At least I wouldn’t have a hissy fit about a family member using my name - that truly is unpleasant.

It’s hard for us to know exactly why that choice was made, and what message it was intended to send. It might of course have been a simple message of how much Elizabeth meant to Harry.

Given it came from a couple who had felt the need to publicly clap back at statements made by the Queen herself that she didn’t own the word “Royal” and that “service is universal” it’s also quite possible that it was a vindictive choice to show her she didn’t own her family nickname either.

If it’s true that the person involved and who knew what was really going on was unhappy rather than flattered, it suggests the latter is closest to the truth.

Thank you, @Serenster - I didn't know any of that. So, for example, Meghan and Harry authorising Knauf to talk, he broke no agreement? I've always wondered what these NDAs were about.

Yes, it you are expressly or impliedly authorised by your employer to share details, there is no breach of your NDA obligations.

A very low level example - I have an NDA as part fo my job. But from time to time I get invited to talk at professional gatherings about particular aspects of my job. I have to get specific approval internally to do this. But once it’s cleared, I can talk about what I am working on (in general terms, obviously!)

derxa · 16/01/2024 18:31

but instead has made the queen look pathetically petty. Own goal. Have you ever heard the term RIP. The Queen no longer needs to cope with all this shite. She's like many elderly people. She died quite quickly after being widowed. If she was tetchy I don't blame her.

Daisyislazy · 16/01/2024 18:32

Perhaps they just thought it was a nice gesture

( no I haven't read the whole thread as I can't be bothered)

That tells us all we need to know

A book about Queen Elizabeth II published by Gyles Brandreth in 2022 seemed to reinforce the Sussexes' version of events. According to Brandreth, the Queen didn't mind having a granddaughter named Lilibet. “I hear they're calling her 'Lili,' which is very pretty and seems just right,” Brandreth quotes her as saying

And he is really in with the Royals.
What a fuss about nothing.

wildernesssw · 16/01/2024 19:10

Well, yes, the way I read it, any annoyance wasn't about the name, but about publicising private conversations (or lack of them)

It was all to.distract us from Andrew. A little kids name vs sex trafficking and people take the bait. It made the Queen look petty.

It’s funny, Harry shares stuff, dreadful, how dare he invade their privacy.
an unnamed aide who may or may not exist, shares something, every one believes it and says it’s fine.
odd

I don’t think it was fine. Does anyone?

AliceOlive · 16/01/2024 19:15

How on earth has it distracted from things already reported and released weeks ago?

Exactly but that doesn’t make for a good cudgel so the fan base will ignore that and make it all about something else.

Gosh, how prescient of the publishers to commission the book, the author to research and write it and for it to be published just in time to be in the press after the Epstein redactions were released. Which wasn’t known about more than a few weeks in advance.

Or, it’s just a coincidence in timing.

orchardgirl4 · 16/01/2024 19:23

I agree with the other posters, it's a distraction tactic rolled out by the Daily Fail because of Andrew being in the news again 'Epstein court files damage Prince Andrew’s hopes of restoring reputation'

Lockupyourbiscuits · 16/01/2024 19:24

I think someone thought Lilibet was a great name when the Queen signed her note on Philip’s coffin Lilibet - it was seen as a poignant private moment to most people

Someone else saw it as something else - an opportunity to monetise and build on that poignant image -

i think after the wound of Philip dying ( after being trashed on his deathbed so callously) it was a double wound for them to thoughtlessly take their private nickname

whether done with greed or petty nastiness who knows but I can see how it would hurt

Very true.

And it doesn't mean she was happy about 'Lilibet' being used. Maybe she was, maybe she wasn't. But I suspect that she had reached the age where you realise that you don't have much say over the decisions of other people. You can hope they take your feelings into account, but if they don't it is not worth spending time and energy on.

Let's face it, Harry's other actions showed he didn't consider the feelings of other family members' feelings as important as telling 'his truth'.

So there was no reason to think naming his daughter would be any different.

Lockupyourbiscuits · 16/01/2024 19:29

Pretty sure she was going to be called Diana until they saw the note on Philip’s coffin

StormzyinaTCup · 16/01/2024 19:48

I think the fact that 'Lilibet' hasn't been used by any other member of the RF's offspring speaks for itself really.

"Frothing" 😂

Sorry to break it to you, but H&M's unpopularity has been confirmed by pretty much every poll undertaken by anyone at all for years, in the US, UK, Aus etc

The small (but admittedly vocal) minority notwithstanding

Yes frothing and hysterical hyperbole regard H&M, fuelled by daily mail and piers

endless puff pieces about radiant, ethereal and homely Kate.
Compare with the frothing & hysteria about H&M and their dastardly ways

Oh behave - she was one of the most powerful women in the world, lived a life of privilege and happily paid off her sons accuser. Stop infantilising her.
