I’d have been happy with a few more tunes. Great concert.

It was amazing though..my brother is there so can't wait to hear all about it!
Shame about sudden end

I think they are trying to distance Paddington from the Royal Family it was getting a bit silly.

Backtonormalatlast · 07/05/2023 23:18

Yes agree it just suddenly ended!

It's only because I'm sure I heard he was making some special appearance? My mum thought she heard it too.

MintyCedric · 07/05/2023 23:20

Winnie the Pooh popped in though 😁

Yep and Kermit!

I had heard Winnie the Pooh was making an appearance maybe some people got them mixed up. I like a little bit for the kids like Winnie the Pooh and Kermit but I think its right that they change it up and give more British Characters a go. After all whoever owns the rights to Paddington must have made a fortune off the back of the Jubilee and then the Queens funeral.

Singleandproud · 07/05/2023 23:24

They should have used Peter Pan so the money could go to Gosh.

Swansandcustard · 07/05/2023 23:27

The concerts are the only part of these Royal jamborees I approve of. Lucy had me in tears, as did the lights.

Shouldve done the after party. Camilla looked utterly done from the start.

More British than the Londoner A A Milne?

I just said I thought it was right that they are changing it up and giving some more British characters a go. (Rather than always Paddington) Therefore I know that Pooh and Kermit are British. Not really understanding your question?

Sorry @trisfreya I have reread my post and I think I've put a stray 'but' in there which changed what I was trying to say.

Womencanlift · 07/05/2023 23:51

I am pretty sure the Jubilee concert ended abruptly too as I remember us sitting watching and everyone said “is that it” when it finished

That's not how it read, hence her question. 🤷‍♀️

I thought there would be a big finale and I don't think that last song was the note to finish on but otherwise it was a cracking show.

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 07/05/2023 23:59

The king was late so it started late, o guess they had a slot to fill.

We were there is was fab

I know thats why I corrected myself in the post underneath the one you quoted.

I wonder if it ended as abruptly in real life. They cut away quick to get to the news but I wonder if that was actually the end at the actual concert maybe there was a bit more, not necessarily songs but someone thanking everyone for coming etc etc

Underminer · 08/05/2023 00:29

There was a lot of really good moments, amongst disappointing ones.
Lucy was the star of the show, we loved her in The Piano.
but Pete Tong, Ibiza classics, we thought would be on at the end until late.
Loved the commonwealth choir. The microphone for the singers didn’t appear to be tuned correctly, Lionel’s voice was weak, Katy Perry looked like the Toffee Penny from Quality Street, and Take That we’re ok, although Mark Owen’s voice was also weird.
Too short, could’ve done with another half an hour at least.

CloseCurledLeaf · 08/05/2023 00:42

I agree, we wanted a bit more, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We would have liked to have heard some more from Take That, but thought it kind, they all got to lead, but we needed more from Gary Barlow.

Every other programme that I don’t watch, has some kind of after show, I could have lived with this here, and a bit more concert. I was hitting the red button on my remote, to no avail, and scouring all of the other BBC channels, just in case it moved over.

For the next Take That concert they need to take note of Katy Perrys production, and duplicate their voices a bit more, a few more backing singers, never go amiss. Still good stuff, though I wish they persuaded Jason Orange back, for one show, even if he was just dancing about in a suit, after all their years together, it would have been good, and I’ve only learnt his name recently 😂
Still hoping for Stardust, such a good track.

I’m continuing the party (v quietly) with a 70s disco thing on tv

lostinmaze · 08/05/2023 00:54

Lionel was pretty awful, not sure what happened there but it sounded like he kept making sounds like a cat and was totally tuneless. I'm a massive fan so felt let down by that! As for the rest of it, it was medioka at best, atrocious at worst.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/05/2023 00:59

I don't know if Katy's voice wasn't on top form, but she didn't even attempt most of the higher notes. Firework is mean to be a really effortlessly energetic song, but it was a bit pedestrian in the delivery.

I still don't see why we had American artists in the line-up (nothing personally against them), considering that we have loads of our own international stars in the UK - and others from across the Commonwealth.

Bea822 · 08/05/2023 07:06

Someone said they read that the organisers had a hard time finding artists because lots of singers refused. I'm pretty surprised by that.

Singleandproud · 08/05/2023 07:20

@Bea822 lots of UK acts refused as they are already on tour. It was arranged quickly unlike the jubilee concerts although the last one of those was a bit random with the acts they had, I enjoyed last night much more.

It made sense of Katy Perry yo be there as she does lots of work for the Princes Trust. I wonder if not as many of our singers are involved in his charity. I'm not sure of the Lionel Rich Tea link but perhaps it's similar.

I would have quite linked Geri in a new Union Jack dress and the rest of the SG than take that but TT seem to be a royal favourite, perhaps because of charity work too.

MsWhitworth · 08/05/2023 07:24

I guess they used up a lot of people for the jubilee concert last year and didn’t just want to repeat that. Plus I also read they couldn’t get anyone.
