One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

I think you might need to calm down, asterdaisy!

If you actually read my post, I never said that you said his position was untenable. I quoted your words saying that the president of the FA skipping the final [can’t be spun]. Which I’m sure you agree you did say? You also referred that as “indefensible”.

Another poster up thread had said William’s position was untenable. I was saying that these attitudes - that a line has been crossed that there is no coming back from here, if you like, which was one of the themes of many of the posts on this thread - are somewhat overblown, and it’s not any of the posters’ call to make in any event.

Surely it’s a bit early to be acting so aggressively?

Iwantcakeeveryday · 22/08/2023 09:27

Theres been a lot of aggression on this thread alright, but its not from @asterdaisy

MrsFinkelstein · 22/08/2023 09:28

@Serenster we all know its never too early to froth aggressively on this forum!

Novella4 · 22/08/2023 09:30

Argue about semantics all you like it’s only distraction from the fact that it’s clear that William is not as popular has he ( William ) thought .

The number of ‘meh’ people will have been reduced . The monarchy has survived thus far due to large numbers of ‘meh’ people in the UK . That is the real danger , not life long republicans like me .

It really isn’t about the football . William not turning up to the final was a touch stone which woke people up .

No doubt he’ll stage a kick about with the team when they return but it won’t matter . It will make it worse . People will see the manipulation

asterdaisy · 22/08/2023 09:32

@Serenster you quoted me and then referred to untenable. The implication was that I had said that.
Please don't patronise me by telling me to calm down.

Wasnt it lucky that all the heat was on William yesterday so it was a good day to quietly confirm that there’s nothing to see here re Charles and bags of cash ?

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2023/aug/21/met-police-no-further-action-cash-for-honours-claims-king-charity-princes-foundation

The timing of that is unbelievable.

I’ve clarified that I wasn’t suggesting you had said that. If you inferred that, you were mistaken.

If you are going to tag a poster and then say “I dare you” I’m afraid you run the risk of it being seen as aggression.

asterdaisy · 22/08/2023 09:35

They are so bad at PR.
I hadn't realised William and Charlotte had recorded a message last year. For most people that went under the radar. But doing it this year after William non action just looks like a publicity stunt. As will anything else william does with the lionesses n the next few months.

this is such a good point. posters have been trying to shut others up with cries of but you don't like football"
I detest football with good reason. but that doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on wether the president of the FA should have gone or not.

asterdaisy · 22/08/2023 09:36

@Serenster maybe calm down and not assume anyone tagging you is being aggressive? Maybe you need to step away from this thread?

Iwantcakeeveryday · 22/08/2023 09:40

@Samcro yes and the thing is, more and more people are watching the women's football, highest viewer figures for this, so there will be people new to football, some who will only be following womens, so it isn't the best response from long-time fans to berate anyone talking about it now or indeed insist that they don't really care.

Novella4 · 22/08/2023 09:45

@asterdaisy

I’m wondering if the video was pre recorded and labelled ‘ use if the plebs get restless’. Meanwhile Willy is on a yacht somewhere

’Royals’ should be made to hold up the newspaper lol for their videos and photos .
Remember last year - all the photos ( birthdays , anniversary, Christmas ) done on the same day ( don’t tell me - they are SO BUSY it was the only time they could manage it )

Something so strange about that .

CathyorClaire · 22/08/2023 10:44

I think this is an excellent point even though the outcome of the inquiry was always tiresomely predictable.

The video was all over the media. A quick Google shows this

MamoruHisaishi · 22/08/2023 12:35

I have a feeling this will all blow over soon. William and Kate have faced greater controversies than these, and they've reacted calmly amidst backlash and pressure. Regarding Australians reacting negatively towards William, if/when the Wales (and possibly their children) go to Australia on a charm offensive tour, all this will be forgotten. William (and Kate) is still more immensely liked than Charles and the rest of the royals, including harry. What this controversy does show is that, contrary to the claims by some that the media is in the back pocket of William in order to make him look good, they clearly aren’t and will turn on him on a whim as what’s happened here and the tour in the Caribbean.

Roussette · 22/08/2023 12:56

@MamoruHisaishi
The article I posted at 08.03 this morning sort of says that.

LimeCheesecake · 22/08/2023 13:19

No doubt it will blow over. But they are going to have to go on a charm offensive just to get back to where they were before the summer. Not good for a couple famed for being reluctant to do a lot of engagements.

he’s going to be in a pickle should the men’s team do well. If the men’s team make the final of the World Cup or euros, if he doesn’t go to that will be another “Lazy Willy” story, and this would be brought up again. But if he does go, it’ll be seen as proof that he’s sexist as wouldn’t make the effort for the women’s team he’ll make for the men’s and he’s supposed to be president of the English FA to support both equally.

the obvious solution would be to step down as President of the FA. I’m not sure who you’d get to do it though, Edward maybe? They might have to have a non-royal.

Iwantcakeeveryday · 22/08/2023 13:54

@LimeCheesecake definitely no royals in the role. If the position is more t raise profile and encourage support, attend matches etc, someone with more time to dedicate to it and more of a link, would be more appropriate.

Crikey bloody GB News sticking the boot in..... the gammons want their Royals to scrub up and do their bit, so their paymasters can hollow out the country whilst waving the flag. If they don't do their 'job' the establishment worry that the anger will turn on them next.

@vera99 GB news regularly stick the boot into everyone. You can get whiplash trying to keep up with who they choose to aim at - it changes on the hour depending on the host.

It's not a new thing at all.

Samcro · 22/08/2023 16:15

@vera99 what is a "gammon"?

I'll take your word for it on the few occasions I have watched it it makes we want to take a shower.

Oh yes. And GBNews are always very pro Monarchy and anti H&M so this is surprising for them.
They've done 'People's Polls' to prove everyone thinks the Monarchy is just marvellous ignoring the fact that those that watch GBN are mostly Royalists.....

Samcro · 22/08/2023 16:54

So a horrible insult.
