AIBU to think lots of engagements are not "work"?

Just reading the Court Circular and I am struck once again by the reality that many engagements can not remotely be called work.
So just looking at January so it is clear I am not cherry picking over many months, there are the following engagements.

  1. Anne went to a Dinner with the Caledonian Hunt
  2. The Duke of Kent attended a carol service
  3. Duchess of Gloucester, Patron, the Arts Society, today held a Meeting via telephone with Dr. Florian Schweizer (Chief Executive). So basically a phone call.
  4. Anne attended lunch at the Royal Yachting Association.

It is not even the time of year to attend Film Premiers, tennis matches, football matches and theatre premiers.

King Charles a nd Camilla came to.Bolton today , i.was going to.go but it's very icy and cold today in Bolton from what I saw on the Bolton news website ,they were driven to.the town hall inn a luxurious car ,lots of waving at the thousands of onlookers ,ushered into the town hall lots of smiling and chatting to local dignitaries, charity workers some chosen svhool.children ,I think they stayed an hour maybe two ,it's not exactly racing .

^^ This

Anyone who has reallly worked at presentations, who has been waiting to hear from someone for figures to present, who has sweated on the top line about getting to the venue on time, will it all hang together and work, getting up at 5am to check you have what you need to attend the function, why don't I have those figures? Why am I waiting on someone! .... will know what I am trying to say.

Every single thing they do is co-ordinated, scripted, fed to members of the RF. How easy is that?

They might work. It's not hard work. It's easy work. Fed to you. Just smile, look good, ignore the questions you don't like, move on.

Princess Anne carried out 214 engagements last year while watching her mother fade away and grieving for her in the 45 weekdays she didn't work ....she's 72 and will like the queen probably carry on until she dies

I'm sure I could put a smile on my face and force myself through it for the money they have. I'm sure it's worth the effort twice a month or however much it is that 'work'

Anne is 72 doing 214 engagements grieving her mother...if she's Ill she still goes how often do you call in sick avoiding eating shit you don't like talking to boring people about stuff you don't have an interest in for hours on end....let alone for the last 52 years or more.....she did less last year than normal.

HaveYouSeenNancy · 20/01/2023 21:12

If you think that's easy money op, wait till you hear this...

There's some guy all over social media at the moment that reportedly got paid about £20 million for moaning about his extraordinarily privileged life to an author. The kind of work you're writing about was hard graft by comparison, so he bailed.

But often a day will have 4 or 5 engagements. She is not working for over 200 days.
She has worked 9 days this year according to the Court Circular.

Four or five engagements plus travel would be a very long day. And it’s 20 January, most people have only worked 12 days this year.

Roussette · 20/01/2023 21:18

William has done two engagements this year. Hardly hard work is it?

AttentionAll · 20/01/2023 21:21

@Blossomtoes I do not know where you work. Most people have worked 14 days this year.

Which are those? Because he has been photographed at more than 2 in recent days.

If it’s recorded as 2 it’s either not upto date or simply inaccurate.

I looked at the Court Circular. I am quoting them. Last engagement 19th January.

I do apologise. 3 engagements.

Wow!

(I've just double checked)

I very much doubt she goes anywhere if she's sick

Like I said, she probably does more than most of them

If she or any of the others don't like it they don't have to do it , not a bad life though even if you have to talk to boring people about stuff you aren't interested in . There are other jobs out there if they find royal duties boring

Serenster · 20/01/2023 21:38

Going by what’s been reported in the press, since January 12th he has:

Opened Royal Liverpool University Hospital
Visited Open Door Charity
Visited Aik Saath Charity
Visited DePaulUK Charity
Videocalled people affected by the flooding in Australia

He also had a private engagement on Monday that prevented him attending the funeral of Former King Constantine.

So, double what is reported in the Court Circular. It’s not exhaustive. QED.

Zola1 · 20/01/2023 21:41

Sounds like work to me... in my job I regularly do phone call meetings, I regularly have to go out places with families (soft play, the park, whatever). It's all work because I don't enjoy it and dont want to be there.

And if that's all you think it takes good luck with your new career.

TimeToFlyNow · 20/01/2023 21:43

Anyway, I'm sure they get a choice in what they do and what charities they support

No reason to think they are bragging themselves around bored stiff

Wow! Touchy much? Where did I say you needed to apologise or even hint you had done something that would need an apology?

I know you what you were quoting. That’s why said ‘ it’s not up to date’.

and yes, it’s been more than 3. Again it appears it’s not accurate.

Sorry that seems to bother you so much.

TimeToFlyNow · 20/01/2023 21:48

*dragging

Forthelast · 20/01/2023 21:51

They'd be hard work to an introvert, that's for sure.

I don't care a fig!

All I know is... they present themselves on the Court Circular. How else can we see what they're doing?!

Again - it's not a timesheet

Do you honestly honestly think this is like anyone with a full time pressured job?

It ain't.

Roussette · 20/01/2023 21:56

wordler · 20/01/2023 21:53

Again - it's not a timesheet

So... why do they list a telephone call then?

Because they do.

It's all padding out a very very part time job

Samcro · 20/01/2023 21:56

I think it all depends
william going to the Football Final is not work, same with Kate going to Wimbledon.
camila spending the day at a special needs school (and meeting dd) that’s work.
these are just examples.
they get paid a lot and get to do a lot of things because of who they are.

AttentionAll · 20/01/2023 21:58

And that is over 14 days that normal people have worked.

Of course 'it ain't ' but I highly doubt that's all the work that's been done. We know you don't like the RF but to think that all the work they do is that which is in the court circular is a bit daft.
