No great surprise there... Would love to hear his story about Zooming Prince Harry, I can only imagine his frustration with the whining ninny!

Harry and Meghan had Taylor Perry, Oprah and Ellen on speed dial. They could have gotten help if they were floundering or looked for advice.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 27/06/2023 09:33

I agree they still get commercial gain, Daisiesandprimroses, just as they did via Oprah even though we were invited to believe they weren't "paid" for it

We could say the same about anyone who makes features about a worthy cause though, and I wouldn't want to single Harry out for this one
FWIW I'm very much looking forward to this, though keeping my fingers crossed that - just for once - he can avoid making it all about himself

AliceOlive · 27/06/2023 09:33

MarcelProust · 27/06/2023 09:27

Oh?
What did Taylor's rep say about this please. I cannot see any link that it happened or what Taylor's reasons are - she is a busy woman after all, so I can see a schedule clash.

But, please do link.

You are taking issue because I think a personal request from someone who was also in show business deserves the courtesy a personal reply, or one that at least gives the appearance of such?

Howsimplywonderful · 27/06/2023 09:34

I read that Meghan had wanted Reece Witherspoon for the Bimbo episode but she had declined (she’s a very successful actress/producer/book club host). She has never said it openly though.

MarcelProust · 27/06/2023 09:34

Aah... Murdoch.

Well, while his publications have been going around spreading that award winning, no 1 podcasts are infact a flop.

What he should worry about is how he paid 50M for Piers to draw in 20-50K audiences. Even less than Gbeebies and Paw patrol. 😅

Howsimplywonderful · 27/06/2023 09:35

@AliceOlive

I don’t think Hollywood works in that way.

JuvenileZebraShark · 27/06/2023 09:35

You can see that Oprah was the smartest one here - a one off deal and a massive pay day/publicity for her with no continuing commitment.

She got the exclusive. You can see why she has been at the top of her game for so long. Took the money and moved on.

So your opinion is no matter how big you are, how busy, if someone in “show business” you don’t know, writes a personal request it’s rude to not write a personal one back? How very quaint.

JuvenileZebraShark · 27/06/2023 09:38

@Howsimplywonderful I can understand why she declined - that is a massive back handed compliment. I don't think anyone has considered Reece a bimbo. She has played bimbos (as an actress in a role) but I can't recall her own personal image being perceived as such. She hasn't done trashy reality etc.

Agree however should be noted that M&H have done this sort of thing too but to the ‘little people’. They do the very royal thing of responding to personal letters and kind gestures (like the bloke that donated a bike to Archie) via a member of staff from their “office”. Except they’re not the King or the Queen or the Prince of Wales getting thousands of these gestures a day in their capacity as royals, it’s just play acting at royal, so it’s kinda rude not to say thank-you themselves.

Howsimplywonderful · 27/06/2023 09:40

Exactly, Reece’s production company focuses on book about strong women and producing shows and starring in films about strong women.

AliceOlive · 27/06/2023 09:42

Oh I’m quite certain Hollywood and US show business is built on relationships.

So someone decided not to have her secretary send a personal reply - highly unlikely this was done without input. And someone, Taylor or her staff, decided to talk about it. While H&M are getting kicked repeatedly.

Even if you think they earned the kicking, the Taylor Swift “had her staff reply” story was an unnecessary gut punch on top of all the other bad news.

Totally agree. That stupid bicycle note. I thought that was super rude.

JuvenileZebraShark · 27/06/2023 09:44

I would have thought that story was leaked from Spotify or Archewell (e.g. someone who has since left). They probably received or saw the reply from Taylor's assistant. A lot of people were involved in the production of that podcast. I very much doubt that Taylor or her teamed leaked that.

Howsimplywonderful · 27/06/2023 09:45

@AliceOlive

It’s a cut throat business in Hollywood. It makes the RF look like puppies. Most relationships are purely transactional.

Have you read ‘you’ll never eat lunch in this town again’ it’s a good book although old.

Howsimplywonderful · 27/06/2023 09:46

Spotify were probably given a list of proposed guests but few materialised

MarcelProust · 27/06/2023 09:46

Once more, where is the link that Reece rep says they were asked and declined.

Or did someone with an active imagination think, oh that Reece series by the beach and thought of Montecito and just figured a nice smear would sound believable since Reece starred in that Pink wearing lawyer movie.

Otherwise people are discussing hot air.

Or you could just link the statement from Reece's team???

I think it’s ok to be a super fan, but honestly I really doubt Taylor swift gives as much thought to Meghan as you seem to think. She likely barely makes her radar.

Howsimplywonderful · 27/06/2023 09:56

I think the Sussex’s should quit Hollywood and move to Canada. I think they’d be far happier

Wheresthebeach · 27/06/2023 09:58

It all links back to a massive sense of self importance. They had thousands line the streets to cheer when they got married, Hollywood royalty like Oprah keen for an interview and huge press attention for just 'being', and book deals to tell their story. The didn't get that it was all because of Harry's birth, not because of them. So they did deals that required them to have talent to create shows/content and interview famous people, all with no actual experience. Then, just as reported when MM joined the RF, they didn't take advantage of the offers of help from those around them with more experience, they 'hit the ground running', and it hasn't worked.

Serenster · 27/06/2023 09:58

And someone, Taylor or her staff, decided to talk about it. While H&M are getting kicked repeatedly.

It could have been someone working on the podcast who talked about that, though. Various of the Archewell team would have known who was on the guest wishlist and who had been approached. And given the behind the scenes details given in the WSJ article, that’s probably far more likely as a source.
