Strangest bits in Spare…

i haven’t quite finished it yet but I wanted to read a thread about some of the weirder bits of Spare, and I haven’t seen a thread where people were discussing those without the ‘H&M’ vs the rest of the RF debate. There are definitely some parts which have made me really question why they were included, and I was wondering if anyone else had any similar thoughts.

The inclusion of the imagery of the poppy fields, and how heroin funds the Taliban. Fair enough. We all know that. The rest of the book is one long ode to posh people taking drugs. Does Prince Harry think the cocaine he takes is gently knitted by fairies and delivered to him by unicorns? Do the drugs he takes not contribute to war and terrorism and misery across the rest of the world (and indeed misery and crime in the UK, where he is 5th in line to be monarch!) I found this quite a strange passage and I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts, or am I just over thinking it?

Elizabeth Arden cream. ‘Mummy’s lips’. ‘Todger’. Why? But really, why? Why was this included? Why did anyone think it or commit it to paper, and then publish it? Why did I read it? Why am I typing it here? ARGH.

What he actually thinks the relationship between the royal family and the press should actually be. Only reporting true things? Someone had a photo of him taking cocaine. Dressed as a nazi. Calling his colleague a ‘P*ki’. He wasn’t happy, but it was all true. Should journalists not be allowed to report true things? Or should they only be reporting things he wants them to report? Does Andrew get to choose that too? What about everyone else?

What the actual royal family should look like. This was mind bending. He seems to be perfectly happy with the idea of the monarchy, an institution which is predicated on the idea that they’re inherently superior to the rest of us, and that’s their birth right, but seems to massively struggle to apply that to himself and William. If a monarchy is the best system, why shouldn’t the heir be treated differently to the spare? (I don’t believe it is the best system and wish we could abolish them all but I don’t understand how one can believe one but not the other!).

Anyone else have any interesting thoughts?

Is this the Brent-esque dancing clip?

That's too funny

The Pat episode is really shocking. The Elizabeth Arden cream episode, the lost virginity, the kill number, the drug use - what was he thinking?

It has crossed my mind that someone suggested he put some 'Hard-on' cream on his todger - and he misheard her?

comrad · 20/01/2023 14:32

Legrandetraitor Hope you feel better soon 💐

oakleaffy · 20/01/2023 14:42

It’s been suggested that cocaine on the todger caused damage- Who knows.
Women have had cocaine overdoses by cocaine being introduced vaginally.
( Drug service warning)

Well it’s done one company some good 😂

(although Aldi do a rip off version of 8 hour cream for about £5)

"smell like Mummy's lips"

HaroldsWilly · 20/01/2023 17:07

@Maireas Or 'smell like Harry's...' No. Just no.

Maireas · 20/01/2023 17:11

@HaroldsWilly
Your user name! 🤭

HaroldsWilly · 20/01/2023 17:13

@Maireas I was so pleased when it wasn't taken! How could I not? Grin

comrad · 20/01/2023 17:18

😂

Another thing that stuck out. In spare Harry admits Meghan kept freebies! He tries to normalise it. However in revenge, when the press started to first court Thomas m, and gave him a bottle of champagne. Harry told him off and said it would be seen as bribery etc.

comrad · 20/01/2023 17:22

Revenge also reminded me of how cleverly they used George clooney and Elton John to be their flying monkeys

hoooops · 20/01/2023 17:47

Apropos of nothing, I wonder what Harry and Meghan's team are planning as their next move. Presumably they weren't expecting the book to go down so badly.

Yup. More hypocrisy.

comrad · 20/01/2023 18:09

hoooops

Yes I don’t think it landed how they expected either tbh. Any benefit of the doubt and general goodwill I had for them, has been blown out of the water for me with all his ‘fessing up’ and accidental corroboration of their bad behaviour.

An interesting insight from revenge was their thirst for attention and active courting of the spotlight/fame. Recent events etc. have made that look like an accurate assessment. Even the recent release that they never said they wanted privacy as such. If someone really didn’t like media intrusion and was truly fearful for their safety, I don’t think they’d be releasing so much salacious detail, exploiting their own family goss, selling out to major media outlets. And looking back at how they’ve orchestrated certain events, it all looks like intentional power playing now. Even the cut interview, doesn’t look the journo Stitched them up, but just laid out their obvious hypocrisies and their veiled threats to their family.

Revenge did a good job of laying out the self serving and phoniness of their philanthropy. Never sits well when celebrities do that for cheap pr points. I read a book by marina hyde ages ago about how harmful it is. As it takes the platform away from actual experts and activists who are qualified on the subject etc.

Theunamedcat · 20/01/2023 19:24

What really concerns me is people genuinely believe Harry was bred for spare parts for his brother 🤔 like......it wasn't THAT long ago we had an abdication surely people can't ACTUALLY believe him right? 🤔

Maireas · 20/01/2023 19:26

Who knows, @Theunamedcat .
All the claims get ever more bizarre. I think Harold went down a rabbit hole long ago.

Sunbird24 · 20/01/2023 19:27

Apparently the next Archewell thing on Netflix will be a documentary following some veterans trying to get to the Invictus Games, being shown this summer I think

Ohnonevermind · 20/01/2023 20:01

@Sunbird24

Hopefully they’re ‘hot’ enough for Harry to be interested 🙄

Ohnonevermind · 20/01/2023 20:02

@Maireas

Perhaps they read ‘my sisters Keeper’ at a book club and thought it was a memoir too

Peverellshire · 20/01/2023 21:03

@hoooops me too, I am wondering if they expected or foresaw the book to land as it has? Surely not. What do you think the next move will be?

Will the A listers distance themselves? Will they still have the celeb private jets at their disposal etc? Elton John's villas etc?

MonsoonMadness · 20/01/2023 21:12

i wonder if they give a shit so long as it is making them millions.

comrad · 20/01/2023 21:28

I think they will care. They seem v thin skinned.

hoooops · 21/01/2023 04:04

What do you think the next move will be?

I find them quite hard to predict - I mean they make surprising mistakes I think. Until now I thought it was because their target audience was America and I just didn't understand what they were trying to do, but the book seems to have made them a laughing stock there too. People will see Harry and snigger about penis cream for a long time, it must be hard for them to take. As others have said, I think the A listers have probably already distanced themselves and the RF are doing the right thing by ignoring him and rising above it all.

I suppose the sensible thing would be to stay quiet for a bit, but I'm not sure how that squares with their desire for the spotlight or their need to keep the money coming in.

I just can't imagine how they got this so wrong, the lack of awareness is staggering.

comrad · 20/01/2023 21:28

Yes I agree really. I don’t know why I said that.

Peverellshire · 21/01/2023 04:28

@hoooops surely Moehringer realised how it would land? Presumably, the money will last a long (?) while. In parts it reads like a satire I fear.
