After all the excruciating embarrassment of the 'Spare memoirs' it is quite striking to realise that the only person who could actually topple the monarchy is the apparently 'cheated on' Kate Middleton. If he did and she forgave; the power is all within her hands. The public won't accept another Diana and she is the nearest thing. With her 3 small children and she has done her 'duty'. Harry is indeed a spare, his book and media tour oozes contempt and jealousy and yet if Kate pulls the plug out of the sink they are all fecked. This is the jealousy that MMarkle has. She is a small fish in Kate's pond.

What a load of nonsense. The only way the monarchy could be "toppled" (assuming we won't have a bloody coup) would be by an Act of Parliament and none of the main political parties have any appetite for that. All the Royal nonsense distracts the plebs from their own bullshit.

What power do you imagine Kate would have? Women who forgive cheating husbands usually just give them the power to cheat again. Because if she forgives it once, she’s likely to forgive it again.

I don’t understand your post.

If William did cheat, he’s in the company of nearly half of the married population and following in the footsteps of every previous King. It would hardly be groundbreaking scandal.

For a lot of the population the news would elicit a tut or two, or a ‘meh’ and that would be it.

But (bored though I am of the saga) this poster has a point. Diana didn’t topple the monarchy, although she came close, in part because attitudes towards adultery, divorce and the RF were much more subservient and conservative in her lifetime and also because she was obviously damaged.

Fast forward 30 years and attitudes have changed massively. People are increasingly tired of the idea that the Royals are above the usual moral rules of society and there isn’t the support for them that there was.

I’m no particular fan of Kate Middleton but I think she has a certain power precisely because she has been obedient and toed the line so much. If someone so composed and with so much to lose from going nuclear chose to do so it would have a huge impact on public tolerance.

I don’t remember Diana being really popular before she died.

I can’t see Kate doing anything to rock any boat, she’s been brought up for this role, and will likely see it through no matter what.

Yes, this is my view. The whole thing is clearly an invention and a very cruel one, including for the other couple involved. You only have to look at W&K’s body language to see that this is nuts.

She's the Princess of Wales, OP. Not Kate Middleton. And I very much doubt she could 'topple the monarchy,' even if she wanted to. 'Royal man had mistress' isn't exactly ground breaking news. 'Royal man might have had mistress' even less so.

Kate definitely has more power. Plenty of women (and some men) forgive cheating, royal or not.

I read the ridiculous comments about it being the norm in Royal families, cheating happens across the classes has none of you seen the axed Jeremy Kyle show?
