The royal family

Part 2: The Press & The Royals a discussion

Whaeanui · 27/04/2023 14:52

Following on from this thread: Part 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_royal_family/4786923-the-press-the-royals-a-discussion?page=1

As we know, the press often manufacture stories to create divisions between the women in the family, more often than the men. They have also hacked private communications, with cases ongoing. The public seem to feed off this and none of the family get treated very well except the monarch-although not always.

For discussion: do we think it is possible for the royal family to stay relevant and in the publics mind without their unhealthy relationship with the media, and how can they achieve that? How will previous and current legal proceedings alter the relationship?
Please do not intentionally derail this thread by discussing your personal dislike of particular family members or if they deserve it. I would really like to continue this discussion on how the royal family and the press interact, as above.

The Press & The Royals: a discussion | Mumsnet

As we were just having a great discussion on this topic I’m going to try again to continue it on a thread of its own. A previous thread highlighted tw...

@Mumsnut Not sure who is on today as I’m just following as it happens using a few different sources since they don’t each include everything that’s said and some have parts others didn’t include. I think it is 10 although I’ll not be able to follow too much this morning.

OP posts:
Mumsnut · 16/05/2023 09:39

Nor I. Will
catch up at lunchtime and post anything interesting.

Pray tell, how you came to the conclusion that Kate has natural hair and Meghan has a wig?

Whaeanui · 16/05/2023 09:44

Honestly don’t indulge that. The fact African American women wear wigs and why is well known. I don’t know if Meghan does or not but snide remarks about it are best ignored.

@Ohpleeeease you must have been a lurker or name changer then 😊 but I don’t see you taking anyone to task for their meanness about Meghan on that thread. I may have misunderstood but it looks like you’re saying she doesn’t deserve it because of her interview? Right. That’s an interesting perspective.

Probably a name changer.

Yep. Should be a pile on on MM, even if it doesn't concern the interview.🙄

Posters are showing themselves though.

MM is mixed race. Even at a young age, her hair was long and curly. Personally, I could see how when using straighteners, it could tumble down the way it does right now. Without need for wigs etc.

I've watched friends (YouTube videos) of curly hair seemingly going double the length with straighteners. Infact that applies to all races.

I won't comment about their hair as I know nothing of it, but those who claim expert knowledge about these things claim that the wig is very much on the other head.😁

On to matters of greater substance, looking forward to the trial today.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 15/05/2023 21:47

Does anyone know if Piers Morgan is going to testify?

I do wonder.

Because OP and other posters have come and shown us when he lied through his teeth at Levinson enquiry.

So the harassment of Omid was not just because he was not bashing H&M, it was also because he was a witness to their devious means.

I'm also glad Omid came out and said it was Jason Knauf he spoke to and not H&M themselves.

LadyEloise1 · 16/05/2023 10:03

Why has the DM ( and the Mirror and Daily Express have picked up on it ) got an article about Rose Hanbury's father's passport being out of date and he not being allowed to fly by Ryanair because of some rule since Brexit.

Most odd.

LivelyBlake · 16/05/2023 10:28

from SKY:

Two former journalists will be giving evidence today at the High Court.
One of those is Graham Johnson, who was once a reporter for the Sunday Mirror and before that the News of the World.
The former tabloid journalist was convicted of phone hacking in 2014, having admitted to engaging in the practice while working at the Sunday Mirror.
He received a suspended jail sentence, and has since had a key role in the press reform movement.
Mr Johnson is now assisting lawyers for Prince Harry and other celebrities in their privacy claim against Daily Mail publisher Associated Newspapers - and he will also be speaking in court today for the case against Mirror Group Newspapers.
The High Court will hear as well from former journalist Brian Basham, who also ran an analytical company research business.
David Sherborne, the barrister representing Prince Harry and the other claimants, said the chair of the Mirror Group's board was alerted to claims of phone hacking at the newspapers by Brian Basham in 2012.
Mr Sherborne has argued in court that unlawful information gathering and a "flood of illegality" was known about by senior executives at Mirror Group at the time and was "successfully covered up by the Plc".

Kate is the biggest wearer of wigs. Once when her tracks were showing, the royal family had to make a statement to say she didn't have surgery on her scalp.

It's one of those racist moments where some people don't realise they are being racist.

This was raised here and this covers the questioning from yesterday better than other reports,
Mr Green asked him why Mr Morgan had been discussing such a sensitive subject in front of an intern, and if it was true, why he had not come forward with the allegations for more than 20 years.
Mr Scobie said he was now at a “different place in his career” and that it was often “invisible interns” who overheard private conversations.

Prince Harry court case: Meghan biographer Omid Scobie says he was asked to hack phones

Omid Scobie has claimed that he was asked to hack phones while on work experience and overheard Piers Morgan being told that a story about Kylie Minogue had come from voicemail messages.

And if that’s true, so what?

(Actually the Palace made a statement to say that she had a scar on her head due to a childhood operation).

8roses · 16/05/2023 12:19

Kate may have extensions - no wig. No idea about Meghan- her hair is ok, nothing special

8roses · 16/05/2023 12:23

I enjoy Kate’s piano playing. What instruments do Harry and Meghan play??? Apart from banging the same old drums that is.

Whaeanui · 16/05/2023 12:24

Oh don’t be silly, @MrsMaxDeWinter it’s the ordinariness of her playing that’s the whole point. What a mean spin you put on it. But why do it in the first place?

I didn't watch eurovision so I didn't see it but from the photos I've seen she looked absolutely stunning and I assume she didn't stamp her feet to be included but was invited. I think it was brave of her to do it and I don't understand the bitching about it unless people are just jealous of a very attractive woman.

Maybe the music critics on here would give us all a treat and record themselves playing and post it so we can all judge how they play. We could even do a MN competition to see who is the best musician on here. Unfortunately I will be unable to perform as I can't play anything and have a phobia of singing in public, I mime hymns in church, so can't even treat you to a merry song.

LivelyBlake · 16/05/2023 12:37

Former journalist Brian Basham is now been questioned and I must say it sounds like he is mainly relying gossip. I'm not an expert so may be wrong but unless he can produce some evidence I'm not sure how much his testimony proves anything.

Hence Harrys email (‘We’ve got to be able to say we had nothing to do with it’)?

I may have misunderstood but it looks like you’re saying she doesn’t deserve it because of her interview? Right. That’s an interesting perspective.

I’ll just address this as it’s only polite. I’m both a lurker and a namechanger, nothing sinister or underhand, it’s my preference, and allowed of course!

I don’t discuss Meghan because honestly I have written her off. She has a new life which suits her better, no problem with that. None of the details about what she does, how she looks and whether she engineers attention interest me. I don’t feel the need to criticise or defend her. In my view the Oprah interview was a game changer, some see it positively, I don’t.

I do on occasion defend Kate when she’s dragged into Sussex-based drama. I don’t like nasty belittling posts, whoever they’re aimed at.

Hope that’s a clear response, more than I intended to say but hey ho…

LivelyBlake · 16/05/2023 13:05

The court session is now finished

From Sky:

Although former journalist Graham Johnson had been expected to speak today, there appears to have been a mix-up involving the legal team representing Prince Harry and the other claimants.
It turns out he is not available to come to court today, and will instead be cross-examined tomorrow

Whaeanui · 16/05/2023 13:15

Thank you @LivelyBlake I’m having trouble finding updates and in a hurry!
