The royal family

How do republicans who support H&M feel about 'princess' lillibet

I mean how do you reconcile the, to me, gross hypocrisy of saying you want to leave the royal family to pursue your own projects and for privacy and would give up their royal titles.

Their own projects so far consist of trashing the royal family and making money from it, while clinging to their royal titles.

Privacy consists of reality tv shows, public therapy sessions and a book tour.

They touted their children's privacy and security as a reason for leaving yet they name their children prince and princess. A sure fire way to draw attention to them and reduce their security.

I honestly want to know how people who want the monarchy gone yet praise harry and Meghan for their bravery in standing up to the RF, square this circle?

We celebrate the birth of a healthy baby girl to a couple who are deeply in love, as we would for anybody else, without prejudice, if asked.

Oops, that old name keeps rearing its head, the above comment is me.

Teeheeeheee · 09/03/2023 10:25

Now you're stuck with the first name on the thread and you'll keep having to manually change to the last one whenever you try to post.

Teeheeeheee · 09/03/2023 10:28

I agree OP and I think the RF has had its day.

Supporting a family is one thing but they must want the RF to continue if they're supporting those who're capitalising on its benefits. One leg in, one leg out.

BethDuttonsTwin · 09/03/2023 10:32

“Racism!” “Abuse!” “Disloyalty!” “Negligence!” “Cruelty!”

Titles and permanent links for my kids to the toxic family and organisation responsible?

Where do I sign?!

😆

EdithWeston · 09/03/2023 10:33

There's no need for inverted commas

It's her title, and her brother is Prince Archie of Sussex

Teeheeeheee · 09/03/2023 10:42

Reminds me of those who also feel the same way about the RF and are warriors on Twitter but couldn't sprint fast enough to collect their OBE when it was offered and couldn't stop raving about it with excuses of why it's impooorrtant. 🤡

Teeheeeheee · 09/03/2023 10:45

The British Empire, even. Not just the RF.

I don't understand why Republicans would be particularly supportive of Harry and Megan?

Princess is just a made up title; in so far as it has a basis in traditition they have as much 'right' to use it as any other member of the RF. Obviously it's hypocritical but so is much of what Harry says, it would have been very out of character for them to have given up any fancy title- they love that shit.

A plague on all their houses.

What’s that got to do with Lilibets title?

Bingpt · 09/03/2023 10:53

I'd view it in the same light as Katie Price calling her daughter Princess. Not much different, trying to be cutesy. It's just a name. If they are no longer working as royals, they can do what they like anyway can't they? They didn't need approval from her father-in-law to change her name.
What happens next? This is where they try to get all the benefits of being "royal" but without the responsibilities.
Will be interesting to watch over the next few years.

Sistanotcista · 09/03/2023 10:54

I'm not a royalist at all, but seen in context of the family, it makes sense to me. Harry and Meghan don't want to be a part of The Firm anymore - absolutely their choice, and I can understand why. Their kids might feel differently - let them have their birthright - when they're older they can decide whether they want to keep it, or not.

The healthy baby girl was born getting on for two years ago however.

I think we have about as much chance of getting an answer on this as we do on why they stubbornly ignore the fact that Harry and Meghan never wanted to 'leave' and always desperately wanted to be associated with the monarchy.

No one would be taking their birth right away. They could still opt in when older. The parents have decided to use it from now. Weird.

It's a 'birthright' which can be removed by Charles or any future monarch with the stroke of a pen.

And the 'birthright' would still be theirs whether they use it or not. The Wessexes' kids are also entitled to be prince and princess but their parents chose for them not to use it. But assuming the laws don't change in the meantime, it would still be their 'birthright' to use the titles as adults.

It seems ridiculous for two kids growing up in California, whose parents' career is based on slagging off the monarchy, having the title of prince and princess.

Novella4 · 09/03/2023 11:01

How weird . OP it sounds like you think royalty is real ! Are you quite ok?

Titles are made up nonsense . 'Letters patent ' makes me laugh .
Cosplay .

Harry was always the son of the 'king' - nothing changes that if you believe in all the feudal rubbish.

In fact the question is also - if you are a real 'royalist' you should be kneeling to Harry and not picking and choosing who you recognise - shouldn't you ?

Starflecked · 09/03/2023 11:02

I doubt anyone is surprised by the hypocrisy.

I shall need to do more homework, though in a Christian context she has been re-born into the Christian Church.

Schmutter · 09/03/2023 11:03

I’m a republican. Not particularly supportive of anyone, but I did love Harry’s book.

I guess as the grand-daughter of the king, they wanted to use her title. It’s all a bit meaningless. I’m more bothered about that gopping name - Lilibet. It’s awful!

Given his aversions to pens, that may never happen...

Don't think about it at all. Tbh. Literally have no opinion. They aren't my family

I liked Harry's book too.
So did millions of people round the world .

All the clumsy attempts to reduce 'spare' to a few sound bites are falling flat .
