The US media is in a much worse state from what I've seen than UK - but only because the UK currently has the BBC and channel 4 news- and more niche publications like Private Eye.
The print media - is a declining market share with declining influence - and at local and national level is dire straits and has been for some time.
Radio and TV news is in slightly better place though any have concerns both about BBC coverage and biases creeping in and how under attack they are.
I also think post brexit and post covid many more are more skeptical of media coverages and biases and many are making huge strides to take in news from more sources - but it's hard to gauge how widespread that feeling and behavior actually is.
That’s so interesting. Thanks - great post @diflasu.

I agree overall with your comments about the health of US & UK media, that the robustness of the US media has declined overall which is a threat to equality and democracy. I’ll only add that both PBS and C-SPAN in the US provide important nonpartisan broadcast & digital balance, including regional coverage. CNN has lurched right as has the NYT print/digital but are still credible. As are MSNBC and the major networks. Major papers like WA Post and NYT and large regionals are still hanging on - though NYT is less reliable than it used to be. Many US digital outlets are also extremely reliable.
Relatedly, Citizens United is still the biggest and loudest threat to democracy in the US and needs to end.
My earlier point was focused only on what I perceived as an assertion that the US media is somehow more manipulative than the UK media. Even with right-leaning regional broadcast conglomerates and dwindling local print, we will not see in the US the sort of wholesale & coordinated attacks, misinformation, and exploitation (& it’s normalisation) across print & broadcast media that we’ve seen in the UK (in this case, to sway opinion against MM & PH). It’s just not going to happen. Which is why all the wishful thinking “H&M are unpopular in the US” articles, polls and efforts are so silly.
