Queen offered Meghan a choice of tiaras

Below is an extract that describes Meghan being given the tiara to wear for her wedding by the Queen. Another passage describes hoe Angela Levin would not allow Meghan to get access to the tiara before her wedding to practise it with her hairdresser.

"Next came the question of a tiara. My aunts asked if Meg would like to wear my mother’s. We were both touched. Meg then spent hours and hours with her dress designer, getting the veil to match the tiara, giving it a similar scalloped edge. Shortly before the wedding, however, Granny reached out. She offered us access to her collection of tiaras. She even invited us to Buckingham Palace to try them on. Do come over, I remember her saying.
Extraordinary morning. We walked into Granny’s private dressing room, right next to her bedroom, a space I’d never been in. Along with Granny was a jewelry expert, an eminent historian who knew the lineage of each stone in the royal collection. Also present was Granny’s dresser and confidante, Angela. Five tiaras were arrayed on a table, and Granny directed Meg to try on each one before a full-length mirror. I stood behind, watching.
One was all emeralds. One was aquamarines. Each was more dazzlingly stunning than the last. Each took my breath. I wasn’t the only one. Granny said to Meg quite tenderly: Tiaras suit you.
Meg melted. Thank you, Ma’am.
One of the five, however, stood out. Everyone agreed. It was beautiful, seemingly made for Meg. Granny said it would be placed in a safe directly and she looked forward to seeing it on Meg’s head come the Big Day. Make sure, she added, that you practice putting it on. With your hairdresser. It’s tricky and you don’t want to be doing it for the first time on the wedding day."

Spare, Harry

He’s as bad as Trump, another person who thought it was okay to mock peoples disabilities and treat less attractive people as worthless

@babsanderson he wasn’t 8. He was 12/13. He still doesn’t seem to think there is anything wrong with his behaviour as he hasn’t expressed any remorse or embarrassment.

If true, that is wrong.
I haven't read that part of the book yet.

I don’t think Margaret’s comments at Diana’s funeral are particularly bad to be honest. Clearly there was no love lost. That’s what makes it so odd he returns to her as figure in the book again and again and that bloody biro again and again. I don’t know why you have brought Meghan in to it but glad you can agree Harry has been an unadulterated misogynist towards the other women I have mentioned.

Please do not put words into my mouth

I stated I did not know anything that suggested they deserved the sort of comments he made hence I did not comment. Nowhere have I stated he has been a Unaduterated misogynist and I do not appreciate you suggesting I am in agreement with you on that issue. You have no idea what I feel on the issue as I have made no comment on it.

I am capable of seeing things can be less black and white than both Harry and also you from what I have seen of your posts on this thread appear to be able to see. Hence I bought the fact I was able to see some things were handled poorly into the post. That was my point about bringing in the treatment of Meghan by the media.

I do not think Harry is all in the wrong and I do not think Harry is all in the right.

like most things in life it is somewhere in the middle. Most people are not all good and all bad.

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 12:45

@Eyerollcentral I have started to read the book. Plenty of people on this board commenting who have said they have read nothing of the book at all and do not intend to.

There is absolutely no reason why a man in his late 30s should ever talk this way about another woman .
he could have said she was plain and that’s it, no reason to go into details about her disability.

And for some to down play not just the incident but the woman’s disability is just insane.

@Ohnonevermind If I make a request of a staff member as I was advised to do so, I expect a reply or at a minimum an out of office reply. Not radio silence.

You seem to be suffering from the same misconception as Meghan regarding her position. She wasn’t ‘a staff member’ at the beck and call of anyone. She was the curator of the Queens’s jewels, and as long as the Queen was covered during her absence that’s the extent of her accountability. The fact that the Queen had kindly offered to loan a piece of her jewellery to Meghan does not mean that her personal dresser and jewellery curator now has to account for her schedule to Meghan. Honestly based on what has come straight from Harry it’s not difficult to see how Meghan has acquired a reputation for being rather demanding.

