George's exams

Kate is not going with william to Singapore as George has important exams. What exams would a 10 year old be sitting in November?
I know nothing about private school systems so hoping someone here does.

It’s the ISEB, the first part of the process for getting a place at Eton. He’ll be doing exams in verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths and English.

everetting · 02/10/2023 14:55

Thanks. So he will go to Eton next year then.

ISEB

All prep school pupils will be doing it if they want to go to a private secondary school at either 11 or 13

No, it’s a bit more drawn out. He won’t start at Eton until he’s 13. The next stage will be spring next year where he’ll do some more exams and have an interview and if he’s successful in that, he can take the Common Entrance Exam, passing which will secure his place.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/10/2023 14:58

11+ exams? Selection exams for his senior school. Although…..he’s not going to be rejected it’s he.

No, if he goes to Eton, it will be when he is 13 as the school takes boys from year 9 onwards

Part of the application process to ALL private secondary schools is the ISEB results. Other schools, including Eton, will also have their own entrance exams on top.

Tiredchicken · 02/10/2023 14:59

As if Eton are going to turn him down 😂

cellarst · 02/10/2023 14:59

If they let Harry in I'm sure George will make the grade!

FirstFallopians · 02/10/2023 15:00

I would’ve thought the exams were a bit of a formality given his future position.

Is it not all lip service on behalf of the school- they’re hardly going to turn away a future king are they, regardless of his results.

everetting · 02/10/2023 15:01

So young children have three years of exam to go to a named secondary school?
I know Kate has no control over the process, but it seems a ridiculously long process for young children.
Why can't they do it all when they are 11?

SATS exams ?- although I don't know when they are.

LizziesTwin · 02/10/2023 15:03

The idea is that they don’t discover at 13 that they can’t go to their first choice.

They might want him to go to Marlborough like his mum as it’s mixed.

Angrycat2768 · 02/10/2023 15:03

I wonder if George knows it doesn't really matter if he fails? It's hard enough to motivate kids at the best of times without them knowing that they could just write their name on the front of the paper and get a pass!

They seem to be focussing on Eton. Maybe they know something we don’t know about the schools plans for admitting girls.

everetting · 02/10/2023 15:07

I am surprised at the system. I know my children changed a lot between 10 and 13, so I could easily imagine my DD failing the exam at 10, but passing an age equivalent exam at 13.

He’s probably astute enough to work it out but I imagine his upbringing and education so far have instilled a decent work ethic of taking pride in one’s work so he’s unlikely to deliberately make a pigs ear of it.

gotomomo · 02/10/2023 15:10

Depends on whether they want him to board. Many former boarders don't want their kids to

wishiwasidisneyland · 02/10/2023 15:10

Not really the point of the thread but lots of private schools don't use the IESB!

No at 13+.

WorldofKnitting · 02/10/2023 15:13

Wonder which schools he's applying to!

LIZS · 02/10/2023 15:15

Places are often provisional offers, depending on scores achieved in Common Entrance tests in year 8. However many private schools are moving away from CE and simply make deferred offers based on I.sEB or pretests, or offer their own entrance tests.

everetting · 02/10/2023 15:17

@phos he may personally care about doing well. But either other royals did not care about their exams, or they are not very bright.
Personally I think it would be more down to individual personality.

Does Eton use it?

Maybe they are considering several apart from Eton?
