The anti-monarchy protests seem to be increasing. They are appearing regularly at events Charles attends. This one happened only yesterday.

The protests are still too small to make any major difference, but they are slowly growing. And importantly Elizabeth did not face these types of protests. I wonder if they will continue to grow.

TBF, it's organised by Republic, isn't it.

I have to say they are bolder and more visible than ever. They could not garner this much support during HMQE times could they?

Charles and camilla will have to watch their steps.

Yes it is organised, most people protesting attend organised protests.

I don't want a Republic.

I don't have much respect for Charles and Camilla.

They are a pair of cheats, so religious and environmental hypocrites.

I don't like Harry, everything we all suffer due to him - loss of trade and increased security issues - is as a direct result of their selfishness.

Roussette · 14/03/2023 13:27

Blimey I had no idea Harry leaving affects everything we suffer. Nothing to do with an inept cronyism government, loss of trade all Harry's fault! Who'd have thought it? There's me thinking useless government, and Brexit, Covid and Ukraine.... but no it's Harry!
Ridiculous!

LadyKenya · 14/03/2023 13:29

Well said@Roussette. Funny enough, what Harry does has no effect on my life.

JuliesBicycle · 14/03/2023 13:30

Yeah they were busy saying we did not need Harry, and now he has left he has become a key person who is destroying everything.

You took the words out of my mouth.

😂

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 14/03/2023 13:36

They can protest all they want, he is their king though. They just don't have to like it. The monarchy isn't going to stop because of a few protests.

Ask a Mother with a son in the armed forces what effect Harry has had, the same with increased security issues for us all.

As for the environment - Charles and William as hypocritical as Harry and I don't want to hear it from any of them.

AlexandriasWindmill · 14/03/2023 13:48

The problem is republic wants an elected head of state. Basically they're saying they'd rather have someone like the current crop of Tories ie someone who will prioritise international conglomerates; look the other way when process is ignored if it suits them (eg Johnson proroguing parliament); sell off national assets and properties. Of course they're more visible just now, their income suddenly increased last year.

I'm not a monarchist but the current government means I have absolutely no faith in a republic with an elected head.

JuliesBicycle · 14/03/2023 14:19

Instead we have a man who accepts million pounds in cash in a suitcase and a brother who should be a convicted sex offender and used taxpayers money to make lots of dodgy financial deals. And a family who have negotiated exemption from lots of laws.

And don't forget, a queen who signed off on Johnson proroguing parliament. She could have referred that to be checked for legality.

The Irish president has, on a number of occasions, referred a law to the supreme court to determine its constitutionality before signing it in to law.

WOW bit of scapegoating there!

Actually blame this one on the media, they revealed he had killed Taliban back in 2013 - putting both his life and ours at risk. Harry addressed it in his book, putting it in his own context, from his own perspective. He was a soldier, doing his what he was trained to do. The media again blew it up when the book came out. That's twice they've sensationalised it, yet it's all Harry's fault.

I am sure I saw that the Irish president - like some odd men in the Irish administrative roles is all for teaching small children some very odd sex education, much like the American presidential representative. They seem to go for much broader and younger targets than Andrew.

Best thing I've read on Mn in years 😂😂😂😂😂

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/03/2023 14:44

It's unlikely to ever happen.
Potentially there could be some scaling back of the state related work but I can't see any gov ever putting forward republican legislation.

adrianmolesmole · 14/03/2023 14:46

It's Charles and Camilla's own fault if there are protests. No one's forgotten Diana. You reap what you sow.

Inkanta · 14/03/2023 14:49

Anyway, I think I'm turning republic. I used to admire the queen but I think it all needs winding down. Charles and Camilla won't be loved and respected like the queen. The protests will continue.

Serenster · 14/03/2023 14:54

As I pointed out on another thread, I’d think very poorly of a Republican organisation, called “Republic” that didn’t bother organising placards and protestors in the immediate lead up to the UK’s first coronation of a new monarch for 70 years! It’s kind of the bare minimum a dedicated protest organisation should be doing, really 😀

I fully expect we’ll see lots of protests leading up to the coronation, as it happens. Doesn’t mean they represent the majority though (and of course every protest has been dwarfed by the number of supporters of the monarchy who have turned out for the same event, but they get overlooked I note).

MarshaMelrose · 14/03/2023 15:05

It's the same few people, organised by the same group. Meh.
I'm happy for people to protest but don't ruin the enjoyment of other people all the time. If they feel there's a groundswell of discontentment then go do interviews, writenarticles, et up petitions, etc. But don't ruin what for a lot of people is a pleasurable moment.

adrianmolesmole · 14/03/2023 15:35

@Enthrallingstoryofstillnessandlight yes, Diana.

JuliesBicycle · 14/03/2023 15:48

Did not happen to the Queen though.
