William was in the wrong re Harry’s wedding

Re William didn’t stay over with Harry the night before his wedding and caused a fuss about having to go to the hotel he was in the night before for dinner. As his only brother and as best man he should’ve been there with him. We hear all the time how wonderful and amazing Catherine’s family are - surely on the occasion of his only sibling getting married her parents could’ve come over to help her with her newborn and the children for the night. They have nannies and cleaners and staff so not exactly short of help in general.

my DH has only one brother too. He got married when my baby was 6 weeks old post a difficult c-section. We went to the hotel for 3 nights - so DH could have drinks with his brother and bridal party the night before, the night of the wedding and the night after the wedding. I was fine with this as it was his only siblings wedding. Yes it was difficult for me and exhausting but it was important to us both that we made a big effort for his DBro especially as (like Harry) they were missing a parent at the wedding.

from my view either William or Catherine or both didn’t care enough to put themselves out for Harry and his wedding which reflects poorly on them.

So I can understand Harry’s disappointment on the day itself - he probably remembered what a lovely night together they’d had before William’s wedding and had wanted to recreate it for himself. Not understanding at that point the difference between two bachelors in their 20s and a man in his late 30s with 3 kids including a 3 week old.

Where he loses me is that he writes this out as a slight on William FIVE years later after he has had two kids himself. There’s no self reflection in this book on this incident and other incidents which shows he now understands other peoples’ actions because he now gets the context having more experience himself.

Kind of all suggests he just assumed that's what they'd be doing and didn't actually arrange it with him beforehand.

Also, doing something once doesn't make it a tradition.

@Eyerollcentral The chapel held 600 people. There was an afternoon reception and evening reception. The afternoon reception, a luncheon for 600 people, was hosted by the Queen. The evening reception was only 200 close family and friends. Everyone at the chapel was invited to a reception, but not necessarily the evening reception.

What a bunch of bastards the royal family are setting all that up for Meghan and Harry. What they really wanted was fish paste sandwiches in the back garden three days before.

I don’t believe for a second that Harry engages fully in the day after day drudge of “parenting”. They obviously have very solid full time child care arrangements in place - no criticism - shown by their being able to be away from home for several weeks for their mini tour followed by the unexpected death of QE & her funeral. I used to work for a very well known celeb, the child was always with two devoted nannies and very busy Mum & Dad would come and spend twenty minutes here or there during the day. I feel like Meghan probably does more but I just don’t get that vibe from Harry.

Well you know they did.

The palace was in charge of the wedding date and guest list (they told them not to invite Ashley). So no, H&M were not selfishly picking a date. Security and diaries had to be arranged etc.

None of the Royals engage in the day to day work of looking after children. They all have nannies and staff.

It’s what he calls the courtiers who put endless hours into trying to find a mutually agreeable solution to Megxit. He blames them for not getting half in/ half out when according to Valentine Low it was actually the Queen who vetoed it.

They were working endless hours, super hard.........at sabotaging H&M.

@BethDuttonsTwin
Yip that might be a better explanation as to why he still doesn't have much empathy for a woman 3 weeks after giving birth. I was starting to think their might be something in the surrogacy theory.

Do you think William and Kate are fairly hands on?

ArcaneWireless · 18/01/2023 13:47

If only they’d had a crystal ball to watch Harold do it all by himself by chatting shite about his icy penis.

They could have had their beslippered feet up in front of the telly eating jaffacakes instead.

Hmmm, in the book Harry is outraged because William rejects St Paul’s and Westminster Abbey for the ceremony and suggests a much smaller venue. He says something like ‘Really William? And how many would that seat?’. So I don’t buy this nonsense about we were forced to have a big wedding.

Two sides of the same story. You either believe one of them wholesale or think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Blossomtoes · 18/01/2023 13:49

And I love the disparaging “middle aged white men”. Just like Harry then.

Mommabear20 · 18/01/2023 13:50

And if he had gone, people would say he was out drinking and leaving his wife at home to look after the children! He was in a no win situation so made the decision that suited him and his family best.

I did laugh at that but. The guy’s in another world

moonwitchmum · 18/01/2023 13:53

DH also has only one brother, who isn’t married yet but I know full well that BIL wouldn’t expect DH to leave me with a newborn just to be with him the night before his wedding.

Well now that the big wedding WAS going to happen, why put in a shabby venue.
Just leave them with their small backyard thing and not televise the thing then.

Also, the suit stars were at the reception.

I didn’t say otherwise, but I don’t have to qualify every post I make by saying so 🙄

I'm not so sure Kate mentioned not having staff on Anglesey.
I genuinely think her and William do a lot of the school drops and pick ups themselves mainly because someone on here mentioned regularly passing them. Not that I believe everyone on MN.

Ach right, so basically anything Harry actually says you’re just going to plough on with your own theory. I am sure if Harry had been forced in to the big wedding he would have written about it in detail. The only thing he does complain about is not having a grand enough venue and wants the same as the heirs to the throne had. If they all hate them so much why would they have been so insistent on a big show case wedding anyway??
They were at the stand up lunch. Not the evening reception. Bet Oprah was at the whole thing despite never having clapped eyes on either of them before, just like George and Amal

Winterday1991 · 18/01/2023 14:14

I agree OP its bad form on William. Perhaps due to the alleged affair Kate has banned him from going out.

Yes, he's adopted the asinine use of 'white' as an insult, never mind that he's as white as can be himself.

And he also seems to be labouring under the illusion that he is young, despite not being too far from 40 himself.

St. George's Chapel, a royal peculiar of great historical importance, is now a 'shabby venue'?

You know you really don't help your 'cause' with this utter shyte, don't you?

wordler · 18/01/2023 14:31

One little detail I had never noticed is that only the direct heirs to the throne get to use a red carpet for their wedding in the church.

The others get a blue one - Andrew, Edward, Anne, Eugenie, Margaret - H&M chose not to have a carpet at all.

I wonder if that was a fit of pique? Maybe they demanded a red carpet and when that was refused, said 'OK then. We'll have none at all!". They looked quite strange walking on the bare floor.
