Part 2: The Press & The Royals a discussion

Following on from this thread: Part 1 https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_royal_family/4786923-the-press-the-royals-a-discussion?page=1

As we know, the press often manufacture stories to create divisions between the women in the family, more often than the men. They have also hacked private communications, with cases ongoing. The public seem to feed off this and none of the family get treated very well except the monarch-although not always.

For discussion: do we think it is possible for the royal family to stay relevant and in the publics mind without their unhealthy relationship with the media, and how can they achieve that? How will previous and current legal proceedings alter the relationship?
Please do not intentionally derail this thread by discussing your personal dislike of particular family members or if they deserve it. I would really like to continue this discussion on how the royal family and the press interact, as above.

The Press & The Royals: a discussion | Mumsnet

As we were just having a great discussion on this topic I’m going to try again to continue it on a thread of its own. A previous thread highlighted tw...

@8roses but everyone does it and is ever so grateful and they’re so eager to offer it, why not join in?! I have loads of questions on all of the cases id like to ask. No obligation to reply 😊

@Whaeanui
if you are asking other posters for legal advice you should pay their hourly rate - it’s not a free service you know

Serenster is always very very prepared to provide legal expertise a lot. It's her career I believe.

And lots of posters do exactly what @Whaeanui has done. I've seen it all over threads posters asking for clarification from someone who obviously knows. I am not sure why Whaeanui should be treated differently. Unless there is some agenda here.

That's a lot of work😁

8roses · 10/05/2023 19:24

@Roussette if you’re expecting a free service relying on someone else es expertise , a bit of politeness wouldn’t go amiss -

oooh yes I have a whole secret agenda - what the hell?! 😂😂

Whaeanui · 10/05/2023 19:24

Does anyone know if there’s ever been claims that any of the tabloid groups either involved or alleged to be involved in hacking, have hacked Prince Andrew?

@8roses I give out a similar level of politeness, in fact actually a greater level usually, to what I receive.

At 1907 Out of the days proceedings @Iwasafool is there honestly nothing else you’d like to talk about? That guys a dick, I have no idea of his involvement but seems like a weird focus truly. What did you think of MGN’s defence?

Whaeanui · 10/05/2023 19:30

Iwasafool · 10/05/2023 19:26

Really, where was I rude to you?

I didn’t think I was rude to you, certainly it wasn’t my intention. I asked a genuine question, as my point in starting the thread was to discuss the press and this case seems important so why are so many posters suddenly here talking about Scobie’s face? Amongst so much more important stuff? That’s not rude, it’s a genuine question. Why?

OP posts:
Whaeanui · 10/05/2023 19:32

But could we get back to the topic? Did you have any thoughts on what the barrister said about their defence? I am actually interested. Am I the only one shocked they say some stories came from the royal family? As a defence to the claims.

Who cares- Harry might win - he’s still a knob

I think you've been quite snippy to people in the last half hour or so. Maybe you don't realise how your tone can come across. Actually whatever you started this thread for we can broaden it out. More than one thing can be important and Scobie being a witness and being less than honest is of interest to more than one of us.

Whaeanui · 10/05/2023 19:35

Well it’s more than Harry and it could have other ramifications like possibly raising the issue of Leveson 2. Surely that matters to you? No?

What... just calling Harry a knob?

That's hardly a discussion is it...

It has been an interesting thread and there's nothing wrong with trying to actually discuss the top in question is there?

Well I didn't call him a knob, in fact I didn't call anyone a knob so not sure why that has anything to do with me. I don't think I've mentioned Harry.

Whaeanui · 10/05/2023 19:40

@Iwasafool I looked back over the last half hour at my 4 posts and I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m mostly talking to you. Within the last hour other people posting here have had actual deletions. As I said, I wasn’t intending to be rude to you. In my opinion, I think people who deliberately derail to annoy people are being rude.

Whaeanui · 10/05/2023 19:41

@Roussette what did you think of the MGN defence today? I’m also wondering I think they at least initially said Harry at least was out of time on some but then they’ve offered compensation for the UGI they admit to?

I apologise. I meant three posts above mine someone calling him a knob. Which hardly contributes to discussion which was your point.

Oh! He was probably too boorish and dull and pompous but couldn’t that be USEFUL!

good question!

I have not followed it closely today but they are holding fast, making the odd apology here and there, but denying phone hacking.

I felt so sorry for Nicki Sanderson, I remember her, and vaguely recall some awful headlines about her.

There are far more involved in this than we first thought, I didn't realise she was.

I agree!! How weird that it’s not him huh! They hacked the bloody heir ( Charles ) but not his creepy dodgy brother.
