Sickening and dehumanising and mocking small child.

This man is a member of the royal rota, invited to cover royal engagements.

I hope H&M stay away from the coronation.

Any thoughts on this one?
Russell Brand

Yep. That's wrong too

Coxspurplepippin · 25/03/2023 21:12

Isn't it. I just couldn't remember a thread on here condemning it. The children should be left out of it completely.

There was also some rather horrible commentary on some US TV show about George taking ballet/dance lessons.

Very wrong

I am old, I know all about MJ. (had tickets for his concert in London, then he died) It never occurred to me, not for one minute.

How strange.

Just did a quick Whatsapp poll of friends about my age, 50-60 years, middle class Guardian reading types, and they all immediately identified the reference.

mixedrecycling · 25/03/2023 21:15

i.e. not DM readers! before that accusation was levelled!

Maybe we are misunderstanding each other?

As soon as he said it and said Michael Jackson I knew exactly what he was talking about. However, it never occurred to me that Archie being on the balcony would bring this up. Not should it have.

It was a cheap shot

purpledalmation · 25/03/2023 21:24

Michael Jackson did this nutcase thing with his 'son'. Didn't really hear exactly what the man said with the remark, but no, it's not nice to involve kids. He looks a bit of a nasty arsehole though and I've hear him make nasty comments on other subjects.

purpledalmation · 25/03/2023 21:25

Presumably that was the basis of the remark? Dangling kids over balconies is only associated with MJ. Never seen or heard of it in other areas.

Till now...

And Archie

Upsywavy · 25/03/2023 21:29

I wish everyone would stop talking about Harry, Meghan and their children who may or may not exist- so fucking tedious. Who cares! And before anyone says well you do if you're commenting- only because I'm sick of seeing so many threads, articles and posts about these boring ex royals.

donquixotedelamancha · 25/03/2023 21:30

I'm always stunned how many people don't have a clue how jokes work.

purpledalmation · 25/03/2023 21:32

@Roussette It was a reference to MJ and a very tasteless and nasty joke. I really wouldn't get worked up about it.

I agree with you that it was tasteless and nasty and I call this sort of stuff out. 👍

VixenTodd · 25/03/2023 16:07

Yes, it's to show him off on his birthday to their fans. It wasn't meant in a dangerous way working class LA parents like MJ and Meghan behave that way.

Its not dangerous if the parents are on drugs😆

Hi Vixen.

I see you need a lot of helpre LA.I lived there for many years and canclear up a few things for you.

Micheal Jackson is not from there and did not have an LA accent.

Meghan Markle would not be considered working class. Even if she and her mom did not have a lot of disposable income when she was growing up she was privately educated, in an all girls system, and lived in a firmly middle class area.

4plusthehound · 25/03/2023 21:52

Howsimplywonderful · 25/03/2023 16:32

The posters who were admiring them for keeping their kids faces private and now attacking posters who are asking how are they going to keep their kids faces private if they come

strange logic

I think the objectionable bit is the comparrison to the highly dysfunctional Micheal Jackson.

Interesting provocation and interesting wide eyed innocence.

Actually - not that interesting!

Baggingarea · 25/03/2023 16:41

Is it just me or are some people desperate to find offence in anything?

It is just you Bagging

mixedrecycling · 25/03/2023 21:54

'wide eyed innocence' vs 'making jokes about killing a 4-year-old child'...

Provocation from both sides?

mixedrecycling · 25/03/2023 21:58

Archie on a balcony - no, no link to MJ, especially given the connotations of RF and balcony

Dangling over a balcony - immediate recognition of reference to MJ. Has never occurred in a RF balcony appearance 😀

MJ's child, thankfully, survived.

So not a joke about 'killing a 4-year-old child'

Whaeanui · 25/03/2023 22:04

The royal with the most in common with MJ would be Andrew wouldn’t it….

blitheringblackberries · 25/03/2023 19:32

Let us be clear about what is happening here: this is part of a media hate campaign against Harry and his family. And some responses on here show that it is working.

What is happening is someone mocking a couple who have basically made themselves a laughingstock. It's no different to South Park.

South Park had become irrelvant in the States. They needed to target someone whith a HUGE following to get some attention.

South Oark is cultural reflection any more. It was once but not now.

A better indication would be NY Public Library. There is STILL a 3 week wait for the audio book.

After 10 weeks on the NYT best seller list it is STILL number 2.

My friend works in very high level PR - they are the ones to get apparently and NOBODY can get them.

So! You can laugh. You can sneer. But you cannot deny that they have HUGE appeal in the States.

Howsimplywonderful · 25/03/2023 22:12

🤣

mixedrecycling · 25/03/2023 22:31

'wide eyed innocence' vs 'making jokes about killing a 4-year-old child'...

Provocation from both sides?

People who protest with wide eyed innocence that "it was only a joke" or 'you don't know how jokes work" and so on are usually making shitty jokes.

Jokes that make people snicker reather than laugh.

Jokes that compel others to say "let's not go there".

But - I will concede that is only my opinion.

4plusthehound · 25/03/2023 22:37

I have a wonky keyboard that is driving me bananas!

caringcarer · 25/03/2023 22:58

I recall Michael Jackson dangled one of his kids over a balcony.
