H&M vs Backgrid

PicturesOfDogs · 18/05/2023 20:51

H&M have apparently ’demanded’ pap footage from Backgrid, according to TMZ.

Their lawyer has replied with the following:

In America, as I'm sure you know, property belongs to the owner of it: Third parties cannot just demand it be given to them, as perhaps Kings can do. Perhaps you should sit down with your client and advise them that his English rules of royal prerogative to demand that the citizenry hand over their property to the Crown were rejected by this country long ago. We stand by our founding fathers

Court case #6 incoming?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Demand Photo Agency Give Them Footage of 'Chase'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are trying to put the squeeze on a photo agency that claimed their freelance paparazzi who followed the couple Tuesday night were not, as M&H claimed, "highly aggressive" and didn't cause a near-collision.

Apparently they were too cheap to pay for a hotel, and instead created all this drama because they refused to act like other high profile celebs do when trying to lose the paparazzi.

Ninjama1 · 20/05/2023 00:18

One thing is for certain. It has suppressed all the articles about the award.

Joan51 · 20/05/2023 02:14

Don’t appear to be wearing seatbelts. That would be my number one priority.

coolmum123 · 20/05/2023 05:39

Why were they in a Hertz office tho? Didn't the award place have its own entrance? Seems strange

You couldn't make it up

Clearly they have done 😂. They are barking mad, no doubt creating further fodder for Netflix.

it would make sense to use a hotel as a decoy, but perhaps the friends were looking after the children and they were in a hurry to get back to them

Yeah, @MamoruHisaishi the US tabloids are having a field day.

Honeymoon is definitely over.

Ouch! The comments on that article are brutal

RoseThornside · 20/05/2023 07:15

I think it's possible they have "exaggerated" because Harry is about to go to court to try and get the British government to let him hire British policemen as his security. I think he's invented all this in order to help his case i.e., see why I need British security!

I suspect any judge worth their salt will only look down at this nonsense they've created around themselves - timing of their stunt was very fishy, execution piss poor

notanotheroneagain · 20/05/2023 08:44

having a high speed chase through ny for two hours is nigh on impossible and now they’ve back tracked when it’s become clear it’s bullshit. And now they are having their lawyers demand footage that they have no right to.

Once more, they never said high speed chase for 2hrs.

So this hotel goes to Murdock's page6 to report how H&M's bookers wanted a discount - which is normal for PA's to do in exchange of the publicity the hotel will get anyway.

All this is saying that celebrities must not book with the Carlyle because they be running their mouths off to the rags. A good think H&M didn't go there, they probably would have had the paps ready and waiting for them.

This came from a quote from a “supposed” law enforcement the hotel gave no comment

LadyMuckingabout · 20/05/2023 09:11

Don’t be silly, nottheoneagain. Celebrities stay in hotels all the time and certainly don’t want publicity: the hotel would be stuffed if they betrayed their guests. They’d never get another booking! (And these guests are very lucrative… one I know had a permanent suite at a discreet NY hotel - my colleague was night manager and…. Well…)

So now law enforcement is involved with the ins and outs of hotel bookings?

It says the bookings were ahead of the trip.

Howsimplywonderful · 20/05/2023 09:30

@notsayingmuch

Celebrities stay in hotels all the time, and the staff are usually discreet.

The only time a hotel mouths off about a guest is when they don’t want them back.

notanotheroneagain · 20/05/2023 09:35

And this hotel thing in itself.

Maybe H&M brought their dc with them to the friend's house. Hence they wanted to go back to them.
Anyway, I can't imagine the scenario of going to a random hotel. They come in and the paps hound them at reception, till hotel security takes them out. Diana tried the backdoor decoy thing and look how that ended up. Surely the paps are well versed on this by now.

8roses · 20/05/2023 09:37

They stayed in the Carlyle a number of times- it has an underground entrance and exit 3 blocks from the hotel.

Well you know that.
What makes you think NY paps don't?

8roses · 20/05/2023 09:40

Maybe they do - no idea 🤷‍♀️ it was good enough for the hundred or so let gala celebs who all stayed there

notanotheroneagain · 20/05/2023 09:42

As for the seatbelts.
Posters are claiming not to have seen footage of the chase, therefore it did not exist. Yet seem adamant that they did not have seatbelts on all the time, when the only pics we see with no seatbelts are with a stationery car.
So infact we know nothing.
They could easily argue that they were in the process of getting in or out of the taxi and put their seatbelts back on when the car started moving.

No need to get all tizzy about it.

grass321 · 20/05/2023 09:43

What makes you think NY paps don't?

Why would it matter? Presumably at the point you enter the car park, it's private property. And even then it can't take long to walk to a lift or secured area once you're in the car park.

Personally I think it was a drama of their own making. They like to feel important and they think it helps their U.K. security lawsuit. They exaggerated the severity of the situation and enjoyed the cat and mouse subterfuge.

Leaving those of us not in their fan camp rolling their eyes at yet another 'look at me' PR stunt.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 20/05/2023 10:10

On a slightly different tack I'm wondering what the point is of demanding the handover of the footage in the first place

It's not as if they could then claim copyright since it wasn't theirs originally, so where's the benefit - unless it's for another court case, though if so why not request CCTV footage (if any exists) from the police?

They didn't have any legitimate footage of being hounded by paps for Netflix so this would be the first clips that they could use for that purpose.

I suspect that both the paps and their security behaved dangerously and they don't want that made public in a courtroom should they decide to sue.
