Prince William Scotland Visit

Prince William was on a visit to Scotland and there was pretty much no spectators or crowd.

No press coverage in the usual places either. Is this because of a lack of appetite for the royal family, little Scottish interest in the royal family or something I haven't noticed.

I’d imagine there aren’t many spectators for most of their visits. They do loads of them, and their diaries are published in advance.

A bunch of fuds can be voted out.

We can't get rid of the royals unfortunately.

We could, but the majority the country don't want to.

ssd · 03/07/2023 08:31

Thats democracy for you. Unlike the royals.

KnitMePurlMe · 03/07/2023 08:35

@ssd absolutely.

A non-democratic institution the majority seem in no hurry to want to get rid of.

The current SNP are a disaster but surely it must get boring trying to cram anti-SNP diatribes into every bloody thread about Scotland.
This was about William and homelessness (an initiative and spotlight that's been long needed imo).

Not exactly as the SNP need to be propped up by the Greens. I don’t think they’ve ever won an outright majority in the Scottish parliament.

When someone claims Scotland has more fecking sense it’s going to follow that many posters will put them right and explain why that’s evidently not the case. If pointing out the incompetences of our current Govt equates to anti-SNP diatribes in your book then that’s on you.

Exactly. The Scots have no more fecking sense than the English, Irish or Welsh.

sheworemellowyellow · 05/07/2023 17:14

The Scots do have a better turn of phrase though 😂

EdithWeston · 05/07/2023 17:42

Big turn out for the King and Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay today.

spanieleyes · 05/07/2023 17:59

@EdithWeston

Someone posted pictures of empty streets on another thread,so it's interesting to hear that the crowds developed.

Scotland doesn't fawn over the Royal family as much cos we've got more feckin sense

Course you have 🙄

Probably either not taken in Edinburgh or at about 5am

Streets were mobbed. There was a huge turnout

I'm just watching the coverage on iplayer.
I know all those streets well and it's absolutely packed all the way along the Royal Mile. 10-15 people deep in areas.

It's a wonderful celebration of Scottish history and culture, the Scottish honours are older than the English Crown jewels, its fascinating hearing all the details.

Proud Scot here watching Edinburgh and Scotland on display in all their glory.

The streets were packed - my friend was there and sent loads of photos. Looks like people were having a great day (apart from small (in comparison) number of protesters )

spanieleyes · 05/07/2023 21:05

I've just caught up on iplayer too and the streets were certainly packed! The photos posted on another thread were rather deceptive!
Lovely ceremony( I like the pomp and pageantry of royal occasions) and everyone looked much more relaxed than when in Westminster!

Oblahbla · 05/07/2023 21:29

DNephew works on Holyrood Road, in an office full of young folk (most younger than 35). None of them could resist heading up the road to see the King - and not to protest Grin. DN sent some pics - enormous, good natured crowds. Which I'd been there.

SirChenjins · 05/07/2023 21:33

DD works at ERI and sent photos of the King’s visit there this week too - also packed!

Jacopo · 06/07/2023 07:12

Bit ironic that the two “members of the Scottish government” who attended the anti-monarchy protest were the fuds from the Green Party: the misogynist Harvie, and the crazy Slater. Slater was not even elected as an MSP, she got in on the list process, so she should stop complaining about unelected heads of state. And neither of them would be members of the government at all if it were not for the power sharing arrangement propping up the SNP.

Agree . If i remember correctly Slater had fewer than 2000 votes ? She has definitively been promoted beyond her ability !

SirChenjins · 06/07/2023 09:48

Excellent point about Slater and co.
