I know I'll probably get roasted but King Charles is now a billionaire but he has the most awful gruesome teeth. I cant even bear to look at them. With all that money I'd get my teeth straightened and some subtle veneers. When you are a public figure like that the least you can do is have nice teeth.
I'm not rich by any means but I had mine straightened and si did my DS as I take care of them even if it means not ha
Ving a holiday or or new clothes or anything.
He isn't on benefits he is the king. Sort it out Charles.

I'm just glad I have all of mine, I'm old enough to remember when women younger than I am now all seemed to have false teeth, for women born at the start of the 20th century it wasn't unusual to have dentures when still fairly young.

My Gran had her teeth out and dentures before her wedding i think it was quite common.

Morestrangerthings · 06/05/2023 15:58

He’s keeping his teeth real. So is Camilla. The queen had veneers or maybe crowns or implants as she aged, I noticed.

eternalopt · 06/05/2023 15:58

A 74 yr old suddenly getting veneers would look beyond ridiculous.

Madamecastafiore · 06/05/2023 16:16

Oh his yes much better he looks like Silvio Berlusconi!

Agree he should get veneers

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 06/05/2023 16:54

Veneers would be awful on teeth like that. So destructive!
Adult ortho and whitening is what he needs if he wants aesthetic dental treatment but most mid 70s men are more bothered about having a functioning prostate that messing about with functional teeth. Caring that much about what you look like isn’t that healthy IMO.
He has a set of healthy looking teeth. A fortnight in Turkey for veneers and you are no longer that lucky.

Not that I'm an expert but they looked like crowns or even dentures

As we get older all our teeth drift forward, it's called mesial drift, so they become more crowded. It happens to everyone

This probably. I have just googled and there are photos from when he was younger where his bottom teeth are much straighter.

I remember those days too. My grandma had all her teeth taken out and given dentures as an 18 birthday present! My parents were given toothpaste with sugar in it. I have all my teeth and no fillings thanks to genetics and When I was born. They are definitely yellowing with age but the whole of me is getting older. I won’t be doing anything cosmetic other than a sturdier moisturiser.

Yes what a lovely gift, I've heard it was often a wedding present from parents so you wouldn't "burden" your husband with dentist's bills.

I do have all my teeth but I also have fillings. I see a dentist every six months and a hygienist every 3 months. I desperately don't want dentures.

Kaftanesque · 06/05/2023 18:24

I'm obsessed with teeth now as I get older and have had problems with my gums and lost one tooth despite what I thought was good dental hygiene.Got a new dentist now who is much better. But Charles is 74 and a different generation .But there's a happy medium. Some celebs and people frankly look stupid with over engineered teeth - and faces - IMO.

Teeth can become more crowded together as you grow older.

Dear god not everyone has fake white veneers esp not in your 70s
I just wonder how many sets of veneers people are going to go through in their lifetimes

Yes I wonder that too
And I also wonder how many times you can actually get veneers before your teeth are completely fucked, because the tooth has to be shaped to fit a veneer on and every time you replace one wouldn't you have to shave a bit more off the tooth to prepare the surface correctly.

myveryownelectrickitten · 06/05/2023 23:13

Yeah they have to be redone completely every 7-10 years, and the underlying teeth get filed down to little spiky stumps to fit them on. Causes all sorts of problems in the mouth. My teeth don’t look cosmetically perfect but they are healthy, so my dentist - who could have sold me expensive veneers but I’d very good so didn’t - just said “why on Earth would you go from a low-maintenance mouth to a high-maintenance mouth?”

If teeth are healthy and functional, you cause a lot more problems by adding veneers to them. The actual tooth hardly exists any more afterwards.

Luckynumbereight · 07/05/2023 00:49

I hate to burst your bubble OP but you’d be hard pressed to find someone of nearly 75 without crowded natural teeth on the bottom. As we age our lower jaw shrinks significantly and this causes the teeth to shift. Some people lose bone faster than others and they usually end up like Charles.

overitunderit · 06/05/2023 10:50

They are gross tbf. I think it's a posho thing.

This ^^

someoneisalwaysintheloo · 07/05/2023 05:26

I think just a little bit of whitening (1/2 to maybe 3/4 shade lighter) and straightened would still look natural but nicer than they are now. No blazing white chiclet teeth!

My dentist said the same to me when I asked about them. In a few decades' time there are going to be heck of a lot of OAPs walking around with those little stumps on show because their ageing gums and jaws will no longer support having veneers.

Chewbecca · 07/05/2023 10:02

And their finances won't support it either.

They'll have to have implants All-on-4 - that's if they still have enough bone mass to support them.

I have tetracycline stained teeth and wanted a cosmetic solution. My dentist wouldn't crown them and wouldn't put veneers on them because she said that while they aren't the nicest looking teeth in the world she will not shave down healthy teeth to put crowns or veneers on for cosmetic reasons. She offered composite bonds instead, which are minimally invasive and I'm happy with them.

I might be having composite bonds too! How are you getting on with them? Can they fall off? How expensive were yours – just ballpark?

Yes, they can fall off and they do need to be replaced - around 5 - 7 years.
I don't bite into hard things with them - such as apples, or chocolate bars and so on. You do have to be a bit careful in that respect. Some food to be bitten has to go in the side of my mouth.
Mine were €100 per tooth in Hungary - I live in a neighbouring country.
Took about half an hour per tooth to do.

Conflictedcommunication · 07/05/2023 12:36

For his age they are good! I know crooked isn't a good look and it's actually more than just a cosmetic issue but the condition is fine. No obvious decay. I've seen people a hell of a lot younger than Charles with far worse teeth.
