but given how clumsy their PR team seems to be I can well believe that they would brief the DM with a bullshit story about how much they suddenly love Malborough.

So how should the PR team spin it?

goodbyestranger · 01/01/2024 22:12

Much better just to stfu about stuff but that's not their style. Just like all the Rose Hanbury bullshit. Pics of Rose Hanbury at church at Sandringham having a lovely time etc. I mean who do they think they're kidding?

goodbyestranger · 01/01/2024 22:13

So how should the PR team spin it?

Just don't brief lame stories?

Boris is a scammer, a flim flam man, a chancer and a blagger who will say whatever is expedient at the time to whomsoever he is addressing. This requires some self-serving intelligence but is not an appropriate way to govern any country. Which is where I came in. Our recent government has been full of Eton educated charlatans who have proved to be a poor advertisement for their school. As previously mentioned, given the examples which have been on public display for the last 11? years, it would come as no surprise if the Waleses were considering other options for their sons.

Hear hear! Eton seems to me to be a completely unsuitable school for future prime ministers, judging by the past PMs and MPs who have been educated there. It seems like an anachronism.

goodbyestranger · 01/01/2024 22:31

What would your criticism be of Rory Stewart?

newnamethanks · 01/01/2024 22:32

It is an anachronism. And even better, its a charity. One of the first community benefits of the National Lottery was a £1million bung to Eton - a charity - for a new swimming pool. Need not greed you understand.

stillavid · 02/01/2024 06:37

I am not sure the RF briefed about Marlborough - it was certainly common knowledge because you know Marlborough is a small town and royal visits tend to be quite noticeable.

Also most yr 6 children looking to board for yr9 are looking at several schools and many hold offers for a couple and make a final decision very late in year 8.

CurlewKate · 02/01/2024 09:54

I am no apologist for Eton- but labelling all Etonians as thick is just ridiculous. Or Tory, for that matter. Justin Welby and George Orwell are two examples of people who are neither. Hugh Laurie and Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall (I think) are also Old Etonians.

wildernesssw · 02/01/2024 09:58

I think you have to specify which era you're talking about before you can try and characterise! And even then it will be a sweeping generalisation...

Araminta1003 · 02/01/2024 09:59

Also lots of famous actors etc Damian Lewis, Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston, Bear Grylls. I bet there are plenty of musicians too. And of course the author of the Bond series Ian Fleming.

Roussette · 02/01/2024 10:04

I am no apologist for Eton- but labelling all Etonians as thick is just ridiculous.

Which is why no one has on this thread at all.

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2024 10:13

Exactly. Just the one person in 2009.

newnamethanks · 02/01/2024 10:17

It would be ridiculous to state that Eton schoolboys are thick. And equally ridiculous to keep on insisting it has been said in spite of evidence to the contrary. Truth twisting isn't helpful.

newnamethanks · 02/01/2024 10:19

Actors and musicians eh? As long as they're not running the country I care not.

Araminta1003 · 02/01/2024 10:47

“As long as they're not running the country I care not.”

It is a democracy, people vote for their MP and the party elects the leader. The public need to only vote for MPs that they would be happy to run the country. The public voted for Brexit. Blame the general educational level of the general public and the right wing press’ power and ability to manipulate, but not sure what 1 particular school can take so much of the blame. You are acting like Eton College gave birth to Boris Johnson and then spat him out to immediately run the country.

Minutewaltz · 02/01/2024 10:55

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2024 10:13

Exactly. Just the one person in 2009.

Yes you’ve made your point several times.
I apologise - you are right and I am wrong.

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2024 11:03

Thanks for that Minutewaltz.

And to be fair to you, in relation to your other assertion in that same post, several people on this thread have actually made the very valid point about the rf collectively being really not bright at all.

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2024 11:04

So you were right about that :)

Araminta1003 · 02/01/2024 13:52

Yes keep claiming that @goodbyestranger but Kate Middleton did well academically and these are her children too. Plus both Kate and William did art A level and well in that, so I suspect the royal children could be really arty; I assume they have the best art teachers at their disposal as well. Kate did Maths and English at A level and achieved well and those are academic subjects. I bet she is really quite intelligent.

Just as Meghan is far from stupid either. You don’t get into Northwestern without being intelligent.

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2024 14:26

I'm not alone in claiming it Araminta1003. Kate Middleton did modestly at A level after an incredibly expensive, spoon fed education. Since then she's shown no drive or independence (ten years with pretty much no job) and nothing she's ever said or written suggests a sparkling wit. I'm not clear why Meghan Markle is relevant but she clearly is far brighter than her SIL.

Mylovelygreendress · 02/01/2024 14:30

Catherine got into St Andrews Uni - not easy .
And I totally disagree that Meghan is particularly clever !

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2024 14:33

Getting into St Andrews for HoA isn't/ wasn't especially difficult Mylovelygreendress.

Mylovelygreendress · 02/01/2024 14:44

goodbyestranger · 02/01/2024 14:33

You are wrong however I am not going to argue with you as your condescending attitude is pissing me off .

Araminta1003 · 02/01/2024 14:45

“Kate Middleton did modestly at A level”- that is complete nonsense. She got an A in Maths, and A in art and a B in English. There were no A stars in those days so she literally had just dropped one grade in English. That is far from doing “modestly”. She did well. It is potentially A star, A star and A in today’s currency. Before she got into St Andrew’s she had an offer from Edinburgh which is arguably the best uni in Scotland.

It is like a jealous person saying Kate Middleton isn’t beautiful.

Araminta1003 · 02/01/2024 14:46

I rest my case. Both Kate M and Meghan M are beautiful and intelligent women and many are jealous of them.
