Prince William Scotland Visit

Prince William was on a visit to Scotland and there was pretty much no spectators or crowd.

No press coverage in the usual places either. Is this because of a lack of appetite for the royal family, little Scottish interest in the royal family or something I haven't noticed.

The visit was not announced beforehand . My sister lives in Aberdeen and didn’t hear a sniff about it beforehand.

I live in Edinburgh and there is a lot of excitement about the event taking place on Wednesday. Crowd barriers are already in place ..

Jazzandblues · 30/06/2023 23:31

It looks like they were expecting people because they had lots of barriers.

Perhaps William didn’t want the crowds and press to be there. Perhaps he wanted to slip in unnoticed and get on with the job in hand. Who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️

Were they not because of some building work ?

MrsPerfect12 · 01/07/2023 08:22

I had no idea he was visiting. Neither did my friends.

alloutofluck · 01/07/2023 09:16

The barriers were for crowds. There were some people standing behind them to watch William arriving. But very few people.
And the visit was announced beforehand. There just wasn't much interest

alloutofluck · 01/07/2023 09:30

The visit to Aberdeen was announced on June the 27th and was reported before it happened in the local Aberdeen paper and BBC news as well as on social media. This is usual for royal visits.
But the reporters present outnumbered the public. The interest in the royal family is far less in Scotland. Although I am sure for future visits they will do pre work to make sure there are people there e.g. persuade a guide unit to attend.

Oblahbla · 01/07/2023 09:57

Charles and Camilla's visit to Dunfermline was very well attended, crowds of people there.

'The visit to Aberdeen was announced on June the 27th'..... Aye, and it happened the same day, quite early in the day - there were more people there when he left as word had obviously got round.

I would mention the hundreds of thousands who turned up to see the Queen's cortege and lying in state at St Giles but doubtless the anti monarchists and republicans will maintain the hundreds of thousands there just wanted to make sure she was really dead.

Sugarfree23 · 01/07/2023 11:25

I live near Glasgow and this is the first I've heard of it.
Also school holidays have started and lots of people take advantage of getting away before the English schools stop and the prices hike even higher.

Labradorandshiraz · 01/07/2023 16:07

I think there’s many visits they do that go unpublished.

MrsFinkelstein · 01/07/2023 16:54

I'm in Scotland, there was no announcement of his visit beforehand, but plenty of press coverage on BBC, STV and Sky afterwards.

The crowds weren't massive because the visit wasn't announced beforehand, but they did gather while he was there.

And everyone there was very supportive. He was only there for 30 mins or so, literally a flying visit.

William visited Aberdeen on the 28th of June. The local Aberdeen newspaper, BBC and social media said on the 27th he was coming.
Why are you all so desperate to pretend no one knew?

alloutofluck · 02/07/2023 07:24

@Oblahbla why would anyone deny lots of people turned up for the queens cortège? She was loved and respected.

myrtleWilson · 02/07/2023 08:49

He visited on the 27th not the 28th

Scotland doesn't fawn over the Royal family as much cos we've got more feckin sense

He visited on the 27th, it was not announced the day before, but the day of.
Unless you're telling me journalists from Aberdeen Live can time travel and had the piece (plus photos of his visit) all published on the 27th????

Judging by the bunch of fuds we've voted in as MSPs for the past nearly 20 years, that's highly fecking dubious. Have you seen the state of the Scottish Parlaiament and our Government???? 2nd rate, incompetent twats waving a yellow flag and a saltire.

Wrong. He visited on the 27th not the 28th. It was indeed only announced on the 27th - hours before his arrival

Hedjwitch · 02/07/2023 09:28

The Royals do lots of low key visits. It all depends on the reason for the visit and whether publicity is welcome or not. Also keeps costs down re policing crowds.

Correct.

The project was announced the day before, but only a couple of locations - Aberdeen was not one of those initially announced.

Here's a typical example of the reporting from the 26th. The visits started the 27th.

Prince William launches his programme aimed at ending homelessness

Prince William started his two-day UK tour today launching his homelessness project Homewards. His first visit was in London, followed by Bournemouth, then Newport.

This ad infinitum! All the 'you idiots for blindly following the RF and waving flags' while dressed in snp yellow waving the Saltire and pledging alliance to NS!

readsalotgirl63 · 02/07/2023 10:22

As @MrsFinkelstein says it wasn't announced in advance but was widely covered by local and national media. There was definitely a crowd outside the building as it had been known in advance that there would be a VIP visiting. People who were there were pretty positive

This with bells on. No-one can accuse Scotland as a country of having too much sense when we’ve voted in this pile of dingbats.

It wasn’t announced in advance, hence the low turnout. In comparison, the Queen’s funeral attracted hundreds of thousands - so while the Saltire-waving idiots like to think there’s little or no support for the RF up here they’re wrong - much like they were in 2014…
