Behind the Scenes at the Coronation - Boxing Day

I love things that go behind the scenes at special events or show how TV programmes are made, or explain stuff I don't know about how stuff is organised. I'm the person who watches behind the scenes clips on YouTube! I know it won't be completely candid because the cameras are there but I'm still looking forward to it.

So I thought I'd start a fun thread asking what burning but trivial question would you like to see the answer to?

Mine - do royals have bladders of iron or do they build secret loo breaks into the schedule of big events?

It was wonderful but I think the sisters comment at the end regarding Camilla not being a person who has huge highs and lows was unfortunate.

I didn't associate that comment with Diana at all. I thought it was a reference to how she manages Charles! I'm sure I've read elsewhere that he can be quite emotional and she is often the calming presence he needs.

I looked on iplayer for this programme. I found Behind the Scenes at the Coronation but couldn't figure out why none of the bits mentioned on this thread were in it. It's because that's a different programme. The one being discussed here is Charles III: The Coronation Year. Just thought I'd clarify for anyone else wanting to find it! I'm enjoying it immensely! The behind the scenes one was interesting too though.

That was my mistake, I didn't know what the title was when I posted!

Just watched on iplayer as nobody else here would be interested. I loved it. The embroidery was so beautiful. Not a single mention of the King's younger son, I noticed, but frankly who can blame them.

I loved all the crafty bits, the embroidery, the cap that goes inside the crowns and adding bits of gold back into the crown to make it fit. It's good that old skills still have a place.

I think there are some people who will uncritically approve of Charles and the RF, and equally there are some who will always find something to criticise (often the faults we all have as human beings)

I thought it was quite touching, they seem a close family. Who have had their disagreements, as do we all with our families.

Incogg · 27/12/2023 16:42

I have just started watching. Very struck at how the photographer is talking to Charles and Camilla. He kissed her twice, he's manhandling them both... I remember when you couldn't even ask a monarch a question!

🤣all these years on and I’m still shouting adulterous wanker or trollop at the screen if I’m unlucky enough to see their smug faces before I turn the telly off ! I shall click back in when William takes over .

Well past time you grew up then.

I loved the interview with the Liverpudlian guys who had changed their lives with the help of the Princes Trust. It's an amazing charity. My dh recently paid for a table at a Prince's Trust gala (with company money obviously. He said an American guest at the table couldn't believe that the King had founded this charity and the impact it had made.

That was one of my favourite bits too.

This was my understanding of it too. Especially as it was about C&C's relationship specifically.

They were basically saying that's he's moody and she's calm.

megletthesecond · 27/12/2023 17:41

The inner part of the crowns that Philip Treacy made are called 'the cap of maintenance'.

It's weird, isn't it? As if marriages don't break down in the Real World.

There's a post recently on the board that referred to Camilla as Charles' 'ex-mistress' - aka as his wife of a couple of decades

A very clear agenda that doesn't (I hope) reflect the way that posters behave towards the people in their own lives who make mistakes in their relationships, and learn from their mistakes and move on

It's totally bizarre how people overlook the fact he's been married to Camilla for nearly 19 years and his marriage to Diana lasted only 11 years before they separated. Yet somehow his relationship Camilla still doesn't count!

CarolinaInTheMorning · 27/12/2023 19:25

They were basically saying that's he's moody and she's calm.

I understood it more to mean that Charles is emotional and Camilla is more on an even keel. They had previously shown a clip of the Archbishop saying one of the prayers for the King from the service and Charles very visibly had tears in his eyes-- and this was just the rehearsal.

It had nothing at all to do with Diana.

Hilarious

IF that's really how you behave its odd to say the least. Certainly not something I'd admit to - if I was over 10

Fraudornot · 27/12/2023 20:37

Camilla is eternally awkward isn’t she? Always seems slightly dazed and like she can’t work out what to say

CarolinaInTheMorning · 27/12/2023 20:50

Camilla is eternally awkward isn’t she?

Not at all. I do think she was a bit nervous at the coronation, but generally she comes across to me as warm and engaging.

Fraudornot · 27/12/2023 21:11

She hardly speaks when she meets people!

JSMill · 27/12/2023 21:33

Fraudornot · 27/12/2023 21:11

She hardly speaks when she meets people!

Absolute nonsense. She is clearly a real people person.

Maireas · 27/12/2023 21:47

Did you see her recently at the children's Christmas tea party? Chatting to the centenarian soldier on that documentary? Very chatty and friendly. I think, understandably, the Coronation must have been a bit overwhelming and she was more muted.

I think its more the manner in how the marriage broke up. Diana was 19 and obviously vulnerable and he treated her like brood mare whilst still seeing Camilla. I absolutely loathe them. He's got connections to several paedophiles and he was involved in the cash for honours. His brother was back in the fold at Christmas so I'm assuming he's got something Charles. I haven't watched the programme. It's all one big publicity stunt.
