Even as a child Harry was racist

How many times can Harry be excused as having unconscious bias? He was already making fun of people’s accents even as a child.

According to a new book that's coming out from Robert Jobson:

When he was a little boy, around eight years old, his mother took him and William for a ride on a London bus as a treat, arranged by her police protection officer Inspector Ken Wharfe.

On the bus, Diana had to tell Harry to stop mimicking the Sikh bus conductor’s pronounced Punjabi accent every time a passenger pressed the bell to get off. The conductor, a jovial chap wearing a bright yellow turban, was relaxed about Harry’s casual racism, but Diana was so mortified that she eventually told Ken Wharfe to abandon the trip.

Diana, Ken, William and Harry all got off at Green Park and Diana immediately smacked Harry and told him: ‘Don’t you ever do that again.’

Afterwards, she made Harry write to Inspector Wharfe to apologise for his behaviour and for spoiling the day he’d arranged for the boys.
I have spoken to Wharfe, who confirms the incident, and I have also seen the letter, still in his possession, in which Harry jokes about the phrase he used.

As he was a child at the time, he can probably be forgiven — but the incident demonstrates that on one issue at least, Diana was in complete agreement with Charles. She would not tolerate any form of racism from their two sons.

Jesus Christ. If this story was true, this is a failing on the part of his parents. It isn't even a racist issue. It is a small child mimicking an accent he doesn't hear often. I would also stop my child doing it but it doesn't make that child fucking racist.

My grandfather was Indian and I always remember having to say to my mum that I didn't understand what he was saying to me. Was I a racist child?

if it was a one time thing I wouldn’t say it was racist, but he has said and done racist things as an adult so this to me shouldn’t be treated in isolation. He was taught not to make fun of people when he was 8 years old, he did it again when he was 12 or 13 when he mocked a person with a disability, and continued on as an adult.

Never heard so much bullshit in my life.

This

Greenshake · 07/04/2023 21:51

Just for balance, to all those saying racism is taught within the home. I was raised in a home where there was overt racism and discriminatory language was common. I am absolutely not like that and actively stand up to/challenge racism.

Not born evil, but someone who clearly never learned since he was a child that making fun of people for looking and sounding different from him is wrong?

Then that’s the fault of his parents not the child.

@magicthree yes it is racists to mimick someone's accent. Do it in a workplace and see if HR don't pull you up on it.

Just to be clear I don't believe a word from OP. Racism is taught within the home I'm just saying generally not regarding H.

Why don’t you believe it? If it’s wrong harry can sue. After all, he’s not afraid to take on the media. And Jobson claims to have seen a letter from Harry to ken wharf about the incident so there seems to be evidence to back up his claim.

Gingerkittykat · 07/04/2023 21:53

Get a grip, how do you know this incident was true? Presumably there would have been a date on a letter which would have given his exact age if it existed.

I'm sure Diana would smack her child in public.

I'm sure they would get off the bus at a random stop, it's not like a trip would be planned around security arrangements.

Similarly, why would they be getting a public bus tour when they could have arranged a private one for security reasons.

Punkyspunky · 07/04/2023 21:57

FFS- give it a rest!

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/04/2023 21:58

I don't think your post makes the point you think it does OP.

Changedmymindtoday · 07/04/2023 22:00

Don’t know why, but I thought this was a Harry Potter thread.

snore.

ScreamingBeans · 07/04/2023 22:01

A child mimicking someone's accent isn't racist. It's a child playing with sounds, language, accent. It's a discovery that someone talks differently to them, it's exciting and interesting. The kneejerk lazy response that it's racist is boring and stupid.

Other than that, I don't give a shit about Harry, his smacking mamma or his unsmacking wife. Or the inlaws. So what.

WouldYouLikeYourMuffinButtered · 07/04/2023 22:03

Did buses even have conductors then?

GettingThereCharleyBear · 07/04/2023 22:03

His grandparents were both racist too - Phillip very overtly so. It’s no surprise it runs through the family but everyone thought it was cute and endearing when Liz & Phil did it 🙄🤬.

BCBird · 07/04/2023 22:04

I am.an ethnic minority. My mom.said she had to tell.me off because the first time I saw a Sikh man I shouted, there's Father Christmas 😫I am not racist. I think things said when you are 8,as OP has mentioned, are not indicative of being racist. You don't fully understand the implications

Bepis · 07/04/2023 22:04

Was he mocking the accent or was he impersonating it? There is a difference.

StaunchMomma · 07/04/2023 22:07

Tis thread is genuinely pathetic, especially the title.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 07/04/2023 22:08

This is so bad that it’s funny 😄

I dislike Harry but come on.

Menstrualcycledisplayteam · 07/04/2023 22:10

This is literally the only thing this OP posts about. If I had my tin hat on, I'd guess paid-for dark PR on behalf of the Daily Mail, in advance of Harry (and others) privacy cases.

LadyWithLapdog · 07/04/2023 21:25

Diana smacked Harry?

Smacked not battered. Back in the olden days it is what a lot of parents done. Now you may think it doesn't work but neither does the discipline of the last 20 years. So both generations have got it wrong.

I mean if I take a dump at work with the door open HR would probably pull me up on it, but my 8 year old has definitely done it before. I don’t think 8 year olds can generally be trusted to behave in a way that would be acceptable to most HR departments.

I think the whole lot of them are a joke to be honest. They’re totally disconnected from the normal human experience. So whether he did it or not who knows? It’s a bit like when you hear one of the Kardashians has married a turtle they found in the sewer or something. You just think ‘man, they’re crazy. Well, never mind.’

purpledalmation · 07/04/2023 22:13

Harry is so arrogant and tone deaf this doesn't surprise me at all.

MamoruHisaishi · 07/04/2023 22:15

If Diana was mortified enough to smack harry and end the trip and make him write a letter of apology, then surely it must have been bad enough to have warranted such actions from his own mother. And to all who keep dismissing this, it just shows that harry already knew as a child that making fun of others was wrong, but he continued to do it even as an adult. A one time incident as a child can be dismissed but this is an ongoing pattern for him.

you seem to know enough about me to follow my posts? I guess I must have my own stalker here. So what if I post about this celebrity? Why does it bother you so much? Yeah he does bother me because he claims the mantle of fighting against racism within the royal family when he himself is a perpetrator of it.

SirenSays · 07/04/2023 22:19

From the title I thought OP was just really pissed off at Harry Potter

MamoruHisaishi · 07/04/2023 22:23

Again, if this was a one time incident, I wouldn’t consider it as racist but even as an adult, Harry has worn a nazi costume, called someone a frog, called someone a paki, a rag head, described killing people of colour as a joy and like playing a video game, told someone they didn’t sound black, and defended someone who said something racist to another person. He has also mocked a person with a disability coz they weren’t good looking. Harry making fun of others for their physical appearance or their accent is an ongoing pattern for him.

OP posts:
Singapore4 · 07/04/2023 22:24

@Kanaloa your 8 year old may have done it before but surely you would explain NOT to mimick someone's accent because if someone was to over hear them people would be offended and as a parent someone may assume the child has heard that within the home.

Agree about the Kardashian example though.
