The Duke and Duchess of Sussex at the Invictus Games 2023

Most of the Invictus threads seem to be filling up, or focused on fairly parochial issues, so I thought, now that Meghan is in Dusseldorf, I would lead us off with a general new thread about Harry and Meghan at Invictus 2023.

Some initial thoughts from me.

The UK tabloid narrative about how much Harry and Meghan are loathed globally is blown apart by the warm and rousing welcome they both received, both separately and together. So the UK tabloids have to dig deep to write eye-rollingly silly stories about Harry being "humiliated" because he did not score a goal during a fun, light-hearted TV appearance to promote the Games.

Invictus clearly means everything to Harry, and it is lovely to see Meghan supporting him, and to remember that it was at Invictus in Toronto that they first went public. The event must have such lovely memories for them both.

The Nigerians have really lit up the tournament. A Kenyan senator who met Harry last week posted on X that she would work on Kenya to be the next African team.

After everything in the last year, it's so lovely to see that Invictus is getting bigger, that Harry is as committed as he has always been to the Games he started, and that Meghan is there to support the veterans, and her husband.

Hopefully, reasonable people will see this post for what it is.

And that’s all I’ll say on it.

But you could argue that about anything Kate M attends. Whenever she goes to anything there are more headlines about her hair and clothing than there ever are about which ever cause she’s there on behalf of.

That poster is infamous for such posts about H&M. I pity her and ignore.

I think some people are just determined to find fault and because there’s none to be found, they’re grasping at straws.

As much as it pains me to comment on her clothes (I don’t own her), she is dressing appropriately for the occasion. It’s not her fault she’s wears casual chic so well.
The top she wore at the birthday dinner sold out within an hour. It isn’t anything fancy, it’s just that there are people who enjoy her fashion choices.

That’s ok. It really isn’t anything to get so angry and wound up about.

the brown satin shirt and trousers she wore was for meeting the group from NATO. Harry wore a suit jacket for the meeting. I can see why they dressed up for that bit. I just thought how lovely she looked, as she always does.

Exactly. I can't be arsed to reply to anyone who thinks she ought to have been in trackie bottoms and a logo T shirt the whole week.
The posts speak for themselves! Women should hide away and not draw attention to themselves or feel comfortable in their clothes because to wear skinny jeans, flats and a vest top is A Very Bad Thing to do

I've seen some great footage today, I don't know how to share videos but all these kids were running after Harry and Meghan :) they're very popular with young people.

Including people like Roger Federer and Billie Jean King. For what it's worth I think Kate has too many coat dresses and the like. It seems a bit wasteful

So true! I know some people who dislike Meghan but they are they biggest buyers of tabloids and listen to various Meghan centered YouTube channels, they really can't help themselves.

Whenever they complain that she should go away, I tell them to stop buying those rags and watching videos about her because it feeds the machines but they don't seem to want that. I've had some tell me she's controlling the media, it's hard to reason with some people when they are so obsessed.

I think you have critiqued her appearance before? As a pp said there's a dress code in the royal box, don't think there is ring side in stadiums tbh.

Try not to turn everything into a Markle hating thing, it really isn't. It's about IG and the focus should be on that not her many outfits.

I don't always like the tea dress type style she has worn but I only say this in the context of imagining me wearing it and looking awful 😂

Actually tell that to the poster questioning you! If she wants it on the vets she should give her attention to them and not what Meghan is wearing!

He left bbecause e didn't get his own way. They get no more scrutiny than any member of the rf. Well, more now but it is well deserved criticism due to his relentless media blabbing.

They would know the media would of course take pictures, why change outfits repeatedly?! If they wore appropriate sports event clothes the media wouldn't feature the many clothes changes. Oh wait, perhaps they enjoy it afterall. Who knew.

Or Kate at rugby, or Kate at football, or Kate at swimming.

No one forces the tabloids to write incessantly about what these women wear, their hair, makeup or how much their clothes or jewels cost. They do it because they know people like you will moan about it and make them money. No one's stopping the 'reporters' from writing about the actual initiatives.

Kate went to visit a women's prison and they wrote about her new hair and plasters and funny faces. Hardly her fault.

Meghan came in the middle of the event and the British media was near mum until she arrived. Hardly her fault.

Meghan and Kate can wear what they want. If you care so much stop whinging on MN and post them a letter telling them to change their shoes and wear polos. I look forward to the results!

Yes. There is no point criticising them for taking the focus off the vets when it is the media that is showing no interest in the media. If it wasn't Harry's thing, there would be no coverage at all. When Meghan isn't there, it's all 'Meghan abandons Harry/Are they getting divorced?' and when she is there she is taking attention from Harry. Its ridiculous. Is she wearing many outfits or is she at different events? Casual outfit for sitting in stadium, dressed up for meeting dignitaries and different outfit for dinner with her husband!

Omg. Weirder and weirder. I think it's very odd to refer to people currently alive as rolling in their graves and speculate on their coffins but here we are.
