This makes sense, because in the early days of promoting the book, a few months back, I think he said he would be naming names.

The Dutch journalist who broke the story said there are two paragraphs missing from the English version that are clearly in the Dutch one. That is NOT a translation error. No professional translator is going to add two entirely new paragraphs that they'll know to be massively libellous.

It does make sense if it was the two people left, as Harry has reserved most of his vitriol gor them. The falling out between the brothers is so severe that it had to be about something pretty major. I could imagine if William had major qualms about Meghan, he could have blurted something out in desperation or frustration. Harry, who was brought up in the RF has made racist remarks in the past and thought nothing of it so it wouldn't surprise me, given their social circles and upbringing if any of them had issues with bloodlines. I don't know anything about Charles really but from what I do know ( Princes Trust etc) he would be the most surprising person to me. I bet Meghan and Harry want it all to go away. The thing is, it sounds like Meghan heard it third hand from Harry, who find not clarify what he heard during or even after the Oprah interview but then said it wasn't racism so he's made his wife look like a liar and him stupid.

It was all planned I’m sure, no edition error, no translation error, the 3 of them just wanted to get the names out there by circumnavigating UK laws, no doubt all three are absolutely thrilled at how clever they are……for now.

Except I’m not sure people really care anymore. It’s all gone off the boil and too many people don’t like H&M as people (although there is interest in a rubber necking kind of way). I for one could not care less that names are out in the public, I still have more sympathy for the RF for having to endure all the horrible backstabbing of these two very privileged, pampered and unpleasant people (and absolutely no one cares about Scabies other than maybe his mother).

Now that there are names floating around I think it would be only fair to a: confirm or not that these are the people H&M were referring to and b: say what it is that they are supposed to have actually said.

Naming them as racists but without giving anyone the chance to judge whether what they said was racist or could have been reasonable seen as such is unfair.

Dutch laws still apply though! Scobie and his publisher can be sued in the Dutch courts because that's where the names were published. And their defamatory laws are stricter than ours. It would be a very expensive gamble to get the names out there, which is why I don't think it was deliberate.

One statement over what was said, the context and the people who said it would put this to bed once and for all. One statement

Beautifully put, ArcaneWireless - only thing is any statement would be valueless unless it was honest, and I'm not convinced any of them are capable of that

I do think this has only really damaged future relations amongst the royals rather than the public. In Omid trying to vilify the royals he’s achieved less chance of reconciliation especially with the brothers. There’s now an awkwardness for media outlets to report because of the naming and those who do care have pretty much picked sides anyway.

But he must have produced a version that has names in it at some point, if he is the sole author, because that's the only way the Dutch translator would know the names. So at some point, he must have passed around a version with the names in it. I don't think a translator would or could fill in the gaps of an oblique reference to the names in the original - because the translator shouldn't know the names in order to do the filling in.*

I agree, the chances of such an aberration are far fetched. This was the most explosive part of the book, all jurisdictions knew it. There's no way that an old version somehow ended up being translated - and if it was, well that proves Omid did write a version at some point with the names in, and his statement on Dutch TV is not accurate.

*Nobody on OS's side has come out saying the people named are incorrect.

That must be a complete lie unless he's claiming that someone is setting him up. Surely the Dutch publisher could confirm or deny this.

It could of course mean that at some stage there were edits made by someone other than Scobie.

But as that would have to be someone who knew the names, I'm not sure it's a tenable theory.

I found this too, when I was in Canada. I was there regularly over a period of several years. As soon as you tell them you’re from the UK, they start talking about the RF and the elderly speak of G, C & L as though they’re much loved grandchildren. I thought it was lovely. I always have a little smile when it’s asserted on some of these threads that Canadians and other commonwealth members are desperate to get away from having a King/Queen as their monarch/head and can’t stand the RF. Obviously can’t speak for everyone but that has never been my experience.

Well regardless of who did what it is now quite obvious that H&M have been disclosing to other people, whether Scobie or other "friends", the contents of the letter between Charles and Meghan.

I imagine Charles must be quite upset by this and particularly hypocritical of Meghan considering the fuss she made about the contents of the letter to her father being disclosed.

The whole thing is pathetic and I wouldn't blame the RF if they cut H&M off completely now. How could any of them ever be sure that something spoken about in private or in correspondence wouldn't end up in some seedy book or splashed all over the tabloids.

Even if H%M weren't directly involved in this book they are the only people this information could have come from. I really doubt any reconciliation is possible now. I doubt that they foresaw this outcome when briefing Scobie but this is what happens when you spill family secrets to dodgy journalists.

If they are shown to have co operated with this book then the whole unedifying spectacle adds credence to the bullying accusations against the pair of them. The tone is frankly nasty , spiteful and bullying rather like the spiteful way H spoke about his former school matron. They deserve each other frankly.

I suspect PW will be apoplectic and whilst silence is probably the wisest option this may be enough to tip him over the edge into legal action , especially if he could take action outside the U.K. where some of the libel laws are stronger . I also feel incredibly sorry for the poor translator who is now being dragged through the mud .

It's interesting that Scobie has written a book called 'Endgame' which is apparently predicting the downfall of the British royal family yet that book has been translated into many languages around the world, including Dutch. The Netherlands has its own monarchy but apparently there's a market there to read about the British royal family. Personally I have no interest in the monarchy of any other country because they aren't very interesting. Our royal family is apparently. Scobie is making money off the global fascination with the royal family.It doesn't feel like we are looking at the end of a dynasty.

Let's be honest, if covid hadn't happened in early 2020, they would have got a LOT more global attention.
People ran out of patience with their histrionics pretty quickly once actual, real Important things were happening.
I'm no fan of the BRF at all, and Kate wearing a £10k necklace when Zoom calling nhs workers to thank them during the pandemic struck me as totally tone deaf but 🤷‍♀️
I imagine H is in full on panic mode...his whole life he was protected from his stupid utterances and racist actions by the very Palace "grey men" he now appears to loathe.
I imagine M is realising that he is a bear of very little brain. He's also, like all Windsor men, not ageing too well.

So this alleged "mistake" of names reportedly being included in the Dutch version which lots are getting vexed about ...

I don't know why I bothered, but from various sources all I can see are claims that names were revealed - so were they or not, and if not, isn't it possible this whole farce is just intended to attract attention and sales?

There are screenshots of the pages from the Dutch version of the book alongside translations so whilst it might be a farce to attract attention the story of the names being in the book isn't untrue.
