Okay so in nearly 2 years no concrete actions that make any difference to any young child,

myrtleWilson · 22/03/2023 23:17

Quite a few of the recommendations in the CfEC report are evident in the new Family Hubs programme from government- it's not possible to provide a direct link but there is an overlap of language and goals

skullbabe · 22/03/2023 23:17

I’m really glad to hear that she's doing something that seems to align with her interests. Only time will tell how things turn out we can only wish her all the best. Today seems to be one in a series of steps which if they come together may ultimately help many families and children (it is a shame that this is not spear headed by the government - the loss of Sure Start definitely was a real loss for early years development).

I think that Royal clothing is a poisoned chalice and there never be a price point at which people won’t think that they are spending too much.

AskAwayAgain · 22/03/2023 23:43

@myrtleWilson which ones?
The language is similar because both quote the same research into the issues.

I have nothing against Kate. But what qualifies her for this job other than being married to the heir to the throne. All wrong. She has hardly even had a proper job.

I think that her job is something like "princess of the UK" or whatever. And to be fair, she does an absolutely fantastic job of it. It definitely is a proper job and it's a lot harder than many jobs.

iaapap · 22/03/2023 23:52

And her presence at whatever this is draws attention to it. She doesn't have to think the whole thing out.

This is helping children.

Catherine was brains behind Heads Together Campaign. It started with that. And there are a couple of legacy's from that:

Mentally Healthy Schools | Heads Together | Join the conversation

#And grants given to organizations who helps children. That's all in their financial rapport.

#Shout85258 is the first service from #MentalHealth Innovations & the UK's first 24/7 crisis text support service. It was developed by #WilliamandCatherine as a legacy of the @heads_together campaign & was set up with a £3m grant from Will & Kate. #LGBTQ

Mentally Healthy Schools | Heads Together | Join the conversation

In January 2018 The Duchess of Cambridge launched Mentally Healthy Schools – a new landmark project, and the latest initiative from Heads Together.

So that's direct help be it trough money/grants or tools. No she wants to change policy from government and business. That takes time. A lot of time. That's why she has said it will be her life's work

It was a word salad photo op

MrsMaxDeWinter · 24/03/2023 15:32

I don't know much about Kate's personality beyond that she seems bland and dull, if inoffensive, but she did say something on this visit that may suggest she is a little bit self- aware.

She said to a photographer who took her photo on some balcony or other something like: "I am definitely not qualified to be here."

That is true, but in her defence, you don't really need to be qualified to be a Royal patron of anything. The key qualification is an interest and a willingness to learn. That said, given the opportunities available to her train and practice, she is a shockingly poor public speaker.

Charles is a great speaker. Maybe he should give her some tips.

Sorryyoufeelthatway · 24/03/2023 15:35

Oh her hair is magnificent. I am so proud she will be our queen one day. What a credit to mums everywhere!

You are talking about the Foundation. That is a different initiative

Coxspurplepippin · 24/03/2023 15:45

'I don't know much about Kate's personality beyond that she seems bland and dull,'

So you start by saying you don't know much about someone's personality but decide they're bland and dull. Nice one.

Kate isn't there to draw attention to herself, take centre stage, make it all about her. If she did that she'd doubtless be condemned for being pushy and arrogant. She seems like a steadfast, cheerful woman, trying to make a difference while having her every move scrutinised and criticised, having personal comments made about her looks, relationships, clothes, children, official engagements, having done nothing to draw such comments.

AskAwayAgain · 24/03/2023 15:50

@Coxspurplepippin She seems a quiet person which is fine.
I don't think being bland is the same as not taking centre stage. And like all the Royals she does take centre stage for the many photo opps, that is her "job" to take centre stage.
But the Royal women are not supposed to have opinions, so for someone who is naturally quieter it is hard not to come across as bland.

Coxspurplepippin · 24/03/2023 15:53

I don't think it's at all that royal women aren't supposed to have opinions. I'm sure Kate has plenty Grin, but can you imagine the furore if she gave vent to those opinions? She probably has a right old chunter in the privacy of her family.

AskAwayAgain · 24/03/2023 15:55

The Royal women are not supposed to have public opinions.
The Royal men can and do have public opinions though. We know a lot about Charles views for example.

Definition of the word seems:

3rd person present: seems

give the impression of being something or having a particular quality. "Dawn seemed annoyed"

In the sentence above, Dawn seemed annoyed does not mean Dawn was annoyed.

Similarly, in the sentence I wrote, I don't know much about Kate's personality beyond that she seems bland and dull

The word seems means to give the impression of being something or having a particular quality.

I appreciate that English may not be your first language (it is not mine!), so I hope that clears things up.

Hehe! Well... we do as a country concentrate on appearances.....frocks, hair, shoes, coats, ballgowns, jewels, tiaras and outfits in general, rather a bit too much! All of that stuff sells papers but how shallow it all is...

I think the post must have been a parody one, it can't be real

At least she doesn't lie. that's why she is respected. that's why she manages to do the job. 🙄

It's a shockingly low bar when you have to praise someone for the bare minimum that they don't do, rather than what they actually do. By the same token, you could say at least she hasn't murdered anyone.

If your SIL lies all the time you will look better with no effort.

VixenTodd · 24/03/2023 17:30

Does your SIL benefit from it too?

MrsMaxDeWinter · 24/03/2023 17:34

Oh I see. This has now become about the Duchess of Sussex.

You may as well go all the way and say you think Kate is great because she is not a biracial American actress.