But you continue to quote things as absolute fact when you admit you haven’t read all of the book. 🤷‍♀️

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 13:02

@PinkTonic The Queen had advised Harry and Meghan to contact Angela about the tiara.
You obviously think Angela can ignore messages from anyone except the Queen. If that is her attitude too then I can see how this all came about.
It is toxic though. A culture where you just ignore anyone you see as below you in the hierarchy.

But Meghan isn’t relevant to Harry’s comments in the book? Seems like you are trying to distract from Harry being an arse by throwing her in there

@AppleDumplingWithCustard I quote things where extracts have been shared from the book. I have read this extract.

Whose age?

I am not trying to distract you from anything. I am and have repeatedly on many threads here stated that I do not believe one side is fully right and one is fully wrong.

Personally, I think Meghan is very relevant to how Harry feels and comments. I have yet to decide fully in what way she is relevant ie is it all positive all negative or somewhere in the middle? Are they co-dependent or is one dependent on the other? I am sure it will come out. In my view, it has not fully yet.

I am from your posts aware you are not team Harry.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 17/01/2023 13:10

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 13:07

Whose age?

Harry’s age when he tormented the disabled matron. You said he was eight and were corrected that he was twelve or thirteen.

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 13:12

I was repeating a post above me. And accepted it when I was told I was wrong. Why the big deal?

@babsanderson

we will have to wait for Angela’s side of the story as anyone would be a fool to take Harry’s word on anything

How very true.

given his memory lapses, and his general spitefulness, who can trust a word that comes out of his mouth?

id believe the hard-working woman who achieved everything through her own merits over the spoilt Prince every single day of the week.

Posters like yourself, who hop around threads spreading lies about me sound sinister, stalky and creepy.

I did not say I had a nazi ancestor (though I did mention an anti-nazi one). Are all Germans nazi in your eyes?

So weird.

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 13:28

@notanotheroneagain

what is weird is trying to excuse Harry’s behaviour, like Pat should be grateful she’s got a mention

notanotheroneagain · 17/01/2023 13:37

Wait, now Pat has a diagnosis of scoliosis? Did not read this in the book.

From reading the book, she could or could not have had a 'disability', but she did complain about aches.

She most certainly was employed to look after a bunch of 8-13yr olds. I constantly complain at robust young dc and friends running up the stairs, as I try to keep up. Same as family and friends, but according to MN we have scoliosis. It gets even worse for us, as some complain about chest/foot/ whatever ache - gosh, quite a diagnosis there.

Reading the book, she sounds like she would have a hoot, winding the boys up with 'super strict' persona , while having belly laughs at them being perplexed. She sounds like someone who loved her job. Amused is what she sounds like.

Sounds like if she read this today, she would howl like a hyena with laughs. And you lot sound bitter with stick up your behinds.

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 13:42

@notanotheroneagain

How dare you decide what Pat would feel. Who do you think you are to talk for her ?

You spend your time on here trying to justify Harry’s awful behaviour.

Frankly you sound like the puppet

notanotheroneagain · 17/01/2023 13:44

And you sound like a tabloid puppet or writer for that matter.

Below is the passage from the book. Have you really read it? Note how Harry describes her appearance and that her spine was crooked. That her existence seems miserable. Yep, I bet she’d find that really amusing

“Unlike other matrons, Pat wasn't hot. Pat was cold. Pat was small, mousy, frazzled and her hair fell greasily into her always tired eyes. Pat didn't seem to get much joy out of life."

Harry goes on to describe that she did enjoy catching boys being naughty and was "empathy challenged" when dealing with boys' minor cuts. He says Pat had many crosses to bear.

"The biggest being her knees and spine. The latter was crooked, the former chronically stiff. Walking was hard, stairs were torture. She'd descend backwards, glacially. Often we'd stand on the landing below her, doing antic dances, making faces. Do I need to say who did this with the most enthusiasm?"

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 13:50

@notanotheroneagain

words fail me,
How you think she would be flattered
