Sussex's snubbed on both sides of the Atlantic

Harry and Meghan will be invited to the coronation - by necessity - but this toxic pair will be kept at a careful arm's length by all and sundry, excluded from the balcony or carriage procession, and probably positioned somewhere suitably inconspicuous. Most of the family will be wary of them, most will wherever possible avoid them and the crowds will likely boo them. There will be no lucrative photo ops with William or Kate. The Wales children will be in the limelight, but Harry and Meghan's children will be excluded, due to age.

Meanwhile, over in the States, where they no doubt expected to be feted when they planned their dramatic departure from the UK, opinion polls reveal them to be less popular now than even Prince Andrew. South Park mocked them to general acclaim and The Cut published a contemptuous piece about the possible relaunch of the Tig last week.

They've been snubbed and excluded from every big social event, from the Met Gala to Obama's birthday party and Elton John's Oscar's bash. The only parties they have attended have been those hosted by social pariahs like Ellen de Generes.

They are coming across as increasingly desperate and embarrassing. It's hard to to see any possible comeback from here.

Well... he has blanked Charles and the Coronation, I know that much!
Evening Cathy 🍷 cheers!

All true.

Maybe he's seen the royal light and 🍷 right back 😁

Interesting. I guess the royals are being snubbed too. Oh dearie me.

Snubbing the King: Why Don’t Big Stars Want to Perform at Charles’ Coronation?

To perform at a royal event in 2023 would be to align yourself with blatant scandal. The recent allegations regarding Prince Andrew’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and an alleged sexual relationship with one of Epstein’s victims are still fresh in people’s minds. And so is Andrew’s disastrous 2019 BBC Newsnight interview about said claims

Diagnosing someone with narcissism for starters? As I said... are you a phsychiatrist?

Narcissism isn't a diagnosis. I suggest you do some research.

Anyone can 'diagnose' anyone with anything on the internet with random articles they read. Is this one of your 'facts'? 😆

Since you don't know Meghan perhaps you should stick to diagnosing yourself only. You're no expert.

This kind of post makes me laugh - you obviously hate them so stop posting about them - the opposite of love is not hate - it's indifference

I don't hate them, tbh I find them highly amusing in their ridiculousness :)

I'm discussing some topical issues relating to some royals, can't see the issue to be fair. Certainly more relevant than some of the recent threads on this board

But you don't know them? They did not have an easy time here. And some rubbish like having to walk behind your brother because he is the future "king", they are just normal people like you and I. I hope they can find happiness just like anyone else should be able to on this planet. We are here for a short time. It is their family business, yes it has been widely publicised. But it doesn't mean we need to feed into it. Or "take sides". Be happy, be kind and don't sweat the small stuff which has absolutely no bearing on your life.

susan12345678 · 18/03/2023 20:52

You want them to be more prominent?! Okaaaaay!

No, but they clearly want to be. They leak endless stories to the press. They live-stream therapy sessions for cash. They even turned up in NY to accept a Kennedy award for exposing the RF as racists, before quietly backtracking, insisting they never called the RF racists and deciding to pronounce their children 'prince' and 'princess'

No, but they clearly want to be.
🤣

Very interesting read !

Yes, and a fascinating article. Times have changed. The Monarchy needs to recognise that.

It really really should've been a pared down Coronation. None of this big concert thing. I honestly think the RF would've gained far more respect for slimmed down attributable to the times a lot of the british public are going through.
I would've respected them for that and it was what I thought would happen.
Sadly, not.

The days of Queen's diamond jubilee etc have gone. We are in a new era and the sooner the RF recognise that, the better.

michaelmacrae · 18/03/2023 22:42

@Roussette Agree. It's a vainglorious exercise for both Charles and Camilla.

purpledalmation · 18/03/2023 22:50

I don't think they want to come to the coronation but I think they have to to make money. I must say the couple have enlivened the whole royal family debate

Catonthehearth · 18/03/2023 22:57

There are many who are looking forward to a coronation with coaches and horses and crowns, with bands and pomp and ceremony, posh frocks and big hats. It's already pretty pared down compared to 1952.

Stop making up shit because dislike Harry and his wife! This is getting ridiculous now.

I tend to think folks like the OP don't have much going on in the real world. Spending time fantasising about two people (he will never meet) being social pariahs really is something.

Why do they need to go to make money? I keep hearing they've made hundreds of millions slagging off the royal family, me thinks they're set for life.

I hope the skip the coronation. Charles may be egged and booed again.

This ! We’ve just had jubilee with all the bells and whistles.
the country is struggling at the moment and a simplified coronation would suit much better.
They need to read the room.

Why would they need to read the room? the papers have the public so focused on hating H&M that they ignore the royals actually living in largesse on the public's dime.

Personally, I hope Charles spends as much as he wants on his coronation 😂

There are many who are looking forward to a coronation with coaches and horses and crowns, with bands and pomp and ceremony, posh frocks and big hats. It's already pretty pared down compared to 1952.

And there are many who are either ambivalent or just don't care.

As far as comparing to 1952, there will be not many comparing as it's 70 years ago! It's still a 3 day extravaganza, thousands attending, concerts (even if they can't get star turns to perform!), gold carriages, crowns and all that malarkey.

Taken from the media..
"The Operation Golden Orb committee, which is planning the ceremony, reportedly estimated that King Charles III's Coronation to cost £100million, although this hasn't been confirmed. Meanwhile, the ceremony for Queen Elizabeth II is estimated to have cost a total of £1.57million, the equivalent of £46million today."

Last year he said it will be shorter (tick), smaller (less guests yes) modest (no!), less expensive (no!)

EdithWeston · 19/03/2023 08:22

It's not really a "three day extravaganza"

Yes it last 3 days, but that's
Day 1: ceremony, procession there and back, Balcony appearance (not that different to Trooping the Colour)
Day 2: concert at Windsor
Day 3: Big Lunch (happens every year anyhow)

There were huge changes to how government departments allocated costs in the 90s. Can you confirm that the figures you are comparing have corrected for those changes?

Howsimplywonderful · 19/03/2023 09:04

Where is your source of these costs ?

tatalan · 19/03/2023 09:10

If the Brits like it, I love it for them. £100million on a coronation while they can't afford electricity/gas and children starve. But Harry and Meghan are being snubbed 😅

milti · 19/03/2023 09:19

@tatalan no children are starving in the UK ! What planet are you on?!

Catonthehearth · 19/03/2023 09:21

So those who don't want the coronation ceremony and associated pageantry, are you objecting because it's to do with the monarchy, or are you objecting on the grounds of cost and think there should be no national days of celebration at all?

Republicans often cite the Bastille Day parades in France as an example of 'see, we don't need a monarchy to still have national days of celebration' so it would seem it's not actually the parades and marching and bands and associated costs etc that people object to, but just the fact that it's happening because 'monarchy'.

There's an awful lot of hyperbole here. Even if it does cost £100m, that is a tiny, tiny % of annual government spend - something like 0.00083%. £100m is about £1.42 per head of population. Not spending it isn't going to heat and feed the population. You may not want your £1.42 going towards the coronation, but be honest, it's not going to do much spending it elsewhere is it? Certainly not going to solve all the ills of the world.

milti · 19/03/2023 09:21

@tatalan looks like you find it funny as well - hope you’re nice and warm wherever you are

It is stupid to think that an old institution cares about a dim rebel and a bimbo who are gone and forgotten. Many things influence arrangements.
