I'm no fashionista but I love scrutinizing how these brides deck themselves out for such a huge event. Me? I'd look like a hippo in a frock.

I'll start- my favourite is Princess Mary of Denmark. She looked like a dream.

Mary of Denmark

By royal decree: royal brides and their wedding dresses

Eugenics looked amazing especially with that gorgeous emerald tiara to go with it.

I just saw this and it cheered up my morning of looking at proofs! 😀

My favourites are Kate's and Margaret's. Eugenie looked lovely as well

My least favourites are Princess Anne's (second wedding), Meghan's (although her reception dress was stunning) and Diana's

Am I the only one who loves Princess Anne's first wedding dress? And her engagement dress was really beautiful

I guess the photo shows her (Anne's) engagement photo. You are not the only one who loved Princess Anne's first wedding dress. So did I. Up-thread I have said I liked hers and Princess Margaret's dresses. I meant Anne's first wedding dress although I might not have made it clear.

Op I agree crown princess Mary's dress was utterly amazing. Her mother in law Queen Margrethe of Denmark also looked amazing and I think for the 60s a fairly timeless look. Btw Mary wore the same veil as Margrethe did.

I love Crown Princess Victoria of Swedens dress too. I think it got that simplicity and elegance Meghan was aiming for but didn't fully get.

I even now love Sarah Duchess of Yorks dress Sarah was/is often criticised for her dress sense but for her wedding she looked amazing and like another poster said it would still work now.

If we go for overthe top dresses i dont think Dianas fully wins the price it has to go to
Queen Alexandra

I do have a fondness for Maudes dress with all the bows. Its just so fun. The top is gorgeous less keen on the train.

Givenchy took the piss with Meghan's dress, there was no finesse and the fabric looked like cheap man made fibre. The veil was stunning as were the hair, make up and tiara and Meghan is beautiful, but that dress was awful. The evening dress was stunning, Stella M should have been given the main job.

Kate's dress was a masterclass in couture, as was to be expected with the McQueen house, structurally amazing, stunning materials and craft. The veil was a bit too 'flat' and clung to her face in quite a claustrophobic way, I thought. The tiara was perfectly proportioned for her. The make up was too heavy and old fashioned. Hated Kate's evening dress, looked like something from Monsoon and the bolero thing was very twee.

Mary of Denmark's dress was stunning, traditional but chic and she looked comfortable in it. Ditto Mette Marit's dress

I loved the history in Beatrice's choice, but it was too 'Disney' for my taste.

I liked Zara's dress a lot, very 'her'

I loved Eugenie's evening dress, the wedding gown not so much.

@limoncello23 Oh my, the bows! There's that whole beautiful set-up for the photo... and then... THE BOWS!

As for Megan, I agree with everyone who said her dress wasn't fitted properly and just didn't look quite right.

Then again, I was reading a fiction novel last night about wedding planning, choosing the dress and so on. The fictional wedding planner was pushing for a simple dress & said "Look at Megan! They basically send her up the aisle in a napkin! She's so beautiful she can get away with it!".

The Givenchy Napkin Dress! 😂

As soon as I saw grace Kelly's dress I thought it looked so like Catherine's. Loved Beatrice and Eugenie's dresses. Meghans was a bit meh with the style although the veil and tiara saved it.

I think there's already a section in style and beauty on royal clothes?

You mean Catherine's looked like Grace Kelly's?

I've seen Diana's dress in an exhibition and it is actually beautiful, stunning ! But it just didn't suit her . The dress wore her , it was just too big .

doglover90 · 11/06/2023 19:31

I liked Kate's dress from certain angles, but not so much from the front! It was beautifully made but I wasn't a fan of the V neck, and the cone nipples were weird. The buttons and Victorian style bustly bit at the back were very pretty - I think the dress is probably a lot more impressive closer up. I was a fan of her reception dress and fluffy bolero (unpopular opinion, I know!) Her make up looked dreadful - I wish she hadn't done her own. :/

The concept of Meghan's dress was great, but it was ill fitting and her hair also looked really messy. I loved the reception dress.

Eugenie's dress was lovely. I actually wasn't a fan of the tiara - the emeralds didn't seem to sparkle at all! I didn't like the bust of her evening gown.

Beatrice looked like a little girl playing dress up. She seems to like hair ribbons and puff sleeves but they don't suit her. She now has a stylist, which probably explains why she's generally looking a lot better nowadays.

I actually think that Zara Phillips' look was very underrated - the dress really flattered her and the tiara set it off beautifully.

Did anyone see Princess Rajwa's evening reception gown? I thought it was horrible - like loo roll. She's normally so stylish!! I loved the back of her first dress. The front looked a bit bandagey.

I think my favourite recent royal wedding dress has to be Princess Iman's. Her whole look was perfection. 😍

Some of my all time faves:

Yes sorry- there is a section in Style & Beauty on royals... I wasn't sure where to post.

I liked Beatrice's dress, the detailing is fab. But the late Queen wore it better. Puffy sleeves don't look good on most people.

The Duchess of Kent's wedding dress is still my favourite.

pilates · 14/06/2023 17:42

Kate and Meghan’s were my favourites.

I remember as a kid being very disappointed at Diana’s.

Enko · 14/06/2023 19:49

The thing with Maud is her dress is beautiful if you just look at the dress

Maud The small bows that gets larger work so well on the dress and the beginning of the train is lovely then suddenly BANG huge bows :)

Not really royal but 'Royal Adjacent' 😆

Victoria Spencer's wedding dress to Charles Spencer - when I saw it as a child I was horrified but it has grown on me in the years. Romantic Medieval princess.

Does not hurt she is an ethereal beauty herself.

I can’t find the reference but I remember reading that the dress had a fur trim and it was raining on the day and the wet fur really smelt 🤢

She does look lovely, she said was a very beautiful lady and it is a very romantic gown.

Oh that's put me right off it!! 😆

I have just googled and she seems to have a very hard time of it all. Hopefully much happier now.
