One again, William's neglecting women's football. The Lionesses made history. It is the first time that the English team (male or female) reached the World Cup final since 1966. We all know that if the men had reached the final, he would've been there and probably would've brought George with him.

Queen Letizia and her daughter Sofia will be attending. What's William's excuse? You are président of the Football Association.

This is really disappointing but I'm not really surprised. The young generation of royals are such a joke compared to previous generations. Yes, the Queen’s children had their controversies but when it comes to royal work, they always got the job done.

Prince William will not attend World Cup final to watch Lionesses

Prince William will be watching England's first final since 1966 on the television and will not fly to Australia to see the Lionesses compete, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

Can you please stop following me around the boards calling my posts condescending, @Iwantcakeeveryday ? It seems to be a personal attack. If you dislike ym posts, you can report them.

Or I can respond to them and in this case say I am offended you seem to have used sexual assault as a weapon in your argument. I find that very personal.

He and Charlotte gave a message last year to the lionesses for the euros. It’s not a new thing.

The point is that if the children are to be used, the message that only using Charlotte as opposed to George, Charlotte (and Louis) is that women’s sport is only for women and girls to enjoy. And again puts into stark focus the inherent sexism of the general position women’s sport has been in the UK. (I generally am not a fan of using the children at all - but that’s for another thread)

Yes, this ( and I agree with you about using the children ). It does seem odd for them to get that wrong, surely they would see how bad that looks and include at least George. It's a big misstep.

When I listen to PW talk about the environment it comes across as a genuine point of principle, not as “optics” or just a non-controversial cause picked at random for him to talk about. He’s not a “no flying” sort but he is a “reasonable flying” sort, so I don’t think he’s a monster for not compromising on his beliefs! He was not needed their either. Half of the hand shake people could’ve stayed at home including the Spanish Queen. James Cleverly - not needed. Touchy feely Spanish FA President - definitely should’ve stayed at home and sat on his hands. Random US coach (why??) no idea why she was there. Anthony Albanese - ugh, fine. Every other tournament doesn’t have a hand-shaking mob on the pitch.

PrincessTigger · 21/08/2023 16:58

*there ack my spelling is not going well today

Roussette · 21/08/2023 17:03

Trouble is.... W&K use helicopters like the public would use a bus. Even the Queen criticised their constant use of helicopters. They use it to go to Amner Hall from KP all the time. And now probably from Windsor. The carbon emissions of a helicopter are absolutely horrendous compared to a car.

Of course they are different to a huge jet but not good. Charles has always loved helicopter travel too.

Novella4 · 21/08/2023 17:05

Willy needs to resign .

Geoff Hurst ( yes I did have to ask my husband who he was - World Cup hero I’m told ) has criticised the ‘royals’ for not bothering and actually @MrsDanversGlidesAgain an Australian footballer has also criticised Willy for not even mentioning the Australian team
It’s all going from bad to worse

My thoughts are with the staff .
I hope there are plenty of cupboards to hide in.

Camilla will be laughing her head off .
And she can’t even be blamed for this one !
Its all his own doing

Iwantcakeeveryday · 21/08/2023 17:05

Yeah, it may well be climate change is something he cares about, I just don't see it as a reasonable reason here because this is a high profile event and one of the things I think would be a reasonable use of his allotted air travel. Considering other travel mentioned in the thread.

Samcro · 21/08/2023 17:06

didn’t William go to the states to present an award, or did I dream that?

Iwantcakeeveryday · 21/08/2023 17:07

I think it was for more than a single award

When I listen to him talk about the environment I think just the opposite. I think here is a man who constantly flies around in a helicopter, has 3 children who's carbon footprint is probably the equivalent of that of about 30 African children ( yet he has said that African women need to stop having children, without any mention or predumably understanding of the reasons why African women have 5+ children) 4 houses that are under occupied but have to be staffed and heated at all times and spends his holidays either sunning himself in Mustique or shooting birds out of the sky. His environmentalism to me sounds like ' Do as I say so I don't have to'

Serenster · 21/08/2023 17:25

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain an Australian footballer has also criticised Willy for not even mentioning the Australian team

The Australian footballer can’t have read William’s statement via twitter after the semi-final then, when he specifically said “Commiserations to @TheMatildas, you've played brilliantly and been fantastic co-hosts of this World Cup

Novella4 · 21/08/2023 17:25

Yes I suspect the ‘environment’ will be the next area he’s called out on .

Hes a class A hypocrite on green issues , so is Charles , but at least Charles can point to organic farming

Geoff Hurst could be the next president of the FA. Since 1939 it's always been a member of the Royal Family but perhaps it doesn't have to be.

Novella4 · 21/08/2023 17:27

@Serenster

Geoff Hurst calling out Willy is the one that will really resonate

Novella4 · 21/08/2023 17:28

Well why isn’t it Geoff Hurst ?
Or Beckham ?
An actual player ?

I don’t agree, he’s never been the sort of environmentalist that says we have to go back and live in caves and never do anything. The Earthshot is about finding high tech solutions to be more energy efficient and less wasteful. Cutting down on non-essential travel (of which a trip to Oz for 90 minutes would have been the most extreme) is not the same as staying at home and never going anywhere. Otherwise it becomes the “you criticise in society yet you yourself participate in society” meme.

skullbabe · 21/08/2023 17:30

He’s not a “no flying” sort but he is a “reasonable flying” sort, so I don’t think he’s a monster for not compromising on his beliefs! He was not needed their either.

He has flown across the world for other issues - Earthshot for example. That was important for him. Conversely it appears the the Women’s World Cup final was. It important for him. And finally yes - the President of the English FA needed to be there as did the unfortunately handsy President of the Spanish FA (he is being absolutely roasted in the Spanish press for what he did - and rightly so) and the head of FIFA which sponsors the World Cup. The host country’s head of state/government should also be present.

Every other tournament doesn’t have a hand-shaking mob on the pitch.

Not sure how many international football matches you may have watched but there are easily about 5 or 6 people who are there for the hand shaking at most tournaments so calling it a mob is unnecessary.

Novella4 · 21/08/2023 17:30

@PrincessTigger
So doing his actual job as President of the FA is less important than a Middle East wedding or his next luxury holiday ?

Thats the message we all got loud and clear .

Samcro · 21/08/2023 17:06

didn’t William go to the states to present an award, or did I dream that?

That was a three-day trip in which they hosted the Earthshot Awards event, meet Joe Biden, visited the JFK Presidential Library and met with Caroline Kennedy, visited various local climate-changed focussed organisations and went to Harvard.

You didn’t know who this guy was a few minutes and now he’s v. important and he should be president of the England FA. Ok.

Sorry my sentence should say

**Conversely it appears the the Women’s World Cup final was not important for him.
