabby with all the taxpayer funding.

goodbyestranger · 17/01/2024 21:21

I know the symptoms of hg. And the difference between that and ordinary morning sickness which usually abates around the time Kate was out and about and clearly doing perfectly well. Apparently Carole got hysterical.

Were you there??

HG can be treated in hospital and doesn’t always last a whole pregnancy

I thought Kate was lazy and did hardly any engagements?

goodbyestranger · 17/01/2024 21:17

I mean the 'hyperemesis gravidarum' was a whole lot of rubbish. Kate had morning sickness - not pleasant but not the same as hg.

The next time I see a post on some thread or other telling us all that Kate never got the level of nastiness or abuse that Meghan got I will remember your posts along with the worst of the others on this thread, Despicable.

For the record, neither of them deserve the kind of nastiness shown here.

Karen your comment is just fucked up: to say a poster if jealous of hg.... Kate had ordinary morning sickness.

Absolutely. Be my guest.

Agree · 17/01/2024 21:29

It's probably a hysterectomy with possible bladder / colon work.

I was booted out of hospital after 5 days for similar and was in no way well enough to go home. So one would hope that the very best of treatment that money can pay for would ensure a proper recovery time and not the equivalent of NHS treatment.

Is that you Meg?

User3563573 · 17/01/2024 21:30

Kate has nerves of steel and fully understands what she signed up for. Not a royalist but I admire her personality for qualities that people want to have in a Queen. Just remember those photo-ops outside the hospital with full make-up, pantyhose and heels mere hours after giving birth. I think it was someone on MN who made the comment that the idea of wearing pantyhose right after birth is enough to make anyone run for the hills.

In this case it could (potentially) have been an opportunity to educate the public on a certain medical issue and quell speculation. But the wording of the statement makes it sound as if they don't want to disclose it for fear of their kids finding out third-hand information from other people. It sounds potentially more serious than a cosmetic surgery or ruptured appendix. As with all parents, they probably told the kids details of what doctors said regarding her specific case. If the diagnosis went public, then they'll have all kinds of friends and strangers telling them rubbish based on what they read on Google which is scary and unfair.

I suppose those symptoms might require abdominal surgery.

goodbyestranger · 17/01/2024 21:31

Don't be ridiculous JSMill it was well known at the time among journalists.

You might be surprised. Aviva used to have a royal warrant because they insured so many members of the royal family. Their warrant only disappeared because a decision was made that warrants could only be held by tradespeople rather than professions due to it being so commercially sensitive.

@HundredMilesAnHour Warrants are/were issued for the provision of goods or service services to the household. It doesn't mean the RF family member themselves utilises/ed it.

I knew there would be a thread speculating about this.

My cousin just had very major abdominal surgery with weeks of recovery and was out of hospital in four days. My father had the most major abdominal surgery you can have and was out in a week. So what on earth lands you in hospital for 10-14 days, I have to admit being curious. Usually they want you out as fast as possible due to the risk of hospital acquired infections.

She's not going to be 'at risk of infection' like the regular plebians tho is she?

The NHS have a problem with spread of infection because they have vast numbers of patients and a tiny nursing staff seeing to all of them. Also shared wards, shared bathrooms, grubby air exchange systems, poor cleaning standards etc.

Imagine the staff to patient ratio that Kate's going to get? And the cleanliness and privacy and high standards.

I don’t get this “Kate is lazy” schtick.

William and Kate have clearly learnt from generations before them that shit, absent parenting in the RF has a damaging effect. They state clearly that they wish to enjoy raising their kids alongside engagements.

Last year Kate carried out 134 engagements, William 175. That’s around the equivalent of a 3 day week for her and a 4 day week for him (if you took 4 weeks annual leave into account). Would people they were rather shitty parents like the Queen was? Barely seeing her children in the pursuit of ‘duty’?

I can't help but think when I read this that there are a lot of people on this forum who would love to be able to choose a 3/4 day week between them. That really is privilege.

Of course she's going to be at risk of infection. Her body doesn't work any differently than anyone else's just because she's royal. Anyone entering a hospital, no matter how private and fancy, is at risk of a hospital acquired infection. That's just the reality these days.
